Take nanny on holiday?

My children are 2.5 & 4 months, nanny just started working with us last week for my 4 month old. 2.5 Ye old remaining in nursery. We’ve not discussed holidays and I’d assumed we wouldn’t bring her. But would it be a good thing? Worth the extra expenses? I’m looking at club med and childcare is £365 per child per week. So £730 total. Bringing nanny will cost much more than that…ballpark I reckon £3k (cost of bringing her plus that she’s working rather than on a weeks holiday. ) also she’s not going to have resources or local knowledge etc.
im wondering whether ita probably much more enjoyable for children to be in kids clubs.

Give her a weeks holiday and enjoy your family holiday. You don’t have to put them in kids club the whole time.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 11/01/2025 18:29

Or you could spend time with your kids on your family holiday??

motherofonegirl · 11/01/2025 18:31

Why would you need childcare on a family holiday? Isn't the idea to spend time with your children?

FrannyScraps · 11/01/2025 18:31

Why do you need childcare for a family holiday? If you're back to work already (hence the nanny) then surely you'll love a week to spend with your children again.

Paperthin · 11/01/2025 18:31

…….you will put your baby and 3 year old in childcare during your week long holiday?

happygertie · 11/01/2025 18:33

Confused as to why you wouldn't want to be with your kids on holiday

TomatoSandwiches · 11/01/2025 18:33

Just leave them at home with the nanny and enjoy your holiday.

Overthebow · 11/01/2025 18:34

Why would you put a 2.5 year old and a 4 month old in a kids club on holiday or take a nanny? Wouldn’t you want to enjoy the holiday as a family? I can see kids club for entertainment for older kids but surely no 2 year old is going to want to go over spending time with their parents?

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 11/01/2025 18:35

Is Butlins an option?

TokyoSushi · 11/01/2025 18:37

Maybe I'm missing the point, but couldn't you do the bulk of the childcare on holiday? It wouldn't occur to me to need childcare when I'm essentially 'off...'

Whoarethoseguys · 11/01/2025 18:37

I'm with PP
Please send time with your children while you are are holiday rather than put them in childcare

littleluncheon · 11/01/2025 18:38

No point taking the kids at that age to put them in childcare the whole time.
I'd leave them at home with the nanny proxy parenting for the week.

Bodybutterblusher · 11/01/2025 18:38

Your 4 month old is far too tiny for kids club.

If this is your attitude yes bring the nanny everywhere.

CaledonianSleeper · 11/01/2025 18:39

I wouldn’t bother taking a nanny to club med, the childcare is excellent and a big part of why people go there. Many (French) families there will send their kids to the club from morning til teatime (little ones get ferried around in big pram-trucks holding 6 at a time). Those families don’t have to deal with the Mumsnet judgment though 😀

GCAcademic · 11/01/2025 18:39

An even better idea: just leave them at home with the nanny and enjoy your holiday by yourself?

feathermucker · 11/01/2025 18:42

You'd put your 4 month old in childcare? Not to mention the toddler aswell?

Why even take them?

EasternStandard · 11/01/2025 18:42

They are very young for kids’ club, the 4 month old especially

I didn’t realise they were allowed at that age

lemonyellows · 11/01/2025 18:43

Surely it's a family holiday. Being together

BarbaraHoward · 11/01/2025 18:43

Yeah sorry OP, but I don't think you'd need childcare on holiday. Nothing against childcare in general, lord knows I've used plenty, but that just means it's more important to us to spend time together on holiday.

But with two little ones (I have the same age gap) the holiday will still be hard work for you two so choose appropriately. We just did center parcs at that age and it worked well.

ETA that if you so decide to stick with the childcare plan, then at least bring the nanny so it's familiar, high-quality childcare.

Oh FFS ppl this is clearly a troll. Stop biting

LittleBearPad · 11/01/2025 18:48

Really Hmm??

You do know Nannie's have statutory holiday too. Sooner or later you'll have to care for your children.

Beautifulweeds · 11/01/2025 18:50

Why would you need a nanny on holiday? Whole point is a family getaway, nanny helps when you're both working??

EdgarAllenRaven · 11/01/2025 19:04

When I took my 4 month old on holiday, my breaks were when she napped.
If you can persuade the 3 year old to spend an hour in the kids club at that time, you may get the odd hour off…
You will also have evenings to yourselves in the room once they’re both asleep.
Get a nice large apartment with a balcony and you’ll be fine.

There are actually real people who think like this. It's very depressing.

I know several nanny-employing families who leave the kids at home or take the nanny with them - they'd never holiday with their kids alone because it's not a holiday for them!
