Hits and misses for dc presents?

Ds (4) had a ton of stuff. His favourite was a lollipop and a packet of stickers. Someone please remind me of this next year when I'm spending loads of money. The lollipop and stickers cost £3.50 in total, I should have stopped there!

However hits have been: imaginext dinosaurs, light saber, make your own dinosaur magnets, light up globe, doc mcstuffins dr kit and burping burt game.
Misses have been: toothless fire breathing Dragon (doesnt work properly), furreal daisy (as I knew it would be but he'd been begging for it for months), great big armed forces helicopter (too big and requires both hands to lift so then can't shoot).

We still have some stuff to look at and put together tomorrow.
Is it me or do most toys nowadays seem a little, well, shit? Apart from the imaginext most of what ds has had feels rather flimsy and as though it might break quite easily. Or it just doesn't work properly in the first place.

Most things have been a hit, dd2 loves her Moshi monster mall, moshi movie book and her pokemon figures and case. Dd1 has returned to being glued to the pc Sad but loves the books she got and her pokemon onesie, she also loves her game boy advance which santa had to track down along with a pokemon game.

OLittleTownOfBarflehem · 28/12/2013 13:57

Xbox a big hit, aside from that, his lego brick radio and lego. We didn't get him as much this year as we did previous years.

Only real miss was the watch. he was not impressed, but tried to look as though he was

WeAllHaveWings · 28/12/2013 21:34

Just played the board game survive:escape from Atlantis and it was a big hit with ds(9). he beat me

WeAllHaveWings · 28/12/2013 21:39

dn's 9 and 7 both think I'm a great auntie for getting them harimuka sets and klutz paper fashion books each. SIL says they think they are brilliant and have played with constantly!

ashtrayheart · 28/12/2013 21:49

Dd 16 (has asd) loves her plug in 'aquarium' Miranda DVD and her giant cuddly Minnie Mouse Smile
Ds (14) Microsoft points Hmm
Dd2 (4) barbie castle and work bench
Dd3 (3) bubble tea set and the shared barbie castle with dd2.
Dsd (15) her speakers and dream catcher necklace.

HRMumness · 28/12/2013 22:06

Went a bit overboard for DD1 (17mo) but she played with everything that she got which was: convertible trike which she refused to get off for at least an hour on Christmas morning, pram & doll (TTC#2 right now so hoping it will help with the arrival of a sibling in the future), push along duck on a stick (from DGP), two different shape sorters (one from MIL), an ELC teaset which is supposed to be for 3+ but it seemed fine for her to play with and a small ELC mobile kitchen. I could have possibly plumped for the IKEA kitchen but it is huge and I thought it would be better for next Christmas when she is a bit older and we have a bit more room in the house.

I also got her a big bunch of clothes for the next size up and a few books. Mainly for DH and I because we get sick of reading the same ones over and over

Theimpossiblegirl · 28/12/2013 22:36

Was anyone else a bit disappointed with the Slushy Cups? They only make a very small amount, nothing like the picture. DDs thought they were ok but they didn't live up to the hype all.

crazyafterall · 28/12/2013 22:38

Yes slushy cups are a bit shit

souperb · 28/12/2013 23:07

DD (just turned 4) loved her £2 wand from ELC the most, but has also been busy with a tin of plain greetings cards and stickers. She has ignored everything else, particularly the massive pile of stuff from DMil.

The big hit for DS (7) was wooden magic set from Amazon. DH has enjoyed that one too.

We gave much less this year and this has really worked out much better for us. Just need to win DMil over for next year...

notsomuchroomattheinn · 28/12/2013 23:16

DD,13 IPad mini, Giraffe onsie and wreck this journal.

DS1 ,9 Kindle fire, Dobble, massive Nerf gun and slush cup.

DS2 3 Imaginext castle and Dragon, PlayMobil campervan,

DS3 20 months, Mickey Mouse clubhouse playset, Imaginext castle and an Incy wincy spider book.

No real misses except a remote control Thomas the Tank that doesn't work. Much longed for Hexbugs new version is still in the box. There are a few gifts from family that will be regifted or donated though.

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/12/2013 23:19

DS1's animation kit has been fab. He is now obsessed with film making!

devonshiredumpling · 28/12/2013 23:28

we had fisticuffs over my dd4s trainset ( my ds7 wanted one and did not get as he has two enormous box fuls of his own) still going hammer and tongs at it now Grin

Retropear · 29/12/2013 07:32

Funnys what animation kit was it?

insanityscatching · 29/12/2013 10:14

Ds 18 (ASD) loves his new fleece dressing gown and his AC Milan shirt, not sure about anything else as they were taken to his room and I'm only allowed in to clean when he is at school. Seeing as he chose what he wanted and nothing got handed back then I can assume everything met with approval.
Dd 10 (ASD) loves her Furby and her ipod touch and the new Super Sribblenauts ds game and the cuddly labrador (IKEA) She hasn't bothered with anything else but it's early days and we have toys from three years ago and every year since that she hasn't opened yet so can't say I'm surprised although did expect her to open the the 2DS and Pokemon X game.

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/12/2013 10:51

Retro it is a HUE animation kit and he now has loads of little Lego films. Twas a bargain on Amazon

SeaDevilscanPlay · 29/12/2013 11:09

DS2 loves his guitar and his princess book
DS1 is in love with his laptop and animation kit.
DD (4) has spent every day since Christmas playing with her Sofia Doll and largely ignoring most of her other stuff.

SeaDevilscanPlay · 29/12/2013 13:14

Actually the sparkly jewellry set which cost me £3.00 is a big hit.

I8toys · 29/12/2013 14:45

HITS
DS10 - cheapie remote control helicopter from Amazon/ humungous nerf guns/ Top gear DVD's
DS10 and DS8 - RISK board game - currently playing - they love it
DS8 slowly working his way through lone ranger lego
DS8 - playstation wonder book of spells
DS8 - chess set

No real misses although loads still unopened - trash pack sewer dump/tetris bop it/uno blast/monopoly empire - we have all holidays to get through though!

FunnysInLaJardin - I have that HUE animation set on my amazon wishlist - wasn't sure whether to get it but I just might now!

D0oinMeCleanin · 29/12/2013 14:54

Hits: dd1's tablet. No idea about the rest of her stuff, she barely glanced at it once she spotted the tablet. Dd2's own Minecraft login and her Moshi Monsters.

Misses: dd2's camera, which she begged for. She's only ever seen "really real cameras" never used them and so has no idea what to do with it. I'm sure once I sit her down and teach her how to use it she will love it.

MadeOfStarDust · 29/12/2013 17:16

Carcasonne board game - played 12 - TWELVE - times since Christmas morning.... Pick up sticks and blow football - played in between! Westie Onesies - need a wash! Book tokens - spent this morning looking through the Waterstones' website for books to buy when we head off to town next week....

not so good - Crayola fashion creations thing - RUBBISH, Despicable Me 2 Operation - way too sensitive..

Anja1Cam · 29/12/2013 21:28

No real misses. 2 DDs 6 and 9:

Hits:
Junior Monopoly (old Fairground edition, secondhand bargain), played several times every day since unpacking.
The LEGO Ideas Book (another BookPeople bargain) has really inspired them - we have loads of mixed (mixed vintages too), mostly basic lego and it's all being turned into the most amazing creations.

CD player/boombox for older DD was a success too - fulfilling a wish she didn't know she had!

MissLurkalot · 29/12/2013 23:16

itsonlysubterfuge · 30/12/2013 10:33

DD has enjoyed all her presents, she still has some on the couch that she hasn't opened yet Confused. However the biggest hits so far have definitely been her Kidkraft Kitchen which I bought way too much play food for and her IKEA tent, which we filled with play balls. She likes having her own little private area.
