Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

Hi there

I managed it at 40+7 - lovely homebirth. Midwife arrived at 4.30ish (on Saturday), G&A arrived at 5.30ish, little girl arrived at 5.55.

i think the sweep 48 hrs previous was the thing. Everything felt different after that. Good luck!

morethemerrier · 04/05/2010 19:39

Congrats Flybynight!

Sounds like a lovely experience, I'm hoping for a homebirth (due in 10 days!) fingers crossed!

TootaLaFruit · 06/05/2010 11:38

Congratulations FlyByNight - am v.jealous of lovely homebirth and of baby arrival!

Had rubbish midwife appointment yesterday where she undid any hope I had of having this baby any time soon (am 40+6) and then she booked me in for an induction at 40+12, but I realised when I got home she calculated the dates wrong and I will actually be 42 wks, but have no way of contacting her to ask her to change it. Bah humbug. Want Baby Now.

V. happy for you though

madcatsazz · 06/05/2010 13:35

I have been avoiding this thread in the vain hope that not admitting it would make the baby come but......

no sweeps booked yet, midwife on monday to discuss booking induction but I really really don't want one!

Hi everyone, my name is madcatsazz and my last drink was 40 weeks ago....!

TopSop · 06/05/2010 18:35

And I'm STILL here - 40+12 today, induction booked for 3pm tomorrow. Think I had a bit of a show today, and everything is quite tender and achey, but no sign of baby wanting to make an appearance. Sigh.

madcatsazz · 06/05/2010 19:11

good luck topsop

Crikeyme · 07/05/2010 08:04

Like Madcatsazz, I was hoping that denial would get me through being overdue, but sadly it's not to be. I'm currently 41+4 and having had two sweeps, I need to call the hospital at lunchtime to check they still have a bed for my induction tonight. According to the midwife who did my sweep yesterday, the only problem is that my cervix is behind the baby's head, so it's not dilating as there's no pressure on it. My first sweep did nothing as she couldn't reach round to loosen the membranes; had sex that night and got a show in the morning, but second sweep also couldn't clear any more and she ended up just manipulating the cervix a bit, to no avail so far.

I'm so fed up - my pregnancy's been so straightforward and the baby is healthy and strong, so it just seems ridiculous that instead of being able to use the midwife unit (much more relaxed, your own bathroom, go in when you need to, lots of pain management options that don't involve being tied to the bed and drugged) I'll have to go in tonight to the far more regimented maternity ward for my first dose of prostin, then possibly keep having it way into tomorrow, and then have to spend my entire labour there... My health authority lets you go for 12 days, so they're banking on my labour starting tomorrow, but I know other places let you go for 14 days over and I'm getting so annoyed thinking that if I was living somewhere else, I could have my baby with no intervention in the next couple of days.

Sorry about the rant, I'm pretty much at the end of my tether with this! Good luck to everyone else in this position xx

madcatsazz · 07/05/2010 12:36

Crikey - surely you still have a choice? They can't force you to be induced if you don't want - couldn't you ask for extra monitoring instead? As long as they have told you their policy, they can hardly drag you in and force you to accept the prostin. That said, you may have come round to the idea of actually having the baby by now and if so, good luck. Here's hoping you get the labour you want.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/05/2010 18:44

I asked my Mw about this when I thought I was going to have to have an induction, the problem is that as soon as you go past the 42 weeks you are no longer considered to be a low risk pregnancy, even if you were previously. So even if you refuse the induction, and have additional monitoring it would probably be against their protocols to let you use the MLU

madcatsazz · 07/05/2010 19:00

I hate the system sometimes - it's so hard to beat it!! I don't get how they can class as high risk, assuming monitoring pre-labour shows everything to be all fine, how can going slightly over a predicted date make it higher risk!? Grrr, makes me mad

I know policies are there for a reason but I just wish they could be applied to the individual circumstances instead of one rule for all.

madcatsazz · 11/05/2010 08:49

Any babies yet? 41wks here and still waiting.

belly36 · 11/05/2010 10:21

Hello can I join? I'm now 40+2

Been told countless times that second babies are hardly ever late. Tosh. Bah

Bit fed up as you can probably tell. I feel like I've been off work for a hundred years already...

madcatsazz · 11/05/2010 19:24

Hi belly

Come join the party - although things have gone quiet on here so thinking maybe I'm having a lil party all by myself!! Be nice to have some overdue company. This is my second too and I totally agree with your Tosh and Bah. DD1 came at 39+5 and I'm now 41 so it's all crap.

belly36 · 12/05/2010 09:07

STILL here.

Quite bored now, house has started to look messy again after last week's cleaning frenzy. I'm into cant-be-botheredness now...

Anything happening with you?

madcatsazz · 12/05/2010 13:38

still nothing here. I'm now off out for a swim - something to keep my mind off things. When I say swim I think I really mean floundering about in the water like a large sack of potatoes! I'm with you in the can't be bothered camp. House has been 'ready to receive visitors' several timers over and then just gets messed up again. Decided to wait until I;m in labour - push hoover around whilst contracting!!

supersuz · 12/05/2010 19:15

Hello everyone. Baby Alexander was born on the 5th May weighing a massive 10 pounds (14 days overdue). Induction wasn't successful and in the end had a c section. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting.

pamelat · 12/05/2010 19:31

Am due today so can I kind of count???

Really hoping baby waits as DH is laid up in bed sick

belly36 · 13/05/2010 11:02

A show and back pain, is this something happening maybe??...

madcatsazz · 13/05/2010 16:44

congrats supersuz, hope you aren't feeling too bad now. I'm still here and overdue - 41+2 now.

KatnKankles · 13/05/2010 18:10

Hey.. looks like I'm joining you too Due the same day as you Pamelat so 40+1 today....

Anyone else sick of all the phonecalls and texts?? I know I should be grateful that people care but it gets a bit miserable having to say 'no nothing is happening' 10 times a day!

Madcat poor you.. I feel bad complaining at only 1 day over now!

This is my 4th baby. First was induced a bit early but the girls both came 6 days late so I have been expecting to go over but forgot how thoroughly crap it is.

Plus I seem to constantly have the trots and piles to go with lovely!

belly36 · 13/05/2010 18:22

My phone calls and texts have stopped (they started at 37 weeks). I think my mum has had words...

madcatsazz · 13/05/2010 19:30

lucky you belly - I get calls from the same people every day. I've started ignoring them and answering later with a text so I don't have to talk to people. As I'm refusing induction I'm even more reluctant to talk to people because I can't be bothered to explain or justify why I haven't got a 'date for induction' yet! Kat - whilst I am tempted to agree 'poor me' and to soak up the sympathy for a while (because I'm feeling particularly crappy this evening) I doubt it will do me any good! There are people worse off our there I guess. This overdue stuff has come as a bit of a shock though as DD1 was 39+5 and quite unexpected so I had no reason to think the same wouldn't happen again! That'll teach me. As for the trots - I went through a phase last week of 'having a clear out' shall we say and it was really unpleasant - I now just have the...erm...flatulance to deal with - I'm excusing myself from the room an awful lot at the minute and I swear one trump lasted for over a minute the other day (Sorry for TMI) and because I was on my own and DP had gone up to bed, I got the giggles. Ah, the fun of pregnancy.

morethemerrier · 13/05/2010 19:54

madcatsazz, oh my gosh that really made me giggle!!!

I know what you mean about the wind problem! my 2 year old keeps declaring, mummy stinks!

I'm due tommorow, no signs of anything happening, unless the hysterical fit of giggles you just caused gets things moving!!!

madcatsazz · 13/05/2010 21:52

I know - you have to find some humour in this situation - of course the giggles to bring on another 'bout' if you're not careful! I try not to do it in front of DP because he never does it front of me but I have informed him that it's a medical condition and sometimes I just can't help it.

Ah well, that's nothing compared to the faces I expect to be pulling during labour!

weasle · 13/05/2010 22:20

have come to moan as 40+4 and want this baby out! MW coming tomorrow and wants to book my induction for next week, which i think i am going to refuse/ask to put back.

have had strong braxton-hicks/mild contractions mostly in the evenings for about 2 weeks now, every day i go to sleep thinking this will be the night, and every morning i am waking up more and more miserable that it hasn't happened. i am finding it hard as i know a positive state of mind is important, especially for my much desired home birth.

think will probably ask for a sweep tomorrow, but worried that will break waters and i'll have to go in to hospital anyway!

am off to bed to grump.
