Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Well I feel like a fraud/bad mum, I've packed mine to my parents for the day! They didn't seem unwell (yet) and I was banking on some time while dd1 was at nursery to get some urgent work done, so mum and dad offered to take them for the day instead. I should think the dds will be saving up all the grottiness for when DH goes away for work for a couple of days from tomorrow.

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 11:16

Today is the best day for GP to have them, so long as they are kept isolated from vulnerable people. Your DH must be psychic!

Nursery just phoned to say there is chickenpox in DDs room. No shit! They could not remember who it was who had called on friday, and more have it now.

DD looks like Casper with the amount of Sudocream on her! It is working a treat, so I am keeping the expensive stuff for night time. Definitely more sore than itchy on day 4 for us.

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 11:17

I am coping with the cabin fever as I cannot go out anyway due to my ankle.

Oh mavis I do hope not! I must admit I thought I was coming down with it too - had it very badly as a child, then shingles shortly after. As I am pg that would be a worry. Nothing yet though.

It is going to take several washes to get the Sudocream out of her hair! And our brown leather sofa looks like giraffe print!

Ouch Miss Mavis - is she any better in her self today ?

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 12:46

Mavis are they scabbing up now? Any new ones? Surely on day 6 your poor DD is improving? I think my DD has got off pretty lightly really.

mum2twoloudbabies · 16/07/2012 13:06

Good afternoon, is anybody else having difficulty getting creams/lotions onto their poxy ones? DD just screams with everything and says it stings/hurts. She will let me put the poxclin on because it's quick and no dabbing of spots but even that is a trauma.

Rubbish night but better than previously and she seems to perk up in an afternoon. Dreading DS getting it which no doubt he will and probably at the same time as DH.

Good news is that some are starting to scab over but more and more are appearing, her legs have it now. Cabin fever rife.

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 13:12

I find letting DD put cream on herself while I dab away. Also asking her to point to the sore bits helps. Makes it into a bit of a game.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 16/07/2012 13:56

How old is you DD mum2 ? I have been having difficulty with the poxy one - but he is difficult with stuff like that anyway. He is 2 so difficult with a lot of things.
The cabin fever is getting to me too - although I got to take the rubbish out earlier [whoop]

I would call them today mavis as you are worried today. Hopefully she will make a wonderful recovery and look fine when the DR comes, as they often do, but that is highly unlikely. She clearly has a nasty bout, and she is weak. You were worried about her yesterday as she was wiped out, plus you are not feeling well. How about calling NHS direct for advice?

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 14:22

Also you have been doing more for her than any of us with your amazing list of treatments, and she has soo many spots. I would want reassurance that it will not lead to further complications as sadly it sometimes can (really not wanting to worry you though, but feel I need to say that). They should do a home visit. Insist on it as she clearly cannot travel, and would expose others to the virus.

Bless her, that is a sad little face. Glad you got to speak to the GP, and glad she has perked up a bit. Hopefully this is her on the way up. Do not google any more stories about chickenpox Sad

We all do it. Especially when bored stiff, and worried about our weans. I was upset enough by google images. Some of those tots you could barely see the skin in between the spots. Although your daughter looks poorly, I was imagining it to be more extensive, and is not too dissimilar to mine. Off to count spots...

She's 4 Handfull and a strop monster independent young lady at the best of times and knows everything. She won't do it herself, have tried bribery and distraction (although a bit old for that now) just need to keep nagging and eventually she gives in.

MissMavis my dd is also up and down, think some of it is sleep deprivation. Dd has had a nap the last 2 days (unheard of since she was under 2).

I am not even going to attempt to count them there are just too many. Got to 30 just on her face and gave up it was too depressing.

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 15:26

Ice pops are a good way of getting fluid in, and seems to ease her sore lips.

Stops the whining for a few minutes too.

mum2twoloudbabies · 16/07/2012 16:11

Ice pops here too. We've nearly run out must send dh on an emergency run on the way home from work. Or I may even wait until he gets home so I have an excuse to leave the house (must make sure I don't get a head rush from being too far away from home Grin)
