Hi

Those of you who do Elf on the Shelf - where did you get your elf from please? Links would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well I have decided how our elf "Tinky" shall arrive.
The boys will be writing their letters to Santa on the 30th, and we shall despatch them to the North Pole via helium balloon. Then the following morning, Tinky shall arrive with the advent calendars, and a letter from Santa.
I have written the letter on the computer, explaining that Tinky is there to keep an eye on them, and have used lots of clip art images in place of words, so that my eldest (2.6) can "read" it himself.

housemum · 21/11/2011 11:54

Lovely idea Leilandri! (liking the helium balloon message idea too). I keep looking at Dobby and having evil thoughts, like finding him in the morning flat out with a whisky bottle, or with a trail of white powder (I blame watching too much Russell Howard - anyone remember the naught Henry hoovers?)

Dobby hasn't played any tricks yet, but he will! At the moment the girls just love finding him. I really want to put my 8 year old straight, worried she'll be teased at school, but the other part of me loves her innocence. She stares very hard at his face, she says, "I know he's real, but his face looks like plastic. But he comes alive at night? I wish I could touch him."

I thought I had resisted the urge to get an EOTS despite reading this thread, but I was at a garden centre today and saw a big display of them, so Elvin the Elf is now residing with us. I just couldn't resist!

DH looked at me like I should be in a home when I told him it cost £25, he just doesn't grasp the cost per use argument.

NoHunIntended · 21/11/2011 23:22

Leilandri, ooh, am so borrowing the helium balloon idea!

Biscuit, Elvin obviously threw a spell at you! They are crafty like that.

Ours is arriving via parachute...into the front garden, so when DS opens the blinds he will see it

sunnyday123 · 22/11/2011 12:57

elf arrived this morning - very cute and i'm no very excited for dec 1st!

Leilandri · 23/11/2011 21:55

Our elf arrived today, I got our postman trying to stuff him through the letterbox :(
He is soooo cute, and has had a name change already to "Kringle" as DS1 has watched a Christmas movie all about how Santa came to be Santa, and it starts with a baby being left with a group of elves, the Kringles who call him Kris, and so it begins!
I have printed off his passport, letter and report card, and have decorated a box for him to be sitting in on Dec 1st, he will be surrounded by milkyway magic stars for a yummy treat!
I now can't wait for Dec 1st, and after a really rather shite year so far, I am really looking forward to finishing 2011 with some fun and laughter.

Has this been posted yet?

Oops, forgot to move Dobby last night (am now setting a cryptic reminder on my phone for 10pm daily!).

Luckily Hmm DD2 was a pain last night when DD1 was looking after her, answering back, so when she said Dobby hadn't moved, I said maybe he'd been nice and given her a chance to change her ways, told her he looked a bit upset (yep, she believed it) and that she'd better not do that again as if he stays home FC won't get to hear of the good things she's done.

bananamam · 24/11/2011 16:06

We should set up a post Christmas "elf help" groupGrin

BiscuitNibbler · 24/11/2011 16:08

I want the Elf to stay all year. DD is now doing anything I ask because Elvin Elf is watching. He is my new best friend!

Our EOTS book magically arrived today (it appeared to have been magically posted long before the postman came) everyone was very excited as we read the story over breakfast!

DSs now very excited that we may have an actual elf sent to us this year, we're looking after a Grandmother clock for a friend (long story) and they are convinced this is where the elf will appear.

Can't wait for tomorrow, let the elfcapades begin Grin

ujjayi · 26/11/2011 09:06

Someone gave one of these to my DC last year. I refused to use it as I thought it was just plain creepy looking. Are your DCs really into them? We are having issues with a tantrumming and refusenik 7 year old at the moment so perhaps I need to rethink?

Haribojoe · 27/11/2011 20:30

The elf has arrived!

Took the kids ages to see it sitting on the clock with the Christmas tree chocolates it had kindly brought.

Mass hysteria/excitement when he was discovered.

Anytime someone mentioned the elf watching them they literally jumped Grin

Even caught DS2 (4) waving at the elf !

Brilliant start to lots of Christmas fun Smile

LordOfTheFlies · 27/11/2011 20:39

I got my Hannibal from the A Team doll (liam neeson ) out of the box and wrestled the guns off him.
He looks a bit camp as his hands are sort of on his hips.
Plan is (and 'I love it when a plan comes together') to sew him into a green and red felt elfy outfit with elfy boots and a hat (glued on) with a bell on the end.

Mine will be festive, dirt cheap (£5 for doll £1-90 for felt) and unique.

HoHoHoFunIntended · 27/11/2011 23:59

Loving the parachuting elf, bananamum! Did you take photos?

How very cute, Haribojoe! Cute waving!

LotF, will you take photos so we can see your A-Team elf please? Sounds cool!

Four weeks til Christmas!

hotmamalovespavlova · 28/11/2011 08:53

hotmama, crikey! Those children seem quite old for that behaviour, or am I being harsh?

What have you bought, shiney?

pigleychez · 28/11/2011 12:24

How on earth did the parents manage to keep straight faces! Poor little things. The power of an Elf!

WinterIsComing · 28/11/2011 12:32

You bought the pyjamas didn't you shiney? And the Pottery Barn plates and paid hundreds to get it all imported Wink

We're off to Santa's grotto on Wednesday. I'm thinking I might be able to wrap up the elf / book and sneak it to Santa to give DS - since my DD has put him right off by playing that creepy Youtube Elf on the Shelf song.

HoHoHoFunIntended · 28/11/2011 14:30

Just bought DS an elf outfit. I am so excited!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 28/11/2011 16:04

I finally finished my Elf! Grin Pictures on profile.

I couldn't bring myself to pay for the whole package, so I'm afraid DS1 is getting a homemade Elf and a story that I will, um, make up as I go along. I've already told him that Father Christmas asked me to make an Elf and that only once we've given the Elf a special name, said it three times and listened for the sound of a tiny bell ringing (that'll be DH, behind his back. He's a bit Hmm about it), will the Elf get his Christmas Magic and come to life at night. Not sure DS1 (3.9) buys it but hey. It was fun making the Elf. Grin

He's about 4 1/2" high, and was made with a wooden bendy doll that you can buy naked and blank to customise. He was great fun to make and clothe, and I ended up forking out for some acryllics to paint his face, so I might as well have bought the official one... Hmm

Not sure when we're getting started, but maybe end of first week in December.
