Hi

Those of you who do Elf on the Shelf - where did you get your elf from please? Links would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Am I the only one who doesn't like the look of the official elf? I got a totally different one....the other one would give dd and DS nightmares! (and me)Blush

NoHunIntended · 17/11/2011 16:59

Crikey, pigley, glad it was only a nearly and not a did!

bananamam, well, me, which is why I started the thread to see what alternatives people have found. Though I have heard the official EOTS actually is much nicer in RL than he looks in the photos.

Great fairy site, housemum.

Hi, I am currently selling some really sweet knitted elves. They were originally done as a Seven dwarves set but they look perfect for the part as a santa helper!

I am a regular ebayer and have good feedback. My ebay user id is samels001 and I have attached a link for one of the elves.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250930498537?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Happy to answer any questions through the ebay page.

housemum · 17/11/2011 17:21

I must admit I prefer other elves, but wanted the story & the elf comes with it. I guess we'll get used to him :)

ezzie21 · 17/11/2011 17:41

our elf was found in Velindre hospital gift shop, its a WVS shop so might be in other hospitals?

£9.99, about 12"+ tall

he will be on the door step 1 dec in a box for dd to find Smile

TaperJeanGirl · 17/11/2011 20:14

I bought a plain fabric wired-limbed doll off ebay for about £4 and have "elfed him up" he still looks like a serial killer though, and the thought of him coming to life at night gives me the creeps Grin

bananamam · 18/11/2011 09:04

We got the gund peppermint elf...he is rather small and cute.....roll on first of dec!! He is bringing advent calanders and small Christmas trees for each of the children!!...(this is in a bid to tide me over so I don't put the house decs up to early this year Blush)

Erdem · 18/11/2011 20:11

Not one to add to the hype on this..
But I just managed to get EOTS on Barnes & Noble bn.com. Its 43 USD including shipping to Ireland.

Dobby arrived from Elf Bazaar this morning, there was a knock and the door and he was there with his book Wink

housemum · 19/11/2011 12:50

if you are still desperate for a "genuine" EOTS, looks like PotteryBarnKids.com in the US still has some - I didn't fully checkout, but my UK order page showed £33 inc shipping (half price shipping at the moment) - cheaper than some on eBay if you need one :) (don't know how long shipping is but have ordered books from US before and they've been fairly quick)

pigleychez · 19/11/2011 13:11

Our elf arrived this morning too :)

looks lovely sitting cheekily in his little box!

Looking forward to introducing him to the girls. Decided to wait till the decs go up on the 3rd Dec. He will arrive in the morning then after breakfast we will start putting the decs up, then its the start of christmas and the house will look all festive! Plus being the weekend means we will have more time to leisurely sit and read the book together in the morning instead of rushing about getting ready for the pre-school run.

sunnyday123 · 19/11/2011 14:35

just orderd the gun peppermint ones today and stupidly excited!!!! I've even collated the full list of 24 ideas i'm going to do!!! DH thinks i'm mad, as do some friends but i just love christmas!

bananamam · 19/11/2011 14:46

I can't wait until 1st dec!! The gund elf is small but I think that will help him get into all sorts of mischief Grin

Knackeredmother · 19/11/2011 15:07

I love this idea! However I am a cheap skate and we have one of Santas helpers (large blue Santa like toy fiver from Primark).
He was drooped from Santas sleigh last night and was to be found in the garden surrounded by fake snow and glitter ( looking in need of resuscitation from the fall!)
I couldn't wait till December for the chance to improve dc's behaviour. They love him, have named him Jo, and are behaving impeccably 'so Jo doesn't tell Santa!'
Great idea whoever first posted!

sunnyday123 · 19/11/2011 15:55

bananaman are you using both elves then -same antics? ive ordered the same pack of 2 (gund elf)- (one each for dds) - are you staging them both doing the same thing or just using one?

NoHunIntended · 19/11/2011 16:06

Love Jo's arrival, Knackeredmother! :)

sunny, if I had two, I'd have them do some antics together, but othertimes have them doing different things or hiding in separate places for your DDs to find.

bananamam · 19/11/2011 16:28

sunny we only bought one....so yep! Only using one Grin

vamosbebe · 19/11/2011 19:39

When I was growing up, we had the tradition of Black Pete (apparently German). He's a robin who has a book and a pencil under his wing ready to write down notes on naughty children to pass on to Santa. Of course, you see a liot of robins during November/December, so it always worked for my sister and I - be on your best behaviour as Black Pete's about!
And FREE :D

roundabout1 · 19/11/2011 21:09

I have bought the Gund small Peppermint elves - boy & girl for my dd's. They are so cute, really sweet looking unlike some of them. I would be a bit scared of the genuine EOTS watching me! I am going to have them doing antics together I think. Dd2 is too young really being 17 months but I thought they could do stuff together this year & then perhaps next year get up to high jinx on their own. Still trying to decide how they are going to arrive, I'm thinking they will come on dec 1st, bought a small cuddly reindeer from a charity shop & thought it could be a magic reindeer that brings them & then stays with them til it's time to fly back?? Also have got a reindeer mini hot water bottle that I've lost the water bottle for & the dc's have never seen. Thought I could stuff the elves inside that & leave it for them. Don;t know which sounds the least credible really!!!

Leilandri · 19/11/2011 22:14

Hi :)

Can I join you all? I have been reading this post with great interest for the past few days, and have just ordered this elf: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370561138700?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

Sooo excited! My boys are 30mnths and 4 mnths, so the whole idea is still abit beyond them, but my eldest is so excited about Santa that I didn't want to miss out on this opportunity. Grin I don't think that our elf will be getting up to too much this year, as I don't want to scare the boys, maybe just a little curtain swinging, and tree climbing, but I am actually writing down everyone's ideas for the years to come Blush

roundabout1 · 19/11/2011 22:21

Oh Leilandri you won't be disappointed the elfs are so cute. I've got two so maybe biased but i think the are one of the nicest I've seen.

housemum · 19/11/2011 22:39

Can't believe DD2 is going along with the story (she's 8). There was a knock on the door Wink and he was there in the gift box. I thought he would have been more effective just sat on a flowerpot with the book, but I know I'm crap at remembering to hide stuff, and I didn't want to throw the box away! Maybe I can go through a ritual of happening to leave the box out and he's sat back in it on Christmas Eve morning, then next day it's empty as he's flown back home. Or that could backfire spectacularly with tears on Christmas Day...
