What time did you go in to be induced?

Hospital want me to go in at 5pm on Friday.

I don't want to. I want to go in on Saturday morning.

Is there any reason they want me there overnight? Will ring hospital in the morning to clarify (couldn't face asking more questions of dopey consultant today!), but just wondered.

From your experience, are they likely to start trying to induce me on Friday evening? Or first thing on Saturday?

(Oh, and some "go into labour naturally" vibes most welcome - thank you!)

Did you see Miaou's ooooohhhhmmmm thread HM?

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:03

Midwife assistant today asked if DH would be getting in the pool with me - PMSL! I know some men do, but DH is NOT one of them!

Can you imagine????

Cerrrrrringe!!!!!

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:05

Gah! No, probably the Thank Crunchie thing, I think. Or just that if I don't make a concerted effort to think about other things, thoughts of choc waft into my mind...

Oh, MD, what on earth is a man with a labouring partner doing getting his tackle out near her?! Asking for trouble!

Midwife who did our parentcraft last time said it was fine for men to get in the pool (I say men, I mean just the one, obv), but if they could please wear trunks, it'd make her job much easier!

god that was boring
the things I do for you hunker
YES get yourself to the community midwife and get her to poke around for you I would
YES insist on going in on Saturday if you want
I know it's better for childcare (prob) but \i would wait till Sunday night/Monday morning - mor chance of seeing a consultant.
can you ask to see a consultant you know and like (Elizabeth I think you said) and get her to write on your nores:
scary woman
hands off
limited intervention
water birth if poss

that might help to stave off the scaredy cat midwives and loopy doctors esp at the weekend

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:09

Thanks, sweet - will keep you posted x x x

moondog · 18/01/2006 00:10

Love the word 'tackle'!!!

Said m/w said that it would always get them giggling in the kitchen, especially when boiling up water to keep the pool warm (home births now).
Lots of 'Mind where you pour that water' and childish giggling and smirking.

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:11

True, hadn't thought of it being mid-weekend. Had DS there on a Saturday and that was fine, but didn't appreciate how lucky I was with his birth (apart from the yards of stitches I had!).

Oh, who knows? Will just have to go into labour tomorrow, I think. Much easier

Thanks for thread-wading, HC

Switch mobile to loud ring tone

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 18/01/2006 00:22

HM - yes I started quickly, but wasn't even 3cm until about 9pm. Gas and Air worked for a while, then about 9pm they gave me a shot of pethidine - fantastic for the 1hr it worked, gave me another about 11 - didn't do a thing. About 12 set up the epidural, didn't work, topped it up numerous times during the night, but only worked partly on one side, and not at all on the otherside. About 5am (I think it was) the anaethatist (sp) said she'd given me the highest dose possible and I could't have any more. DS2 born at 12.18 that day, with forceps (thank god the injection they gave me to 'numb' me down there partly worked) - but they then refused to give me any more painrelief when stitching up my episitomy and 4th degree tear !

Squarer · 18/01/2006 00:49

Just adding - my presence was requested at 5pm, and "induction" started around 8 I seem to recall.

I can understand the food phobia - luckily I only had the breakfast to endure (a bit of cereal and a loaf of toast ) but pmsl at the pork fat and smash - sounds all too familiar [blee]

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 08:58

May not need to be induced after all, she said, somewhat cryptically

pupuce · 18/01/2006 09:15

Hunker ??????

sweetkitty · 18/01/2006 09:16

Oh I remember the food as well, what is it with Smash? Everything was out a packet and you had to go leave your baby to queue up for food and it was like no one had seen food in a week they were like starving. I got DP to make me sandwiches and bring them in. Coupled with the absolute no sleep and everyone popping round the curtains every 5 mins can you tell why I'm having a homebirth this time? Hated being in hospital with a passion.

HM - I have a plaster allergy as well, not as severe as yours I just come up in a bright red rash!
