Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Has anyone's DC got a blood shot eye? DD1 has a small red patch near her iris, looks more bloodshot than spot like.

wem · 16/07/2012 16:21

It sounds so horrible for some of your dc :( I've just spoken to my mum who thinks it may have been a false alarm. At what point could I say it's definitely not chicken pox if these spots hang around? Should they become pus-y pretty quickly?

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 16:25

I would say by now you would know wem.

plopper might be worth just checking with NHS 24 or GP surgery if still open. Any other possible reason for the bloodshot eye? Hope it is nothing x

mum2twoloudbabies · 16/07/2012 16:47

Nope no bloodshot red eye here. Has your dc been rubbing eyes much due to the pox? When ds was a few months old he got what looked like a bloodspot on his eye due to a lot of rubbing (he has allergies and they were undiagnosed at that point so lots of rubbing and scratching)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/07/2012 16:55

Hi all!
Can I hop on? Ds (3) is on day 4 and covered! 202 spots this morning!!! Shock
Anyone got any ideas to get the scabby spots to heal quickly without scarring?
His poor little face and body are jut one big red scabby mess! :(

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 17:44

Welcome sleepytime Sudocream dries them out nicely, but it seems there is no one favoured treatment. mavis is pretty good on the healing stuff- her earlier post may give you some tips. ViralSoothe is meant to be fab, but I am not overly impressed with its itch control, but use it once scabbed so will let you know how it goes.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 16/07/2012 18:33

Hi Sleepytime - porridge oat and bicarb baths have helped with itching here. We have also being giving piriton and eronax. We are on day 4 too.
Good luck everyone.
Hope DD eye is ok plopper

Miss Mavis - we had a nice bath and then he just Crüe like he was terrified of me putting the virasoothe on him. We've done from dotting it into single spots to just slathering it everywhere! :( I ended up crying too as the marks are so big and red and the scabs look really deep so I'm worrying about scars. It's mostly all over his face too!

I'm doing bicarb and oat baths so that's something. I'm off back up thread to take notes on Mavis' treatment regime! :)

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 20:02

Tears here from me too. It is horrid, but thankfully they are unlikely to remember it. DD1 was the same age, and now just turned 6 and she has no recollection. She had it worse than her sister.

ViraSoothe seems to be stinging here too. Run out of Sudocream. Grr!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/07/2012 20:06

Right where do you get -
wheatgerm oil? - is it like aveeno oil stuff?
Pox clin?

Dh is going to get the lush dream cream tomorrow night, think I might be sending him with a list. Again! :)

mum2twoloudbabies · 16/07/2012 20:12

Well it's good news here. End of day 5 and much better this late afternoon and evening. Good oat bath and then let me smear the poxclin all over and do a few of the particularly bad ones on places like face and hands with sudacrem without too much resistance. She even said it didn't hurt as much so I hope we've turned a corner. Touching lots of wood as I type this.

Last night I was where you are Whenisit. The pox seems to move pretty fast from one phase to the next.

Hope we all have better nights.

mum2twoloudbabies · 16/07/2012 20:14

poxclin from boots but check because the small one in our village didn't have it but the big one a few miles away did. it's expensive but there's no dabbing just all over quick smearing with a mousse which has made it much easier.

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 20:14

Good news mum2

Good morning fellow poxters! And how are we all this morning?

Day 5 here I think. All blurring a bit. DD finally went to sleep at 11.30 last night and thankfully slept until 7. She is a bugger to settle at the best of times. She was so sore and nothing seemed to help.

She woke up in a foul mood, often does though. Takes after her father, who is a thread in himself.

A few more spots but nothing worrying. Scabbing nicely.

How is minimavis today?

mum2twoloudbabies · 17/07/2012 09:44

Good morning ValiumQueen we're good over here. First fullish night of sleep since this nightmare began. Day 6 here, scabbing nicely here too. No sign of itching and have actually managed to get proper clothes on her which is good as I was running out of my t-shirts for her!

mum2twoloudbabies · 17/07/2012 09:44

Anybody who has had a sibling caught it, how long between first one getting it and then the sibling showing signs?

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 10:27

Glad things are improving mum2. I think the incubation period is about two weeks?

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2012 12:34

Mum@ - I had a thread about that when my first caught it and the average seemed to be 2 weeks which was what it was with us too. :)

Good to hear minimavis is improving. Nighty wearing cartoons sounds most therapeutic. I have escaped today to the hospital. Awaiting X-ray on foot. Nice to be out!

mum2twoloudbabies · 17/07/2012 14:23

Glad minimavis is improving. DD is currently creating havoc in the garden dressed as a princess. I think that a full recovery has been made just the spots to finish clearing up now. Either that or she's so glad it's not raining that she intends to make the most.

2 weeks is not so bad we fly out to spain on the 7th August that should put him in the clear by the time we fly even if he still does have the scabs. Any later and we've had it and DD will be stuck in Spain on her own with ILs for 2 weeks. Not sure how that will go down.

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 15:43

No fracture thankfully. Back to poxville and DD is full of beans and not scratching or complaining of soreness. Thank God!

Glad the holiday is likely to go ahead. Sounds lovely.
