Ive have emplyed 5 au pairs and 5 nannies. All of them bar 1 have taken the piss out of me to varying degrees.

The current so to be not one is a nanny/HK to my 2 teenagers. `fully ofsted registered and paid £26k a year live in ( in Manchester ).

I have discovered she is taking some ( not all ) of our laundry to the local ironing service and paying for it out of the kitty. Treating her self to lunch and coffee out of the kitty most days ( usually in Starbucks ) and shopping exclusively for her food for her self contained accomodation on the family credit card ( which is for work use only ) in Marks and Spencesr when she shops for the children in Morrisons and won't eat what they are eating.

On top of that she is she says too busy to do cleaning yet most days is somewhere other than my house in our car. I know this because we have randomdly popped home during the day and she is out in our car not hers and I can see where she has been using the credit card......35 miles in the opposite direction to the one school run she needs to do a day.

She also sneaks things for her own home through amazon on our account too. Ive found the delivery notes in the bin !!!

Dear God I feel a fool. I thought I could trust this one. The others have mainly been worse. The one before faked a family death to get a months compassionate leave and snuck off to America on holiday. She never came back !!

Oh well. You live and learn. I will never employ a nanny again Thank goodness and good luck and my commiserations to all of you who unfortunately still have no choice.

Im here for advice !!!!!!!Coz I got it so right !

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I imagine that Skiing won't be able to confirm if she is the OP as the case is on-going..... But good luck to you, and I'm glad that things seem to be going in the right direction.

michtaylor · 17/10/2013 20:37

no it isn't. It just has to be true.

MissStrawberry · 17/10/2013 21:17

skiing, who are you?

VivaLeThrustBadger · 17/10/2013 21:33

Maybe Skiing is the friend of the OP who posted a little update when thread was first active?

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 17/10/2013 21:38
Hmm
SuperiorCat · 17/10/2013 21:41

I was on this under a different name first time round,

Skiing how do you know?

lborolass · 17/10/2013 21:51

skiing is the original OP, look at her previous posts.

Flatiron · 17/10/2013 22:06

But what happened about the hoover bags??

InTheFace · 17/10/2013 22:15

Good grief. Just read skiing's post on that other thread, all seems clear now.

How dreadful you had this going on in your own home, from someone you specifically told you didn't want receipts from any more because you trusted her. This must make you so so angry. Why should you constantly have to be on the lookout for people taking advantage of you?

PowerPants · 17/10/2013 23:08

Woah what a sad update. Thank you for letting us know...

YourHandInMyHand · 18/10/2013 08:36

It's nice to realise you are reading a zombie thread that actually has an update rather than has been resurrected for no apparent reason. I was on this thread under previous talk name too.

skiingnomore · 18/10/2013 08:58

hoover bags were a distraction tbh. It was the lottery tickets scratchcards mobile phone top ups and childrens gift vouchers they had for Christmas that were the subsequently discovered shockers.

been going on for the whole of her employment............ Shock

Bluebell99 · 18/10/2013 09:04

But how old are your children?in this thread, you say they are teenagers, and in your other one as skiingnomore, a year ago, they were 10 and 12?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2013 11:05

Always nice to get an update - and if nanny had been stealing aLl that time then she deserves everything she gets !!!

So many name changes - I'm still blondes :)

Mummyoftheyear · 20/10/2013 20:25

Presumably you realised these things over a period of time, rather than all at once? If so, why didn't you mention them to her - especially since you would've had the evidence (Amazon delivery notes, credit card statements, etc.) to hand.
Perhaps none of these things were major difficulties if taken as separate. Are you just coming to the realisation that these misdemeanours are adding up to her taking you for a complete ride/ fool?

I'm not of the viewpoint that this is your fault or that your previous difficulties with others indicate that 'it must be you'. I have a zillion stories where I've been taken for an absolute fool. Embarrassing, infuriating and ... time to wise up and get rid! Good luck! Xx

skiingnomore · 28/12/2014 13:19

So for anyone who is interested and remembers this thread after a 2.5 year police investigation and 8 court hearings ( most where she didn't appear ) Nanny was convicted of fraud by abuse of position and fined . To the end she still claimed it was a mistake including stealing from my children she was employed to look after.

Its been a very sad time ( for her and us ) and Im glad it is over. Ive waived my right to compensation and getting any of the money back. Over £4k went in 2 years but I am told she has serious money problems having not been able to work through stress and depression and so the chances of recovery are slim. I also have no wish to make life worse for her to be honest. A criminal conviction is what she got and frankly deserved and had she admitted it when first questioned I would never have taken it further. She tried to make out it was my fault but the magistrates were having none of it and rejected out of hand her request for an unconditional discharge.

At least she won't be able to work with children or vulnerable people in the future and do it to others.

Thanks to all those who gave me support on here .

FlorenceMattell · 28/12/2014 13:29

A nanny here. So sorry you have had this terrible experience. You sound a lovely employer. You were right to take her to court as she now has the criminal conviction she deserves.
Hope 2015 is a better year for you and your family.

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 13:43

Bloody hell sking that's terrible. So glad she was convicted.

Thanks for coming back and updating.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 13:47

Wow, thanks for the update.

VivaLeBeaver · 28/12/2014 13:47

I remember this. Am glad she got convicted.

Tattiebogle · 28/12/2014 13:49

Im sorry but if 4 out of 5 nannies/au pairs have taken advantage of you then you only have yourself to blame.

I employ a variety of staff and say the above out of experience.

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 13:49

RTF

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 13:50

*RTFT

Tattiebogle · 28/12/2014 13:50

Im sorry I didn't read the full thread but I still stand by what Ive said.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2014 13:51

Glad things got resolved for you in court tho shame came to that but Obv with stealing you have to take action

Still intrigued over the Hoover bags - was nanny selling them on? And you said she claimed lottery tickets and mobile phone vouchers and kids pressies :(

What do you go for childcare now?
