Hi everyone
Started having contractions at about 7pm, only coming every half hour or so so went to bed before 10.
Don't know how often they're coming (still not very often) but I can't sleep through them now. Plus they seem to go on for ages - I thought at this early stage they would be fairly quick.
I don't really know what I want to know except I thought I'd go to sleep and they'd be gone by the morning (was expecting to go 2 weeks overdue). Does this sound like it, or will it probably go on for the next 10 days?

I have to say this is the first time in the last 6 months I haven't felt like stuffing my face with chocolate. That's quite worrying in itself

If you're not in hospital, go for a loooong walk tomorrow (but close to home)!

butterflywings · 26/04/2007 00:49

To be honest, the chocolate did make me feel a bit yukky but I hadn't eaten much that day - I just couldn't face it
And walking is a very good idea. I found that walking down stairs helped me. But not up them... Strange.

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 00:51

Well, I had a couple every 6/8 minutes, I now haven;t had one for about 12, so I think I'm going to see if I can snooze on the sofa.
Thanks for the advice everyone will update you next time I'm up or in the morning ow another one

Aww, ok then
Night night and good luck!

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 02:28

If my contractions carry on at every 7 or 8 minutes as they have been since about 1am, should DH go to work tomorrow? He works about 40 minutes away, but I don't want him to use up his paternity leave if this could go on for days.

OP posts:
misc · 26/04/2007 02:39

I wouldn't want him to go to work if I was you, how exciting I don't think you will have long to wait!
How are you feeling now?

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 02:43

Well they're coming just as often but not as intense Before I really had to concentrate as well as walk, now I just walk around and can cope like that.
So I don't think anything is urgent. I know what you mean, I don't want him to go and leave me like this, on the other hand his work are really good, he'll leave the minute he has to, and it seems a pity for him to waste potentially loads of paternity leave to rub my back and watch DVDs while I pace up and down!

What are you doing up at this uncivilised hour anyway?

OP posts:
Katy44 · 26/04/2007 02:44

But thanks for responding - that wasn't meant to sound quite so ungrateful!

OP posts:
misc · 26/04/2007 02:49

Yes I really shouldn't be up at this time and you are going to wish you hadn't asked why now..........

My dog has an upset tummy and has woken me up because its making such horrible noises I had to go and let her out, poor thing!
Dh has of course slept soundly through it, much like he can with crying babies!

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 02:51

oooh Hope your dog's better in the morning

OP posts:
misc · 26/04/2007 02:58

thanks although I haven't got much sympathy anymore as I've just gone into the kitchen and found the empty packet of biscuits she scoffed before she came to bed, I must have left them on the side after going to the shop!
on another matter this your first baby then?

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 03:05

Well that's good, at least there's nothing really wrong. My Aunt and Uncle's dog once opened a cupboard door and ate all my cousins' easter eggs!
Yes, first baby so I haven't got a clue hat to expect! Am trying to just go with it and assume that if I can cope with the pain then nothing can be that urgent.

not feeling like going to sleep then? Do you know what you are having or will it be a suprise?

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 03:10

I try to sleep between them but don't normally get to sleep before the next one wakes me up, but still relaxing so not too bad. I need to walk when they're happening.
We're having a boy and can't wait to meet him He's been kicking loads, I hope he's not too scared by what's happening! Either that or he normally kicks at this time and I sleep through it!

have you thought of any names yet, my youngest spent four days as baby x because we hadn't thought of names yet
he was 9 wks early though!

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 03:16

Yes, we're calling him Tristan, it's DH's middle name and the only one we both really loved. We have been discussing names since before I got pregnant though so we should have come up with something by now
Baby X is cute - were you not tempted to leave it at that??

OP posts:

Great name...my husband is called Tristan! theres not that many about though.
we chose elliot in the end thought people might just think he was illiterate signing x on forms

maveta · 26/04/2007 03:22

Hi Katy! I´m still here too.. small confession.. been having contractions/BHs all night too.. just don´t really want to say it out loud for fear of jinxing it

Went to bed at 12.30pm.. got up for a bit.. went back to bed..got back up..went for a bath but felt too sleepy so got out and have been lying on the sofa and dozing between each one. Coming every 5-7mins but not so painful that they stop me iykwim.. really really don´t want a long drawn out pre labour that goes on for days so been trying to ignore it but its just uncomfy enough that I can´t go to sleep.

Just got up from the sofa again now wondering if I should wake dh to help me put the TENS on or not...

maveta · 26/04/2007 03:23

ahem. 1230am that is..

liath · 26/04/2007 03:24

Oooh excitement . Hope things get going Katy & Maveta. Just been feeding ds, waiting to see if he wants more or is going to go to sleep.

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 03:25

misc, does your DH find that when he tells people his name they think it's Kristin or Justin?? I know Tristan isn't common but I didn't think it was that rare!
maveta - CONTRACTION BUDDY! I was wondering the same thing about the TENS. Sounds as though we're at the same stage, mine are coming between 5 and 12 minutes (but sometimes I ignore ones that don't actually get me on my feet) and I can cope by breathing and walking around. Are you going to send your DH to work?

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 03:27

Hi liath!
I think I'll still be here in May

Katy44 · 26/04/2007 03:28

Just watered my plants on one of my walks around as that's probably the last time I'll remember until some time in June
