Hits and misses for dc presents?

Ds (4) had a ton of stuff. His favourite was a lollipop and a packet of stickers. Someone please remind me of this next year when I'm spending loads of money. The lollipop and stickers cost £3.50 in total, I should have stopped there!

However hits have been: imaginext dinosaurs, light saber, make your own dinosaur magnets, light up globe, doc mcstuffins dr kit and burping burt game.
Misses have been: toothless fire breathing Dragon (doesnt work properly), furreal daisy (as I knew it would be but he'd been begging for it for months), great big armed forces helicopter (too big and requires both hands to lift so then can't shoot).

We still have some stuff to look at and put together tomorrow.
Is it me or do most toys nowadays seem a little, well, shit? Apart from the imaginext most of what ds has had feels rather flimsy and as though it might break quite easily. Or it just doesn't work properly in the first place.

Hits here have been a penny board for DD and new football boots for DS. she has also loved new sylannian family stuff and DS also loved his kiddy zoom camera (we are a bit behind the times!).

They were their main presents and the rest was bits and bobs, which haven't seen the light of day yet but I know they will love. We always get them a co-operative board game and its always been the biggest hit:)

god that glass of wine has gone straight to my head!

FishfingersAreOK · 27/12/2013 16:58

Ooooo - my chance to have a big Xmas Hmm at last! My DSis bought my 5 and 7yo a commemorative £20 coin. Lovely idea I suppose as a bit of a memory. And yes it may well increase in value ? Who knows. But Dsis prides her self on her perfect present buying - WTAF was she thinking. Have not told her her beloved Niece and Nephew (she adores them) were singularly disinterested.

Biggest hits - DS -(5yo) anything lego/playmobile related. DD (7yo) anything soft, cuddly and cute Grin ignoring how many bloody soft toys she has already - it is Christmas after all

applecrumbleandcream · 27/12/2013 18:35

My dd (6) loves her Instax Mini 8, Barbie cruise ship and the spinning fairy that flies. Lots of stuff still not been looked at properly yet. Also loves the headphones for my tablet she uses.

herecomesthsun · 27/12/2013 18:35

Hotwires set - 5 year old here loved it and had much fun today listening to the radio he'd made (with dad's help)

Onelittlebugbear · 27/12/2013 18:39

Ooooh thank you, maybe can get it for his birthday next year then. I'd help him, he's quite interested in that sort of thing so I think he'd enjoy it.

Dd 7yo she pretty much loved everything!!

Esp roller skates, she has been out on them loads and seems to have got the hang of them really quickly.

Loved playmobil camper van, horse and cart. Got some sullvainian family stuff which she has been slightly meh about tbh.

Also loved her lego although my mum got her this Dr Who set which isn't actual lego and was bloody impossible to put together!!

In her stocking she got a venus fly trap growing kit which she was really excited about and also a spud gun which she loves me not so much Grin

Marcelinewhyareyousomean · 27/12/2013 19:38

We really cut back this year. Ds 7 was very happy with his haul so we'll do the same next year.

Biggest hits were:

Hexbug fish in a bowl (in the bath with glow sticks)
yu GI oh cards (I think it's rubbish)
rubix cube
and no 1 was a £1 minecraft annual.

Not played with yet but was delighted with include Thor hammer and Captain America shield

Marcelinewhyareyousomean · 27/12/2013 19:41

If anyone has a pleased 11 year old girl, I'd love to hear about hits please. We have bought one direction perfume and animal nail transfers for Christmas. Her birthday is tomorrow Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

olibeansmummy · 27/12/2013 19:57

Most things were hits but the 2 misses are the playdough ice cream factory and the playmobil submarine as the motor has just stopped working after 1 use Angry I'm now officially done with shitty playmobil!

crazyafterall · 27/12/2013 20:05

Agree colour me creepy is shit but dd loves it.

Barbie mega blocks Lego set was fab. As was monopoly Moshi.

Gross magic is shit and doesn't really work. Boom boom balloon is a one trick wonder. Dd was totally uninterested in this fab hex bug thing I got her. I love it though!

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 27/12/2013 21:42

Marcelinewhyareyousomean
We had a massive hit with gig tickets to our 11yr olds favourite band & also a rucksack that has speakers & you plug a phone, MP3 player, iPod etc into it & it becomes sort of a backpack boom box. Though our DDs taste will differ from yours as she hates 1D, so her bag choice of a zombie cat is probably not suitable, there were lots of other designs too

Marcelinewhyareyousomean · 27/12/2013 22:09

Zombie cat sounds great, she has eclectic taste. Half think that 1D is because her friends like it. I'd have pegged her as a natural rock chick.

BornToFolk · 27/12/2013 22:14

DS (6) loved his Lego football set, and Hexbugs (both full size and Nano). He also been thrilled with a set of collectable cards (like Top Trumps) that were inside his Dinosaur Cove books.

No real misses have been identified so far but the Crazy Soap in his stocking was a bit shit. It's basically shaving foam and you can't mould it at all.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 27/12/2013 22:21

Hits: on the day for fun a hexbug nano, and a secret diary set with pen and stickers...a soft and gorgeous bambi cushion from H and M was a huge hit...and a babrie with changing skirt ( however I know that barbie will be discarded now after that one days play....)other hits were the find the meerkat books, meerkat mischeif puzzle books...globe.

The surprise miss...which I am pleased about is the innotab thing...i thougt she would be glued to it but seems not....I am pleased about this as was worried she would ditch it for her creative toys.

however i know my dd comes to things over time, so i am sure everything bar barbie will get a play ....

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 27/12/2013 22:22

(dd6)

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 27/12/2013 22:45

marcel in which case she will love it - Mine is very much the mini rock chick

I should have also mentioned - my DD hit town today to spend money from her GF - along with a couple of CDs - she bought make up & toiletry sets in the sale in Boots, some very good deals & from my POV nothing too heavy & she knows its dress up or parties only, but she loves the idea if just owning real make up :)

TheNightIsDark · 27/12/2013 22:47

Oh no is colour me creepy really shit? We've got DSD it but she won't be here until New Year's Day.

youaremychocolatecake · 27/12/2013 22:53

My son has spent 3 days playing with a cardboard box. Sigh.

nicky2512 · 27/12/2013 22:54

Sorry, just noticed your question. The projects in it start easy and get harder. DS is 8 and so far has done about the first 15 on his own. He would be quite handy though - v good at following lego instructions. A 5 year old would probably be able to do with help if they were interested in that sort of thing. It is much better than I expected. Was a twitch buy, he had never seen it before. Keep an eye on amazon, price seems to go up and down quite a bit.

twolittledarlings · 28/12/2013 00:11

My two girl dd11 on Xmas eve and dd9 on the 19th dec

We're pleased with the following

Loads of earrings from claires -24 pairs each
Little book of earring books massive hit well recommended
Ticket to tide Europe massive hit played 5 games in a row and have played every day since also recommended
Twister
Adult massive beanbag - big hit
Smart tv each - big hit
Nail klutz book - love these
Loads of Gorjuss stuff - handbag, stationery, pencil tins, books, memo block, calendar, notebooks, woven pouches, etc -first time buying this theme but they seem to like this
Knitting bag with children's book and wool etc - have already started to knit
Loads of reading books sets each
Glitter tattoos
One direction perfume and top trumps
Hollister hoody and body mist
4 boxes of jigsaws love these
CDs Lawson, 1d and little minx and now 86
Owl cushion
Smencils
Manicure set and compact mirror
Hobbit and Percy Jackson collection books and DVDs
Slush cups - not used yet but they both love slush puppies
Owl handbag, zippy bag and zippy pencil cases
And loads more

My younger daughter has exactly same stuff other than the DVD and different book but she also loved the Miranda new DVD and maracas set, also the finger string book learning to do cats candle etc, crochet art, and giant flower craft set.

All were bought in mind and they in my opinion are all very useful and not plastic tat as they are getting older so more teenager stuff

Alonglongway · 28/12/2013 03:08

Wii u big hit with DDs 16 and 13.

Beyond that, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation DVDs, wax pastels and serious colouring books, a personalised poster for DD1.

TheZeeTeam · 28/12/2013 03:11

Drumkit and new guitar amp were HUGE hit with eldest two DCs. Probably not the neighours though. DC3 loved their collection of wooly hats the best (!) and DC4 has mostly ignored the pile of Ninjago lego and played with Shave the Sheep for the last 2 days.
