How long was it between arriving at hospital and giving birth for you?

I'm wondering if we were in the hospital for a typical amount of time. I arrived at 12.20am (6cm dilated) and gave birth at 10.37am, so it was 10 hrs from arrival until birth (first baby). How long was it for you? And then how long were subsequent births?

6 hours and 5 hours. Both straightforward

birdglasspen · 13/09/2023 19:36

1st: 32 hours emergency section
2nd: 24 hours forceps
3rd: 2days planned section admmited
incase of cord prolapse

10 hours sounds good 😂

Arrived at hospital with contractions every three minutes. Changed almost immediately to every two and baby arrived 35 minutes later.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/09/2023 19:41

Dc1 9 hours (induced)
dc2 more than 5 minutes but less than 10! They were in a hurry to meet us!

AchillesHeelys · 13/09/2023 19:54

DD - 19 hours (arrived at 10am for check after waters broke the previous day, put on induction drip at 7pm, DD born at 5am)

DS - 90 mins (arrived at 9am after 5 hours of contractions at home, and an hour stuck in traffic! was measured as 8cm on arrival and just had enough time to waddle over to the birthing suite and get in the bath before he popped out)

First I was there for about 10hrs ish. Second I was there for about 4hrs ish. However I'd actually first gone in about 3hrs prior to that and been sent home. I was only home for about 1hr before DH insisted on taking me back in and I was then 9.5cm. So I wish they'd bloody let me stay and it was horrendous travelling back and forth etc in a short space of time with severe pain and then subsequent distress.

About 30 seconds for DC2 who was born at the entrance. Had a home birth for DC3 as a result.

sparkedsparkle · 13/09/2023 20:46

With ds, arrived at hosp at 7pm and had him just after 2am
With dd arrived at hosp at 8pm and had her at 12am

Tarkan · 13/09/2023 21:59

First was half an hour after getting there. Second was 3.5 hours. Thankfully I gave birth in a local midwife led unit as with the bigger hospital in the next city, I wouldn't have made it in time with my first.

thankyouforthedayz · 13/09/2023 22:05

DC 1 - 5.5 hours
DC 2 - 3.5 hours

SamRr · 13/09/2023 22:12

Gosh I'm reading comments to see if any passed 28 hours 😰
-Friday evening waters broke
-Saturday evening admitted
-Contractions started
-Gave birth Monday morning 28 hours later pushed for an hour

TheBirdintheCave · 13/09/2023 23:02

@SamRr Mine was technically 36 hours but only the very end was at the hospital as I arrived at 10cm.

Mitzie9809 · 13/09/2023 23:47

First child - 48 hours (waters had broken early on so was monitored for infection)
Second child - 12 hours.

Both of mine were back to back awkward babies though.

whereismysleep · 13/09/2023 23:50

First time, arrived about 10am, gave birth about 7am the following day. It was traumatic.

Second time, about 5 hours.

tinymeteor · 13/09/2023 11:45

First time: 14 hours
Second time: 20 mins, DH didn’t even get the parking ticket on the car

Exactly the same for me too!

Lizbiz89 · 14/09/2023 16:01

1st - 12 hours
2nd - 1 hour

AngeloMysterioso · 15/09/2023 00:35

DS1 - arrived triage 1am ish I think (contractions started about 7pm), delivered 5:40 pm. Back to back (ouch) so took ages to dilate to 4cm and move to delivery, and eventually pushed for 2 hours before episiotomy/ventouse.

DS2 - contractions around 10:30pm, arrived to triage around 2am, popped out still in triage at 2:10am. Would’ve got there sooner but had to wait for PILs to arrive & pick up DS1 and road closures meant a 50 mile diversion.

DS3 better give me my water birth or he’s gonna be on my shit list.

elliejjtiny · 15/09/2023 02:00

Dc1 - didn't go
Dc2 - 90 minutes
Dc3 - nearly 15 hours
dc4 - 2 days
dc5 - nearly 16 hours

octoberfarm · 15/09/2023 16:28

37 minutes for my first (😬) and about 7 hours for my second, but I think the epidural probably slowed me down.

teraculum29 · 15/09/2023 16:35

AT 8am I went to hospital, been put on monitors for 2 hours and I've been told to go home, take the paracetamol and bath to ease the labour pains and if the pains are more often to come back.
I got back 2 hours later about 12ish, and at half 3 my daughter was born. (first and only child).

so overall all 5-6hours

annlee3817 · 15/09/2023 23:50

DD1 I think I got to the hospital around 3am, onto the birthing unit at 4am, she was born at 7.17am

DD2 induced so five days from when that started 🙄 actual labour length five hours

ILookAtTheFloor · 21/09/2023 16:03

My eldest I got to hospital at 4pm, was 8cm dilated and had her at 8:30pm- I'd been pushing for ages as she was back to back. I was discharged a couple of hours later!

My other two were home births due to the above!

Mrsmch123 · 21/09/2023 22:51

4 hours. The first hour and a half I was in the induction suite as waters has broke the day before but I was allowed home. Checked once clerked in and I was already 6cm and moved to the delivery suite.

Missedmytoe · 21/09/2023 23:02

I've only got the one. Went into labour on a Monday evening. Got to hospital Tues am. Emergency C-section Thurs am.
All in all, quite tiring.
