Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Good news on both the foot and DD, sounds like day 5/6 is the breakthrough days then. That's a light at the end of the tunnel for when DS gets it. Smile

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 16:38

Hopefully!

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 17/07/2012 17:40

Evening Poxers - Day 5 in the pox ridden house and all is well. Spots seem to be scabbing over and DS seems back to his normal self. No signs of other DS getting yet.

Valium and MissMavis How are you both feeling now ?
Hope all DC are on the road to recovery.

Good news handsfull

I am ok thank you, and so is DD. she fell asleep in her dinner!

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 18:56

Should have let her sleep as she is being a little sod now!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 17/07/2012 19:21

Ds is starting to feel better too! :) much happier today!

Right who knows when they stop being infectious?
As far as I can tell spots have several stages
Red mark
Blister
Puss-y mess
Scabby

We're meant to be going on holiday (to family) Thursday. Ds has no more blisters so can we go or do we have to wait for the puss ones to be scabby? Confused

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 19:40

They should remain isolated from all vulnerable folk until all gone scabby. Sudocream is my recommendation. Dries the little buggers up lovely. Glad he is on the mend.

Would you be able to still go away, but keep him in if still pussy? Hopefully by Thursday he should be scabbified.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 17/07/2012 21:35

Valium - we'd be travelling on Thursday so would just play at SIL house. Friday we're meant to be seeing other family, although there's no vulnerable groups. We could do the beach maybe if we find somewhere deserted? Would that work? Confused
I think he'd be scabby by Friday but some of them have scabbed, been knocked/ picked and then look puss-y again. Hmm

It's not the end of the world if we have to rearrange but I was SO looking forward to it!

Dh has been out to get dream cream from lush. He chatted up to the assistant and she gave him a tub of dream cream bath stuff to try as well. For free! Dh is full of charm! Grin
We also have the poxclin now as I think (like someone else up thread) it may sting. Ds can be fine and happy but a soon as he sees it he freaks! :(

Luckily I'm now finished work for the summer so the fact that I've had no sleep or days matters a little less! :)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 17/07/2012 21:37

Sorry not poxclin that stings (haven't tried it yet) its the virasoothe I think that might sting before it cools. Iyswim.

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 22:00

Yep ViraSoothe stings when poxes are raw. Ok when blister or scab. Especially stingy on lady bits. All this according to reaction of 2yo. It also stings when you get it in your eye, as witnessed by me.

ValiumQueen · 17/07/2012 22:01

Experienced by me even. Bed time me thinks. Sleep well all.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 18/07/2012 07:43

How did everyone sleep?

Ds slept through - almost!!!!! I was only up once with him! :)
And he slept till 7.00 nearly!

BUt when I went in.... Bloodbath! Shock he was literally Angry
He had picke the biggest baddest scab/ spot in his sleep. It had scabbed over but not anymore. It's just a bloody mess. Ad to get all the bloody off his face I had to rub other spots. :(

It's going to scar isn't it. :(

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 08:13

Morning!

It is possible it will scar, but it might not.I am glad he slept better.

DD2 slept from 9.15 to 7 without needing me, and woke in a fairly good mood. No new spots I can see. Day 6 today for us.

mum2twoloudbabies · 18/07/2012 08:36

Morning. WhenisitSad I am so thankful that DD doesn't seem to scratch more rub against her clothes which I think is helping the scabs a bit. Have you tried socks on the hands? I think all the years of don't scratch your eczema is finally paying off.

I think the poxclin stings too on the raw spots but because it's quick to smear on I found it more manageable. Once the majority are scabby it doesn't seem to be such a trauma.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 18/07/2012 08:38

I've just put the poxclin on. OMG! Not a whimper! :) in fact ds' only comment was that it tickled and that it didn't taste nice when he moved as I got it in his mouth.

Valium - glad your dd slept better. It's day 6 here too. I'm still not sure about the holiday as there are a few blistery ones which weren't there last time I did a thorough examination.

Going to try the stuff from lush later. I had a bit of the cream last night on my hands. Once I got over the smell (I can't go into lush as its too smelly) it was v nice.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 18/07/2012 08:40

Mumoftwo- he won't do socks for more than a second. I might suggest gloves tonight as I found them in the loft. Otherwise I'm getting the nail file out!

mum2twoloudbabies · 18/07/2012 08:43

I sneak the socks on once she's asleep but gloves might be the way to go. Good news about the poxclin.

wem · 18/07/2012 10:09

Hello again everyone. There's been little change in the dds, but I still suspect chicken pox. I'm stuck between hoping they don't get unwell, and hoping it's not so mild that they don't get immunity. How many of you have been to the doctor with your dcs? I want to get a proper diagnosis but I can't get an appt til Friday now, by which time it might be more obvious one way or the other I suppose. I've put another pic up of redder and more blistery spots in case anyone wants to attempt to diagnose anything other than chicken pox!

Thanks MissMavis, the ones in the picture are the only ones dd2 has, they are raised up, but wouldn't say they are blistering as such. I'm pretty sure it's chicken pox now actually, it can't be anything else! But I have a feeling it's going to come and go and I won't be sure if they've had it 'properly' or not. I really hope they avoid being as unwell as some of the dc on this thread though, it sounds so awful for them.

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 12:55

I would phone and ask to speak to a GP wem as they would not want you to take them to a surgery I would think , in case there is a baby clinic on or equally vulnerable folk in the waiting room. I am not convinced it is the pox tbh, but as you say, time will tell.

It seems I have fractured ankle after all. Hospital just phoned.

wem · 18/07/2012 13:08

I spoke to a HV and she said to warn them if I made an appointment and they'd put me in another room when I arrived. I don't know, other than it's bloody annoying being in quarantine when I don't even know if I need to be.

wem · 18/07/2012 13:08

sorry about your ankle, are you in a lot of pain?

ValiumQueen · 18/07/2012 13:19

It hurts, but not as much as I thought a break would. I should have had it checked sooner, but I could not leave my baby when she was so sore. I guess after having a baby you view pain differently eh?
