Hits and misses for dc presents?

Ds (4) had a ton of stuff. His favourite was a lollipop and a packet of stickers. Someone please remind me of this next year when I'm spending loads of money. The lollipop and stickers cost £3.50 in total, I should have stopped there!

However hits have been: imaginext dinosaurs, light saber, make your own dinosaur magnets, light up globe, doc mcstuffins dr kit and burping burt game.
Misses have been: toothless fire breathing Dragon (doesnt work properly), furreal daisy (as I knew it would be but he'd been begging for it for months), great big armed forces helicopter (too big and requires both hands to lift so then can't shoot).

We still have some stuff to look at and put together tomorrow.
Is it me or do most toys nowadays seem a little, well, shit? Apart from the imaginext most of what ds has had feels rather flimsy and as though it might break quite easily. Or it just doesn't work properly in the first place.

All hits here too. DS2 built his Lego ninjago dragon yesterday morning and has been playing with it loads. DH and DS2 built his playmobil dinosaurs while I cooked lunch yesterday and we've had all manner of adventures and volcanic eruptions ever since. This morning DS1 helped DS2 to combine the dinosaurs playmobil with his dragon playmobil castles and they had a great time playing for hours.

This afternoon I've been helping DS1 build his Lego millennium falcon. We're half way through and have decided to take a break.

DH loves his anime blurays. He started watching code geass last night. He likes his Tetris lamp, but not as much as DS2 does. DS2 lives building with the tetrinos and has persuaded his dad to let him have it as a night light tonight. This will end in tears, however, as he'll keep playing with it instead of going to sleep.

Biggest hits for DD (9): knitting needles (hand-me-downs - the same ones my grandma taught me to knit with) and wool, hideous gold glittery shoes with a tiny heel.

Biggest hits for DS (7): Star Wars lego X-wing fighter, operation (which we actually bought for DD)

bringonyourwreckingball · 26/12/2013 16:58

Both loved their stocking tat - finger lights, light up dolphin and reindeer/penguin hats from primark (not taken off all day and dd1 wanted to sleep in hers). Dd1 loves her onesie and dd2 is besotted with her elc microphone and playmobil playground.

Uno card game was a huge hit with the whole family.

Only miss was a necklace I bought for dd2 as I'd bought one for dd1. I just don't think she's ready for proper jewellery yet. I'm not sure dd2 is that bothered about her lego either.

curiousgeorgie · 26/12/2013 17:10

Stocking was a complete miss with DD1 (3), even though I filled it with lovely things and no real tat, she didn't want to open it at all!

Hits with her were her sylvanian houses, nursery, cafe and campervan that she played with all day long, and also her dressing up clothes.

DD2 (6 months) loved her jumperoo!! She's usually only happy in my arms but she sat and jumped in it for literally hours!!! Grin

Biggest hit of them all was Book of Mormon tickets for my parents and siblings though! Wink

Jinty64 · 26/12/2013 17:18

The biggest hit was a small r.c. Helicopter bought, last minute, from Amazon because he asked Santa for one (unexpectedly). He has played with it non stop. It out did his HUDL which he also likes.

Frozenatchristmas · 26/12/2013 17:19

Ds is 5. Playmobil - lion knights castle and pirate ship are not really going down well at the moment. Paints and Mr Men books are as well as hex bugs.

Bloody playmobil cost a fortune as well.

Tailtwister · 26/12/2013 17:36

DS1 (5)- Star Wars Lego, a great hit. He's spent the past 2 days making it all. He's also very excited about a castle building kit where you have to cast your own bricks. We will start on that tomorrow.

DS2 (3)- biggest hit was a Knights costume with foam sword/shield. He also got a Millennium Falcon ship which he's not too fussed about so far.

We really held back on tonnes of presents this year and family sent mostly money instead which will go towards stuff they need throughout the year. DS2 is still desperate for the Lego Death Star and is intent on saving for it. Hopefully he'll have enough after his birthday in Feb.

FestiveYoni · 26/12/2013 17:55

sometimes they take a long time to come round to things, we got a vtec camera last year it wasnt looked at till april and then constantly played with until atumn, then sporadically played with. lots of tings similar, they cant play with everything at once on one day....

Galaxymum · 26/12/2013 19:06

DD (7) big hit is Littlest Pet Shop - the pet shop. Absolute bargain at £12.50 from Argos. Compared to a lot of other toys, they are very solid, lots of compartments to put her collection and came with a different rare Penny Ling. So she was happy.

We made Glitsy Globes today - surprisingly easy compared to other children's craft toys. Also she loves her Littlest Pet Shop calendar which I got off Ebay for £2.99

armani · 26/12/2013 19:11

biggest hits were ds' lego superheros sets and imaginext batcave plus figures. the dds loved ttheir dolls and prams and the slushy cups!

dont really have any misses although the playmobil remains unopened im sue they will love it when they open it.

overall we have had an amazing christmas Smile

SuckItAndSee · 26/12/2013 19:13

biggest hit was Baby Annabell
bought for dd1 (nearly 7, but it's what she wanted), coveted and kidnapped at every opportunity by dd2 (3)

runners up are these horrible plastic pony hair clips with a streak of coloured acrylic hair attached. they are so awful, but I knew they'd love them.

madmomma · 26/12/2013 19:28

The teenager was delighted with her celtic sheepskin boots and new look haul. Also loved her hollister perfume & hoody. The little boy loved his bow and arrow from the newsagent (£1.50) but sadly it's now broken. I'll replace it tomorrow. The 2 yr old couldn't have cared less about the presents really. She's all about the chocolate.

legoplayingmumsunite · 26/12/2013 19:38

DD1 (6) loves the paint by numbers Mum got her and her ukelele and is learning some chords already. DH spent last night practicing because it's more different from the guitar than he expected. Doh!

DD2 (4) played with lego yesterday and her magnet set today.

DS (1) loves the tin whistle DD2 got. Plus his pull back toys but we knew they would be a hit.

EssentialCoffee · 26/12/2013 19:42

DS (2) has had a lot of fun with his toy kitchen from ELC and a wooden double decker bus from Toys R Us.

Fantail · 26/12/2013 19:52

DD 2.9 currently making noise composing original music on guitar (ukulele). Was all she asked for and it hasn't really left her lap.

Other hit was a back pack and also a toy phone.

Misses were the Furreal cat that my sister gave her.

We haven't broken out the play doh toys or matching pairs game.

FandangoLaLaLaLaLaLaLaaaa · 26/12/2013 20:20

Everything was a hit with DS but he's only 1. He has a ride on zebra, lots of cars and the play tunnel from ikea, which he loves!

I spent pretty much nothing though and just bought stocking filler type things (maracas, bath toys, toy phone) as DP's family have gone mental and tried to outdo each other with bigger and bigger gifts. DBiL and partner bought 3 of the most enormous noisy toys plus a musical instrument set Hmm We gave them money when their DS was 1 to put towards a car seat bastards.

DS was 1 on the 16th dec and I only spent £30 across the 2 days. I think we'll buy a swing or slide in summer instead as it's a long wait now until he gets more presents.

working9while5 · 26/12/2013 20:37

Got the imaginary castle as twitch present for ds1... big big hit!
Learning resources design and drill also fab and Dh and he were like little old men at it for hours today.
No really big misses for ds1... he did decide a Spiderman book was for his 18 month old brother but it was a five quid stocking filler so no harm.

Haba ball track (sound starter) for ds2 a bit of a miss... just not bothered.
Enjoyed Haba Sakrada and Sevila blocks but soft toy Grover from Sesame Street was a predictable no. 1, he is a nut for soft toys anyway and we read a book called Goodnight Little Grover as part of night time routine.

lecce · 26/12/2013 20:45

Hits for ds1 (7) include Horrible Histories battle packs, annual and Top Trumps. He also loves his deer stalker hat and the Imaginext Space Shuttle. No real misses but we haven't yet had the weather to use the telescope and he hasn't had a chance to look properly at all the books he's got - though he is currently reading the Encyclopedia of Space in bed.

Ds2 (4) I'm not so sure about. I know the craft sets and books will be well used over the year, but there has been no 'wow' toy for him really. He wore the coveted plastic pink flip-flops all day yesterday, but hasn't looked at them today and hasn't shown much interest in any of the small world toys he got - princesses and SF. He did love the tube of all pink Smarties and the HK hot chocolate though.

nicky2512 · 26/12/2013 20:54

Happy with it all but biggest hits were DD - (11) kindle and Crayola hot heels. DS (8) hot wires electronics kit. I love it too.

Onelittlebugbear · 26/12/2013 20:59

I liked the look of the hot wires set but ds is only 4. Would he manage it for his 5th birthday maybe? What do you think minimum age is?

missnevermind · 26/12/2013 21:16

Total miss here was a present from a friend to 4 yo DS.
Has been sat under the tree a few days say has been poked and prodded a lot. Was the first one he wanted to open when he got up.

Was a soft toy from Ikea. The big bad wolf with granny hanging out of its mouth. Very traumatic start to the day.

StyleOverSubstance · 26/12/2013 21:19

Glad to see that Lego is a popular toy again, absolutely loved it as a child and would have happily had just Lego and books as was never really interested in dolls/prams etc.

CalamitouslyWrong · 26/12/2013 21:44

Ds2 (4) loves Lego. He's actually brilliant at following the instructions (and then creating his own stuff when it inevitably falls apart). He got a ninjago golden dragon for Christmas and built it with DH relegated to brick finding. My aunt then utterly refused to believe that he built it himself for some reason.

We spent the afternoon today building DS1's (13) millennium falcon. It seems pretty sturdy for playing with. We're only half way through at this point though. I was relegated to brick organising and finding.

BobCrotchstitch · 26/12/2013 21:59

All a massive hit here for DS(9) :)
Obviously the iPad was huge but he also received the much coveted keyboard he was after (we told him it was too expensive) I knew he would use it a lot but fully expected it to be a bit of a Hmm present in the face of an iPad.

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 26/12/2013 22:01

dd, 2, loved the only thing we got for her- happyland trainset Grin
she also loved a tiny baby doll from her aunt and all of our chocolates Hmm)
most of the rest was clothes.
