So my little girl went for a routine eye check her first one as she's never had one she's 7. Never had any problems with her eyes never complained is a great reader far and close.
They have said she's a +2.00 on both eyes and would need to start wearing glasses for most of her tasks as the more she wears the better. I'm in complete shock and heartbroken. I know there is bigger things going on in the world but I'm just so shocked and upset. Does anyone else's child have the same strength ones and have often for they wear? I just think what if they have mad a mistake ... I know they haven't in just shocked tbh and my little girl is heartbroken she doesn't want glasses. I was in shock yesterday I didn't even get to ask any questions

As a pp said, it's a borderline prescription at her age. If her vision is normal and she isn't struggling at school or getting headaches then she doesn't necessarily need them. However, she will need them at some point in her life as her focussing power decreases with age. However, if her vision is below normal without them on them she should wear them. Don't worry about feeling upset, it's normal, many parents feel the same, but it passes.

My parents were told at 4 my vision is severe enough for me to never drive. 30 years later that's still the case. I still as I don't have a proper diagnosis know what the future holds in terms of my vision.

Get a grip

My son is 4 and just had his eyes tested they gave him a +2.25 prescription and the only picture he couldn’t see was a fish
he’s never complained about his eyes and the only reason we went was to rule out that he didn’t need them as he’s been having headaches. So we were shocked when they said he does. He’s also been told he needs to visit the eye hospital so now I am really worried !

@Ajs1111 it's very common to be under hospital orthoptist care if they need glasses as a child. My dd was under their care from 18 months until about age 7 or 8 at which point she was discharged to a high street optician.

+2.25 means he is long sighted so will find it more difficult to focus on close tasks like reading/writing

My ds got glasses at a similar age but was told he could wear them whenever he felt he needed them.
He often chooses to wear them all the time because he likes them.
No negative comments because in the next couple of years a good handful of children in his class also got glasses.

Honestly op now is not the time for heartbroken, shocked, upset, brave face.
This is something quite small and maybe a bit of a life lesson in resilience for you and dd?
