Brilliant news @Emma1620

Mumofsoontobe5 · 17/08/2023 10:59

@Emma1620 regarding UC there’s different options u can claim carers via UC or go direct via carers allowance going through carers allowance u will need to declare this to UC u also need to let UC know the award date of the DLA this will ensure ur paid back pay from the disabled child element also u should be able to apply for the cost of living payment £150 that u should also be entitled to but I don’t know if this is through UC if anyone can advise further if not there’s a link on the part 11 pages I believe

Mommyof42023 · 17/08/2023 11:17

Our scan date was the 25/04 I hope we hear soon too! Congratulations

Neastmom · 17/08/2023 11:43

I’ve Never had a text message off them since our first ever claim, rang last week and got told it would be done before our current award ended

TiredOfCleaning · 17/08/2023 11:47

I'm holding of ringing for a few weeks. Maybe end of August. [bites fingernails]

Since we applied I have had to put in further documentation that was requested and then a letter stating something had changed.

Does anyone know if this sort of automatically holds things up?

Dasons777 · 17/08/2023 11:59

I see people saying they’re told it’s with a decision maker or it’s been pushed forward. I never get info other than it’s taking 17 plus weeks and to hold on and the lady today told me they can never give out the info as to whether it’s with a decision maker or not. Seems we’re all told different. Mines new claim scan date 26/4 so 16wks plus 1

Mommyof42023 · 17/08/2023 12:23

I’ve just rang and been told 17 weeks plus, when 2 weeks ago I was told it would be with a decision maker within the week our scan date is 24/04 so it’s frustrating seeing dates after being awarded it’s a horrible process for anyone. I’ve put in a complaint now as the lack of communication is disgusting! And the wait times for these children are un realaitic. I only applied so it would help with getting transport to get my son to and from school as he can’t handle the walking of something has changed or we walk a different route. I feel like pulling out it’s so draining

TiredOfCleaning · 17/08/2023 12:31

Don't pull out. Thanks

You have done all the hard work on the application front.

As much as I'm happy for every one who is finally getting a response back it's so infuriating that people who are wayyy behind the scan date from me are getting responses

Shellbel10 · 17/08/2023 12:35

Chin up @Mommyof42023 i wish you the best of luck. This process is mentally draining isn’t it. My son was declined last year and I’m feeling so anxious it’s going to be another decline. This waiting game makes it all worse

Mommyof42023 · 17/08/2023 12:37

Thank you, I really hope you get a positive outcome this time round!
Honestly it really is so draining! Even the wait times for appointments for our children is ridiculous! Let’s hope we all hear something within the next 2 weeks!

Dasons777 · 17/08/2023 12:39

Hang in there. My worry is rejection too then more waiting on a MR. Very stressful but don’t pull out. You’re a couple days ahead of me. Hopefully we’ll hear soon x

Mommyof42023 · 17/08/2023 12:39

we wouldn’t apply for our children if we didn’t think they deserve it! So it’s so frustrating they can put such a lengthy timing on the whole process. Just doing the form actually had me in tears because we live it everyday I feel I forget half of what happens until we’re made to write it down! Thank you 🥰

Mommyof42023 · 17/08/2023 12:40

Honestly this is how I feel!
I felt like I was being so mean about my child when reality is he is special needs and I feel like I haven't come to terms with it.
This process of even a little help from DLA and then not hearing anything for months on end to be told "another 2 weeks" each time is just even more frustrating along with the endless appointments on top

everything is so stressful when you have a child with additional needs. Just the relentless having to advocate for them. My son for example has far exceeded the clinical criteria for Tourettes. His former (now retired) paediatrician says 'It's not tourettes, he doesn't swear'. FFS. That is so outdated and a misunderstood thing. He's been ticcing for as along as i remember.

He also has a fairly rare and definitely misunderstood allergy. It's been diagnosed by a specialist, but people still think such a thing doesn't exist.

He has a number of formal diagnoses but every time i have to explain what is going on with him it feels like you just get a raised eyebrow and that someone important is making a note of 'overprotective, paranoid mother'.

I bloody hate it. How dismissive professionals can be.

TiredOfCleaning · 17/08/2023 12:50

Oh yes and I cried through the form. We adapt to DS. We have adapted from the time things became clear there were issues. Some of his issues are related to a totally avoidable birth injury. I have adapted, and grieved. You get used to adapting. Writing it all down and re-reading his various reports brings it slap bang to you 6again^ how disabled and disadvantaged they are. I started filling in the application last November after putting it off for 8 years. It took me until April to actually submit and I cried through most of it.

SpaceRaiders · 17/08/2023 13:12

@TiredOfCleaning Same here. I got the forms in December, between going through it making sure I’d not missed anything and gathering the additional evidence and summary from school, I didn’t post it out until April. I wish I’d have posted them off sooner tbh!

Mommyof42023 · 17/08/2023 13:20

i always say before I leave any appointments, you may work in this department but live a day or even a few hours of our lives and they would see a whole different situation!
lwts just hope and prey our children get the outcome they deserve!!

Lovemyones · 17/08/2023 14:34

Hi, just wanted to pop on here as have seen so many frustrated people, filling in the forms the hard part, waiting on the decision is so nerve wracking and stressful but irrelevant of when you get the decision is going to get backdated so the longer you wait the more you get in the lump sum. Saying you feel like pulling out would be ridiculous you've came so far your kids deserve the money and the hardest parts done!

Our awards were given at the end of July so I waited from 13 march until 28th July. I have put our daughters mandatory reconsideration in regarding the mobility as feel that because there's none given when your child can walk it's unfair if they won't. I have to carry an almost 4 year old around so figured was worth a reconsideration based on the fact she gets pushed or carried everywhere.

With regards to the UC if you write on the journal you have been awaiting a decision since (date) and it's been awarded at whatever rate on (date) so that's why it hasn't been requested previously but you want to request it be backdated from the date you are getting backdate DLA. Update the caring status from that date as well (where eligible) good luck to everyone!
