So relieved I didn’t have children

Do any other child free by choice women experience this sweeping relief from time to time? I’ve just got back from a holiday with several family children who are beautifully behaved and great company but whose parents were trapped in never ending arguments about who’d do what and who could have time to relax whilst the other minded the kids. It led to several tense atmospheres.

I know not all parents argue but I’ve got home with such an overriding sense of relief that I made the decision not to have kids.

@GehenSieweiter you have a fixation with perspective. If you need perspective, fine. You could start a thread about the pros and cons of having children and things to consider. Go ahead and do that? Don't be a victim and speak like a broken record. It's doesn't make it more appropriate. You missed the purpose of the thread.

I just had sweet chilli chicken pizza today. Just wondered what your perspective is on this?

Um, when have a labelled myself a 'victim' exactly?
I'm answering your repetitive questions, so if I sound like a broken record that's probably why.
Perspective is so important, it stops 'us vs them' mentality.
As for the pizza, I used to love those but sickened myself of them. HTH

I guess the clue is in the name.

"Mumsnetters without children"

Not
"Mumsnetters without children who really should be happy to have their threads derailed by mumsnetters with completely different experiences"

Again, Mumsnet.

No, Mumsnet .

It’s more of a general women’s site now and has been for a long time considering the literally hundreds of topics there are boards for, including many unrelated to children. That isn’t uncommon for forums. I know of many like Pistonheads or Citydata which were created to discuss a particular subject but which evolved over time so that their general chat forums became as much the focus and point of the site as the original subject.

Mumsnet were evidently happy enough to create a board for Mumsnetters without children so evidently it does fit in with the ethos of their site or they wouldn’t have created a dedicated board.

Haha I asked you why you insist this thread asked for perspective. It didn't and you can't admit it. Instead you start talking about echo chambers on a completely harmless post by someone. If perspective is important you don't seem to be able to consider the perspective of those who say it isn't required here.

I suggest you go to any other MN board on a topic that doesn't affect you and see how people will welcome your 'perspective'.

read the room.

No, Mumsnet .

At the risk of further derailing this thread, Mumsnet has morphed into something much bigger than a parenting forum. There are far more topics where being a mum is irrelevant than there are where it is actually relevant. There are also - shock horror - men on here. Probably some men who … aren’t even dads. As mentioned, several ‘safe space’ type boards have had to be removed from Active due to regular unhelpful and irrelevant contributions. How is it helpful to jump into a discussion between people who have decided not to have children to tell them about the positives of having children? Or to remind them that today’s children will one day be wiping their arses? It’s been done to death. Hence the separate board.

Why would you post this on a thread on the “without children” board?!

Oh the irony of posting this on MUMSnet 😂

It’s still predominantly a site for mums. Men are also allowed on here but no one likes that either. I find it odd, the need to say I’m happy or sad about my life choices. Seems like faux positivity.

I don't have an issue with anyone using MN, but it's odd to expect to never get responses from mums on what is primarily a site for mums/parents.

I've not done any of those things.

Onleemoi · 29/11/2025 14:21

I wonder if some of these mums were tedious bores before kids or just after.

No, Mumsnet .

You are aware that there are boards for (off the top of my head),

dog lovers
Cat lovers
DIY/property
gardening
style and beauty
religion
hobbies
TV discussions
Book discussions

None of which have to do with being a mum, so banging on about how the place is called Mumsnet as some kind of "gotcha" is verging on the ridiculous.

I mean they could have called it MumsnetandDadsnetandPeopleConsideringBecomingParentsAndThoseWhoAreStillUnsureAndThoseWhoDontWantThemButEnjoyUsingAForumThatIsFemaleFocusedNotToMentionChildcareProfessionalsAndTeachersAndWhoElseHaveIForgotten but that wouldn’t be very catchy or easy to type, would it?

Again MNHQ created the board so evidently they’re happy with the expansion of their site and that it’s as much a general chat and women focused forum as a parenting site.

Back to topic: what will all you childfree people do you think mother's can't do at all or not that easily?

I hope to be able to save and spend money at the same rate I do now to hopefully retire quite early with a good pot of investments. Then I hope to get involved with an animal charity and disadvantaged children that might experience the same struggles I did as a child.

I'm also about to place a big John Lewis order to make my home a bit nicer. I literally decided to do this this morning. I'm SO happy that I don't have to ask or consider anyone.

Perspective is always needed. Echo chambers aren't healthy.
Childfree folk often comment on threads concerning children, or remind us how dogs are better than kids etc.

Edited

No your perpective is not needed and it wasn’t asked for.

We were just having a chat amongst ourselves on the child free thread about how we’re happy with our choices. No need to change our perspective, we’re good thanks.
