Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Day five here and its been the worst - hundreds of spots have appeared overnight! My gorgeous baby looks like a spotty teenager thats been on a fight!

Calamine bath with lavender oil is what i've been recommended.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 15/07/2012 18:06

Oh no mrsmoodypants - thats sounds tough hope tomorrow is better.
Blush I have just realised that camoline is the correct spelling and pronouciation - not camomile as I have been saying up until now .......how did I not realise Confused

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 18:23

It is camomile. You have been right all along. Camoline is a fishing term.

Day 5 the worst? Please God no!!! Poor little scrap! And poor you mrsmoody

mrsmoodypants · 15/07/2012 18:23

Same thing happened with DD - just when i thought it she was over the worst - day 5 hit and she was covered! Fortunately she got over it very quickly after that.

He's got them along his eyelashes which make me just want to cry when I look at him!

bumbleymummy · 15/07/2012 18:25

The lotion/cream is calamine and the plant that we make tea from is camomile.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 18:27

DD has them on her eyelids, in her lady bits, and in her mouth and on her lips. Her scalp is one big scab. I was so hoping things would improve from here. Found the Sudocream. Seems good so far.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 15/07/2012 18:34

Ooooooh spots in eyelids / ladybits sound so painful. It really is horrible seeing your DC suffer like that.

I might use sudocream tomorrow - do you think metanium might help ?
Thanks for filling me in Smile dont feel so silly now.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 18:49

Metanium is awesome. Don't know tbh. Try it on your baby first eh? Wink

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 18:50

Sudocream has really dried them out, and I have now put ViraSoothe on prior to, I hope, sleep.

Oh god the worst is to come, day 4 here. The poxclin has lavender in and chamomile. Plus aloe for anti-bacterial action. Without the ability to cover a large area quickly not sure we would get anything on dd. i wouldn't stand a chance with sudacrem although I bet it works a treat.

Not a good night so far been in bed 2 hours and has just started screaming and shouting. She has spots everywhere - ladybits, eyelids, eyebrows, in between toes, mouth and like ValiumQueens dd her head is one big scab.

Praying that the nightmare will end soon, although probably just in time for ds to get it.

Hello poxpeople, would you be so kind as to give your opinion on the spots on dd2's leg? Photo on profile. They appeared yesterday with no other symptoms so far. Definitely looking a bit more blistery this morning. I haven't seen chicken pox since I was a child and all the photos on google are so extreme I can't compare properly.

Thanks MissMavis. DD1 has just woken up (very late for her, which also makes me think she's ill) and has at least one suspicious spot on her arm so I think this is it Sad. Hope they're ok with it, I had it really badly as a child but hopefully they've inherited DH's immune system.

eastendywendy · 16/07/2012 08:26

Sorry to barge in but yes I'd say they were pox!

RillaBlythe · 16/07/2012 08:30

Just reading this thread as the baby has a mysterious spot on her arm & was exposed to chicken pox last week - & am now shitting myself - we don't have a bath! We have about two weeks to go on a bathroom refurb, clearly this is terrible timing - is it possible to survive the pox without a bath?!

CJ2010 · 16/07/2012 08:37

Can I join the pox support grp please?! DD, age 2, has come out in spots this morning. Fingers crossed it will be a mild dose of it.

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 08:46

rilla my DD has not been in the bath as I cannot manage her due to an ankle injury- it would not be safe. A bath is not essential IMO, and she is not a lover of the bath at the best of times.

A concern about Bepanthen is that it stains the skin. A stained bottom is one thing...

Well, DD had a pretty good night. In bed by 8.30 and awake at 7. During that time she was whining and moaning on occasions, but only woke at one point, 2.30, and with in a couple of minutes was fast asleep in a cuddle. Shame I could not sleep again after! Day 4 here, and she is complaining more of soreness than itchiness. She is loving trying to pick off the scabs though, so distraction is the name of the game. Having fun with the Sudocream as I let her put it on as well. Bit messy, but it seems effective at drying them up. About a dozen new spots today.

All our little tots will have it to varying degrees, and over varying timescales. I am very glad my eldest has had it, and my youngest is yet to be born. I feel for those with more than one child with this, but at least you are getting it over and done with.

How is everyone else?

ValiumQueen · 16/07/2012 08:49

I am really benefiting from this thread by the way. Welcome newbies, if that is appropriate Grin hope it is not too mild, otherwise they may not build up immunity, but also not too bad obviously!

DS2 had a terrible night with his. Up at 11, didn't resettle until 3am, up at 6am. DS1 full of 4 year old beans. It's going to be a long day!

DS2 has only 5 spots at moment, but is really rough with it, whereas DS1 was covered by this point but well.

Only been back at work 6 weeks, my boss must think i'm having a laugh!

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/07/2012 10:06

Morning. How are we all?!

Day 1 for DD1 and day 3 for DD 2 - DD2 has got a few more spots overnight and slept badly. After DD1's evening of throwing up she's much better, although she has a mild temp and woke up with some more spots. Think we're getting away with quite a mild dose, luckily.

Hope you all have a good day. We're having a PJ, TV, duvet day... like yesterday... and probably tomorrow!

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/07/2012 10:22

Counted 10 spots on DD1 when she woke up, she now has 50! Was watching them appear on her back whilst I was counting them!
