have you forgotten the pain?

Can hardly believe my ds is 2 today! Snuggling him this morning I thought back to the first time I ever held him and how wonderful that was, but also how most of that was just the pure relief that the birth was over! I do want more children sometime but I will never be one of those women who say "sure it hurts but you forget once you want another". I will never forget! What do you all think? (BTW birth fairly routine, needed ventouse but not overly long.)

Well, I am the mother of four so I suppose you do forget to some extent, or rather, in my case, the desire for more children just overrode the fear of the pain. My second was born 18 months to the day after my first and the births were totally unlike each other (first being very difficult). If you want to have another child, I would say go for it. The pain will be less and the rewards are just as great!
BTW happy birthday your ds. My ds3 is 2 in a couple of weeks time. Doesn't it go quickly?

I loved giving birth (strange but true!) and can't really remember the pain.

suzywong · 02/02/2005 14:46

have forgotten the pain but haven't forgotten the indignity of antenatal ward care

Kelly1978 · 02/02/2005 14:46

I haven't forgotten it at all. I screamed the place down with ds who was 9lb7oz, and I'm really dreading having the twins. I would have an epidural, but really dont like the idea of a needle in my back plus worry abt complications.

I remembered the pain but it still didn't stop me having another one. 1st time was emergency section, so was petrified of repeat performance 2nd time round. Thankfully, they gave me an elective section which was just as painful. But worth every bit of pain I'd like to add!

kymbo · 02/02/2005 14:54

Have slightly. I remember it bloody hurt. And the relief once they were out. After ds I swore, never again. Then after dd,I said DEFINATLY not again... but you never know.
Best friend was my birthing partner with ds, and now she is 7 mths pregnant and s**tting herself about labour, after watching me!
I have told her, everyone copes differently with pain.........

lucy5 · 02/02/2005 14:54

no but it hasnt put me off wanting another one.

roisin · 02/02/2005 14:55

I forgot the pain almost instantaneously with all three (don't want any more though). They were all pretty easy labour/deliveries though.

I haven't forgotten how much I hated the pn wards though, even though I was only in for very short periods of time.

MistressMary · 02/02/2005 14:56

Um no!
He is here now though.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 02/02/2005 14:57

I will never forget, no. It did put me off having a second but I one anyway. Thank goodness I'm never doing it again!

skerriesmum · 02/02/2005 14:59

It is all worth it in the end, I wouldn't trade ds for anything. But it bloody hurts! Thanks Lonelymum for the birthday wishes!

Didn't forget the pain with DS (or the shell shock of being in hospital/out of control/pn ward experience) but I think I have with DD. Think the difference was that it was a much easier birth (so obviously less pain although still hurt) and also I was in control - at home.

beansprout · 02/02/2005 15:04

Have not forgotten, still upsets me to think about it (only 3 months ago though). Good to know that it is only for a short time though. As ds was my first, I just couldn't really see past the birth but now I know it does stop at some point! He is utterly worth it though!!!

Dear god no.

Poshpaws · 02/02/2005 15:24

I remember certain contractions, but the vast majority I really don't remember. I KNOW it hurt but the ones I remember were particularly painful.

Had epi and G&A last time, but remember thinking once DS popped out that I would do it again - and I will be in about 3 months, at home (eek!)

galaxy · 02/02/2005 15:26

Nope or screaming at the midwife that I couldn't f'ing do it" and that was only 5 minutes after I'd arrived in the delivery suite.

otto · 02/02/2005 15:45

Ds is almost 11 months old and I do remember the pain, but not the actual intensity of it.

lowcalCOD · 02/02/2005 15:50

no all i need is a run of upset tummya dn I remember hte cramps

dejags · 02/02/2005 17:24

I remember the pain in a hazy sort of way. I felt so empowered during labour it overrode the pain (which was hideous) - I really enjoyed labour and birth (strange but true)...

no easy as anyhting
out after 3 hours

acnebride · 02/02/2005 17:35

but what were the 3 hours like...?

no but it doesn't haunt me like it used to. 6 wks was a\turning point. remember more how i reacted than the actual pain.

bonym · 02/02/2005 17:38

No - haven't forgotten - 7 weeks to go until no. 2 is due and I am MUCH more worried about labour this time around because I KNOW how much it's going to hurt - I think you have slightly rose-tinted specs on the first time as no matter what people tell you, you're just not prepared for the intensity of the pain! I remember saying to dh "I don't want to do this any more" and then screaming for an epidural!
