Can someone explain do you renew every year?

WooYa · 23/08/2023 11:47

@MaMamiD they usually tell you when your renewal is due. My sons first claim lasted until he was 5 and his new claim is until 2030

It all depends. My son seems to be on a 2 year cycle. My friends son is on a 5 year. If the child’s condition could potentially change for the better you will have a shorter cycle.

17 weeks tomorrow since they received mine sent couple of weeks before that recorded delivery it’s a new claim just got through after hour or so wait wasn’t to bad dint get cut off said it’s with a case manager anyone have any idea how long that usually takes and is many of you being notified via text message x

allthedramamick · 23/08/2023 12:52

not sure if this will be of any help but if your child has an ehcp you can apply for a free bus pass (it can be used at any time not just for school travel). I’ve also had a couple of grants from family fund over the years, they’ve bought some garden play equipment and an iPad for my son.

She doesn't have an EHCP (yet! I think that will be the next battle) but that is good to know for the future. Amazing re family fund too, just looking into that now. Thank you Smile

I called on Friday and it wasn't with a DM. The decision was made on Sunday, and I think lots get a decision same day (but sometimes it can take a week or two).

On Friday I asked if I could get a text when the decision was made & they said they'd make a note, but I didn't. Looks like most people don't, but some do. No rhyme or reason to any of it!

Fingers crossed for good news for you today!

treeoakkez · 23/08/2023 13:04

I only called yesterday 👀 should I call again today or is it too soon

Mom23milly · 23/08/2023 13:11

My scan date was 12/5 I've called 3 times and had different responses each time but it looks like I've got a long wait still 🤷‍♀️

Mimmzy169 · 23/08/2023 14:10

I called yesterday scan date 27/4 it's not even with a DM yet they said it would be picked up this week for them to look at it next week the wait is horrible

hidebab · 23/08/2023 14:15

Thank you and fingers crossed for everyone waiting xx

ET2002 · 23/08/2023 14:15

Scan date of 26th april, mine was with was a decision maker monday and they made a decision Tuesday for High rate care, no mobility as he is only 3. Good luck everyone.

StanleyParents · 23/08/2023 14:42

It's the Mobility I'm the most concerned about, my son who is 6 can technically walk, but he follows his own agenda, he will not walk in a direction we want to go, if we try we may get a full blown meltdown which can result in him running into the road, throwing himself to the ground, kicking out at us or any passing pedestrians, his behaviour is so erratic we have had to order locking wrist restraints to stop him just running off.

StanleyParents · 23/08/2023 15:14

GG89 · 21/08/2023 21:49

Hey. Does he have substantial night needs? Like doesnt sleep? On sleeping meds etc? That is the only way you can get hrc.
however not many people are successful with hrm as it’s extremely hard to be awarded this, ive seen cases of children being in wheelchairs and not even being eligible. However it does sound like you have enough reason/evidence to get an award x

Sleep is a real challenge some days he is fine, others he will only sleep a few hours

fingers crossed you get the hrc for the night needs. They say that on most days your child must need substantial night needs to qualify. However just see your mobility message and i believe that will only fall under lrm. Hrm is so hard to be awarded you have to be severely visually impaired or be able to prove every point of a certain chart (vuw/smi i think it is) to be awarded x

It seems to be a proverbial minefield for information as to what can qualify, I was using this page: https://contact.org.uk/help-for-families/information-advice-services/benefits-financial-help/benefits-and-tax-credits/disability-living-allowance/#can-my-child-get-dla

There is a section which gives a mobility parent guide and says they look at 5 areas, and based on that I'd say my son meets 4 of them. The high cute rate is the only one I'm not sure about, so fingers crossed!

I'm so happy that I have been awarded finally. Does anyone know after payment how long it takes to receive the letter with info and if you then have to apply for the cost of living payment that was issued in July? Scan date was 25/04.

Mommyof42023 · 23/08/2023 18:00

Best of luck with it all. We are on week 10 now and counting down the days to a decision x

Thank you. Best of luck to you too! Hopefully not too much longer for you to wait now.

I was a bag of nerves sending my form off yesterday. I’ve convinced myself I’ve missed something important off or the envelope has opened and things have got lost 🤦🏼‍♀️. I lost so much sleep over it last night.

hidebab · 23/08/2023 20:14
