Anybody up? Think I'm in labour...

I'm having contractions about every 6 mins, lasting about a minute each. I've sent DH to bed to try to sleep and I'm up watching a Friends dvd! Anyone around to keep me company? Feeling a bit scared and not sure I can do this. (First baby!)

Hi Phyllis! I do indeed have a whole bag of snacks for the hospital....but really? Not allowed to eat once I've had an epidural? This is terrible news! Do you know why that is?

Stupid question number 100...I'm not feeling any pain in my back at all, it's all round the front. That doesn't mean these aren't real contractions does it? Everything I'm reading talks about pain radiating from the back!

Yep Cornwall, luckily lots of relations to visit so won't be attempting the beach although DH is nuts enough that he'll probably get his winter wet suit out and go surfing

How exciting! I'm getting to meet my little girl tomorrow - a csection though.

If it helps, I like all those names at the top of your list. We've got about 4 names in the mix for us and we are going to decide once we meet her which one feels 'right'.

Sorry, can't answer that one! I'd have thought they're real contractions but maybe it's worth calling the midwife?

I'm heading to bed now. You're doing so well and will check in when DS wakes for a feed or first thing in the morning whichever is sooner. Keep focused on the newborn cuddles you'll be having very soon!

Ooooh! Exciting!

Hi! You are doing brilliantly, I would think about googling that number and phoning now though, I honestly dust find contractions that bad, to the point where the midwife refused to examine me, when she finally did after I insisted, I was 10 cm already!

Try and eat something, bananas are good. Don't, for the love of all that is sacred, eat anything you really enjoy as you'll never be able to face it again. I learnt that the hard way with Jaffa Cakes!

Have your waters gone yet?

LadyFlumpalot, no, no waters as yet. Really hoping they don't go over my carpet! Good tip about the food, I already have a load of stuff that I used to enjoy that I can't eat any more because I survived on it during the morning sickness phase, I don't need to add anything to that list now!

Sit on a big towel? Mine went in bed, woke me up with an almighty fright!

I'll be up for a while, I expect, am 15 weeks myself and woken up with heartburn and twiddly legs. Turned to Facebook to bore me back to sleep and was confronted with lots of pictures of scary clowns so am definitely not sleeping now!

Have you googled that number yet?

As I understand it is because having an epidural slightly increases the chances of needing an EMCS with GA, in which case it is safer to have an empty stomach as pregnant women are more likely to vomit with a GA. But you should be allowed to have clear fluids and maybe suck on sweets.

So get your strength up beforehand if possible! I will check in on you again after I finish drying my hair.

I'm thinking, because you haven't posted for half an hour, that you are possibly on the phone to the hospital, or maybe even on your way.

OK, I've had a banana. Reckon I'll give it til 5 o'clock and then call the hospital. Sorry to hear you can't sleep Lady, pregnancy is rubbish for getting a good night's sleep, isn't it? I know exactly what you mean about the clown photos - where have they come from?!

Oh hello!

It's a "share this if you have friends who hate clowns" thing. Apparently, lot of my friends (and I) hate clowns!

It really is. I didn't suffer with bad sleep til I was at least 30 weeks with DS. Irritated its hit this early this time.

Morning NutBiscuit, how are things?

I'm up feeding my 4 week old baby so was very recently in your position (although I was doing all of this bit in hospital as got induced).

I never had pain in my back either which was a good thing as Bubba was in exactly the right position from the beginning so don't be worried about not having, back pain is more associated with back to back babies.

I loved the TENS too. I did this bit of TENS & paracetamol for about 14hrs & was gradually getting worse but coping fine & didn't get really strong until waters broke but by then was 5cm.

The best time to go into hospital is when you first suspect you're starting to want more pain relief or start feeling that you're not coping as well.

It's completely reasonable to get your DH up anytime too. I did the same & let mine sleep the first 8hrs but after that was glad he was there for leaning on & general distraction. Plus he can make sure bag's in car, car seat in car, fetch your notes etc.

Hi nut im back rather earlier than planned! Glad you are still coping so well!

I was always told you need to go in when the contractions are every 3 minutes, or 3 in 10 minutes. I really think it may be worth waking up DH and getting him to ring for you!

I was dreading being told i was 1cm, especially as they kept saying 'its your first baby, it could be a long time', anyway i was 6cm! I got in the birth pool and he came 5 hours later.

Contractions dont last for more than a minute, i found it helpful to count through them when it was bad, so when i got to 30 i knew it was on the way down.

How are you doing now? Lovely boys names by the way. Thomas and Dylan ate 2 of my favourite names, but both taken by family members!

Morning SoYo - that's all great to hear - thanks! (Except perhaps for the 14 hour part ).

OK, good to know I'm not completely crazy staying away from the hospital at the moment. Just so confusing, contractions are coming every 4 and a half minutes but don't really feel like I'm not coping at all - the TENS really is fantastic! Thankfully we're only 5-10 mins from the hospital so not too worried.

I'm actually quite please DH is asleep, I think I'm one of those people who copes better on their own when in pain, I just want to be in my own little bubble, although he would be handy for food and drink supplies!

Oooh exciting. Only my second live birth.
I am in Malaysia so it's just gone 12.30 now.
Have you phoned the midwives yet? or called your DH?

Hi again Tiger! Still doing ok thanks, DH normally wakes up at 5 anyway so expecting him to make an appearance soon. That's really good to hear about the length of contractions, I've got one of those timer apps and I know what you mean, it's really helpful to see it get to 30 secs and know the contraction will be over soon!
