Anybody up? Think I'm in labour...

I'm having contractions about every 6 mins, lasting about a minute each. I've sent DH to bed to try to sleep and I'm up watching a Friends dvd! Anyone around to keep me company? Feeling a bit scared and not sure I can do this. (First baby!)

Ooh good luck. Am awake feeding my 5 mo DD so remember the feelings of trepidation and excitement well. I also sent my DH to bed as he was getting on my nerves was better off sleeping and saving his energy. Good luck!

All sounds excellent. Don't feel you have to call yet if you don't want to. As you say you're very close by & you're doing brilliantly on your own. Stay in your little bubble as long as possible as going in too early can throw things off a bit (to do with change in hormone balance in unfamiliar environment when nervous) but if you're properly established in labour it doesn't have the same effect.

Don't worry about the 14hr bit, I felt like it flew by! I think because you're doing something & your mid is occupied you don't realise how quickly time is passing.

I did feel a bit like you in terms of the bubble thing too, but I have a DH that's very grumpy quiet so was just a presence in the room without being chatty or interfering. Just sat & read a book & got involved if I asked. Usually it annoys me how he doesn't do a lot without being asked but I have to say it was perfect at the time!

Glad to hear you are still coping ok! Awake here with 5 month old DD2!

I would phone the hospital now. Give the MWs a heads up so they can begin to address any staffing issues for the morning. Its not really your concern but perhaps just get it out of the way now?

Hi.

I'm currently 33 weeks preg with number 2 and sleep seems to be a distant memory! Like you I'm having a boy and can't decide on a name, have been telling people we're calling him Rincewind, off of my fave terry pratchett novel.

Hope your doing ok, I remember not being sure if I was having 'real' contractions or not, my waters breaking finally convinced me I probably was in labour though.

I too loved my TENS machine, DH not so keen after he 'shocked' himself while helping me adjust the pads. Made me laugh tho. I also quite liked being in my own bubble, DH (with good intentions) drove me mad fussing, to the point where I wrote him a long shopping list of things we 'needed' and packed him off to the supermarket.

Def try and eat, wish I'd eaten more when in early labour was ravenous by the end!

Hi all, nope still at home, not much change really, contractions still every 3-6 mins. Getting more intense when they do happen though....reckon I'll be off to hospital soon!

Hi NutBiscuit - exciting stuff! My midwife had me on a ball at the stage in both my labours as I was also labouring like this through the night and i wasnt getting any sleep - so upright and bouncing during contractions, but resting leaning head and arms on a pillow on the sofa arm in between. Just thought I'd pass on the tip. Very happy for you that will soon have newborn cuddles!

Just got a chance to check back in, I'm actually down under in Perth, WA - but I'm normally up for a few hours in our nighttime due to pregnancy insomnia! I'm sooooo looking forward to the end of that and heartburn, pelvic girdle pain, etc etc!
Hope you are doing ok, and once nut biscuit jnr arrives please come back to tell us all his name!

Hi all, well, I went to the hospital but only 2cm dilated so they sent me home again. Really disappointing. Just been sick too so not really enjoying this much at the moment!

You are still doing really well! Being sick is a really good sign I promise, my midwife told me some people sick their baby's out my labour really ramped up once I was sick

Morning nutbiscuit how are things feeling now?

We're at the ILs in Cormwall now after a long drive, I kept wondering how you were getting on. Being sick is a good sign things are making progress, and the fact you've coped so well up to now is really great.

Keep us posted, exciting times ahead! :)

Morning Eeyores. All a bit disappointing really. contractions have slowed to every 8 mins, although they seem more painful than before. Glad you got down to cornwall ok, and thanks again for thinking of me

Just remember that before your cervix can dilate it has to soften, flatten & come forward so even at 2cm it will have already done a lot of hard work so not one of those contractions was in vain. It may feel never ending now but it will soon be a distant memory & so worth it!

Morning, just caught up on the thread. Don't be too disheartened mine did the same, I tried to snooze for an hour then went for a long walk round the hospital up and down loads of stairs doing the crab walk I was 5cm at the time but it got things going again. I think you'll have him today, my friend made sure she had a shower, washed her hair and painted her nails () at this point. Her DH painted her toenails too!

Oh, poor you :( I know how disheartening that is. I did exactly the same with my first baby. I was convinced that I'd get to hospital and they'd say I was 9cm or something. I was 2cm.
