Anybody up? Think I'm in labour...

I'm having contractions about every 6 mins, lasting about a minute each. I've sent DH to bed to try to sleep and I'm up watching a Friends dvd! Anyone around to keep me company? Feeling a bit scared and not sure I can do this. (First baby!)

I had something similar to this but I went into labour the night before my induction date. When I got to hospital they said I was already 5cm and because my contractions were all over the place they induced me anyway. (best thing ever! It hurt but it was nice to know I was getting help)
Good luck op

SpottyTeacakes · 27/03/2013 17:58

Oh Nut I think you might have a clear out coming on. They're all good signs though!

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 27/03/2013 18:03

Oh OP I'm really feeling for you, I remember the vomiting it was horrible but definitely a good sign despite its yuck-ness!

Its hard to believe it now but in a day or two this will all be over and instead you will have a wonderful squishy little boy to cuddle instead. Have you been able to have a bath? I found the water a huge help with dd2's birth and even if you can't sleep just a bit of relaxing and hopefully a slight easing of the pain will do you good.

Fingers (and toes and arms and legs!) crossed for you that things speed up again tonight :)

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 27/03/2013 18:03

On second thoughts perhaps not legs crossed, that could be counterproductive Wink

Badvoc · 27/03/2013 18:06

Ah, you poor thing.
But the ladies are right, vomiting and runs can be pretty normal for early labour aNd a good sign.
And remember...Each contraction is one more you will never have to have again! :)
Have you tried a warm bath? Or do you feel worse when you lie down? I know I did.
I spent both my labours on a birth ball with my tens machine ramped up to max :)

SoYo · 27/03/2013 18:23

Just remember if you feel it's all getting too bad you can ring labour ward again & tell them you're really struggling. Sometimes they'll admit people in early labour & give them a pre-labour dose of pethadine so they can get some rest. Not ideal & definitely not what some people want but sometimes very useful!

Have you tried lying down for a rest at all? Even if you can't sleep you might get done rest at least. I had a bath in early labour & it really did help.

Really hope you're ok. Smile

glorious · 27/03/2013 18:57

oh nut you poor thing. My labour with DD 8 weeks ago was like that. You just do whatever you can - moving does help but I know how hard it can be. In the end I was given some codeine and a big sweep at 2cm after about 36 hours and then had a huge strop which seemed to get things going. They let me into the birth centre at 3cm and I got my hands on the birth pool which was bliss even though I had to have it very shallow at that stage. So they may help if they have room.

From 4cm it was only 6 hours which isn't bad for a first baby and I can honestly say the long slog to 4cm was by far the worst bit.

So you are doing brilliantly and you can do this.

FairPhyllis · 27/03/2013 19:22

Oh nutbiscuit I'm so sorry you're having a rough time. Can you get any rest at all? Or eat something, to keep your energy up? Send DH out for glucose tablets?

Would they let you go in for a sweep to see if that would kick things off again?

Jojobump1986 · 27/03/2013 20:15

How are you doing now nut? Just reading this thread is giving me braxton hicks! I think they're sympathy contractions! Grin

NutBiscuit · 27/03/2013 20:33

Hi everyone. No real changes to report I'm afraid. Contractions regular at 9 mins.
Phyllis i haven't been able to rest really, lying down is really painful so standing up most of the time which is really tiring. Just had some plain pasta for dinner which I hope will stay down!

Good luck with babynut Smile

yawningbear · 27/03/2013 20:43

Good Luck Nutbsicuit, I know its horrible but it is so worth it in the end, first hold of your beautiful babyNut and all this will be forgotten. How about trying a warm bath?

StrawberrytallCAKE · 27/03/2013 21:23

I have been lurking. Just wanted to wish you luck, you sound like you're doing so well. Brew

HelloBear · 27/03/2013 22:48

Good luck Nut! My 2nd labour started and stopped so annoying!

In the end I hid in my bedroom with the lights out and chill out music on, just relaxing and trying to not think about it. Did not sleep but my labour gradually kicked in! And my lovely DS is fast asleep beside me now.

Your DS will he here soon, so exciting! Keep the faith!

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 27/03/2013 23:02

Just checking in to say I really hope tonight's the night for you nut I'm off to bed now but may be back in the early hours if dd2 decides I've had enough sleep for one night, will be back to see how you're getting on.

Positive, active, baby related thoughts coming your way :)

twinklesparkles · 27/03/2013 23:09

Evening :)

Hope your baby is soon, good luck :)

LadyMetroland · 27/03/2013 23:22

How are you doing nutbiscuit?

My first dd's birth began like this. It's so hard. Keep us posted.

Agree with those upthread about baths. Really helped soothe some of the pain

Gruntfuttocks · 27/03/2013 23:28

Hello again, sorry you've had a rough day. Hope things are moving along for you. No news good news?

NutBiscuit · 27/03/2013 23:34

More like no news, no news I'm afraid. Contractions are getting more painful but no closer together. Starting my second night sitting up in front of the TV but just cannot get comfortable.

Anyone know if anything could be happening down below with contractions this far apart? Just want to go to hospital in the morning and beg them for pain relief but dread being told I'm still at 2 cm

Nut i hope your managing to get some sleep even if its only cat naps. I know this sounds like a weird thing to say but try to enjoy every moment because in a few months you'll look back and wish it was all happening again. Like i said every contraction is a contraction closer to meeting your LO. Grin

halestone · 28/03/2013 00:59

Oh and i forgot to say that yes every contraction you have is doing something, even if it's only pushing your baby down slowly into a position where he or she can apply better pressure to your cervix to allow better dilatation

SpottyTeacakes · 28/03/2013 03:52

Hope things are going ok. Hales is right, every contraction will be doing something. Hopefully you've got some rest. In my second labour everything stopped for two hours so I could get some sleep before coming back with a vengeance!

glorious · 28/03/2013 05:37

Hi nut, yes as others have said every contraction is doing something even if it doesn't feel like it. You will get there and if you're anything like me you will feel much better when things really kick off as the end will be in sight. But if you need to rage in between then do - after staying very calm for the first two nights with hypnotherapy it was my tantrum that got things going and I did calm down again Smile

Anyway I hope you are well on way now and too busy to post.

TheTiger · 28/03/2013 05:43

I hope things are going well for you, and you will be back soon with good news! Come on baby Nut!

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 28/03/2013 07:35

No news for a while hope that means things are finally on their way.

Good luck, hurry up baby nut!
