What time did you go in to be induced?

Hospital want me to go in at 5pm on Friday.

I don't want to. I want to go in on Saturday morning.

Is there any reason they want me there overnight? Will ring hospital in the morning to clarify (couldn't face asking more questions of dopey consultant today!), but just wondered.

From your experience, are they likely to start trying to induce me on Friday evening? Or first thing on Saturday?

(Oh, and some "go into labour naturally" vibes most welcome - thank you!)

i reckon, and this is from NO experience, that they will start you on friday night... because the gel and stuff takes a while to start working right? so maybe they give it to you and then hopefully by morning you're in labour??????

pupuce · 17/01/2006 20:31

Hunker... sorry not followed what's happened to you ....
I know it isn't your 1st.
Can you tell me how many weeks you will be and if they have tried a sweep before ?

tortoiseshell · 17/01/2006 20:31

I went in 10 am Saturday

starlover · 17/01/2006 20:31

btw... i know of several people who went into labour the day before induction was due. i started the day before my appt with consultant

Hulababy · 17/01/2006 20:32

Wednesday. Went in after dinner, about 6pm.

pupuce · 17/01/2006 20:33

Starlover - yes that's what I thought but Hunker is probably going to have her waters broken and no gel... and if that's the case if labour doesn't start in the following 2 hours she will be given the drip.... and that will get her going.... hence my question about dates and what they ahev tried up to now...

Milliways · 17/01/2006 20:33

I was already in hospital (for DD), but saw other Mums coming in the night before. Suppose it is easier to do all admin etc then, and make sure you are starved

With DS, was due to go in on Monday for induction & he came in 1.5 hours total labour on the Sunday.

Good luck.

FrumpyGrumpy · 17/01/2006 20:37

The vibes, the vibes, the vibes, honey THE VIBES!

Wanted me to go in at 8am and I said bugger off I'd like to drop dd at nursery first and I'll be in around 10am! They said ok.

I think go in when you want. It could happen quick, it might take ages so it doesn't matter when it all starts.

(Once I'd had the 'feel around', they said I was already beginning to be on my way and just needed waters broken.)

Luck to you.

hunkermunker · 17/01/2006 20:37

Pupuce, I'm 40+3 today - I have gestational diabetes, so they're being cautious (overly so - was told today that if I go into labour naturally, I can't have a waterbirth - made the consultant go away and check it and he came back saying it was OK).

I had a sweep at 38+3 (because there were concerns about the abdominal circ of the baby from growth scans (I know, a little information is a dangerous thing!) and it didn't do anything.

I think I'll make an appointment for Thursday to see the community midwife and ask her to do a sweep. I couldn't face asking the consultant (bloke, not at all good bedside manner) to have a rummage

I went into labour two days before induction was due with DS (he was 10 days late).

I really don't want to be induced - I'm worried about my limited pain relief options given my previous history.

DS was a relatively quick first labour - he was back to back and the active labour stage was less than 7 hours.

And DS isn't well (he's playing "see how high my temp can go" ), so only had three hours sleep last night.

Have been told they'll break my waters if they can, otherwise it's prostin.

my waters broke on wed afternoon, i was told to come in thurs morning but they didn't start induction till the evening. don't know why, really hated it as dp was sent away and i was left alone on the ward. do they have somewhere private for you to go for induction?

FrumpyGrumpy · 17/01/2006 20:39

OOOoooh and they encouraged me to eat lunch! It was lovely and I enjoyed it and I'd say take it if you can so you've got all your strength.

I brought it up about 9pm but that was well after the dts had arrived! All in all I thought the day would be hell and it was lovely.

Decision was made to induce on Thursday afternoon. They wanted me at the hospital 7 AM Friday morning.

Posey · 17/01/2006 20:42

I went in on a Sunday morning (because they were fully booked for the Monday) at 8.30am. Induction started at 10.30, ds born 9.30pm.

pupuce · 17/01/2006 20:44

What about sex?
I do think they will just break your waters if cervix is ripe already (which is quite possible).
Is it your 1st experience of gestational diabetes ?

FrumpyGrumpy · 17/01/2006 20:44

Aw darling, temperatures to deal with too? Rotten, hopefully the worst night was last night. Will you stay in a bit to get some 'rest'?

cori · 17/01/2006 20:49

I have been wondering how you are doing.
I seem to remember going in to hospital in the evening for my induction too. I think they will probaby give the prostin gel to try and get you started off. They can give up to three doses of prostin gel, 12 hours apart.
Hopefully wont take too long as you have had a previous labour. Do you know what position this baby is in?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2006 20:55

I went in at 7.30am with DD, but was already in labour (didnt know till i got there).

With DD i was kept in after day unit monitoring (was allowed to go home and get stuff) and came back at 5pm.

HOWEVER, i didnt go down to check to see if favourable etc until the following morning because the labour ward was full to bursting. (And by that time i had gone into labour on my own again so just had ARM).

Hope DS is feeling better HM. xxx

serenity · 17/01/2006 20:57

I went in at 7am on a saturday morning, had the gel about 8.30, my waters broken a couple of hours after that and finally had the drip about midday, DS2 was born just after 4pm the same day.

It sounds really rushed, but I had a lovely MW who understood how much I hated hospitals, and was helping me to get out ASAP (I was home the same evening, bliss!)

When they booked me in for an induction with DD (which we beat luckily) I was due to go in at 7am on a friday. Same hospital btw.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 17/01/2006 20:59

I went in at about 9am both times (was induced with both)

I didnt find it too bad Hunker, I was kept informed of everything and had gas and air. The first time I had the gel which took hours too work, the second time my watrs were broke and contractions started straight away. People had scared me by saying how painful it was to be induced but It was alright. Both were short labours too.

I know not every induction/labour goes the same but I just wanted you to know that they are not all bad. I would be happy to be induced again. (actually i would rather be induced as I was able to make plans etc, with ds2 I remember hoping id go overdue!)

Good Luck for friday. I hope everything goes well for you. Maybe take a book to read whilst you are waiting for labour to start, I remember getting very bored just sat there, I even did a cross word!

My msn is [email protected] btw if you want to add it off to watch CSI with dh now. If I dont get to 'talk' to you before Friday, then good luck

I hope your DS feels better soon xxx

kid · 17/01/2006 21:02

I was induced with DD at 7am on a Thursday with gel (24hours after waters had broke). She was born by emergency section on Friday morning at 1:20am

I have to say, I would prefer to be induced in the morning so it gives me all day to progress, I'd be concerned that there are not as many staff on night shift, but what do I know!

misdee · 17/01/2006 21:03

i was in at 2pm ish. was examined and found to be dilating so was taken round to delivery for ARM at 4pm, dd3 was born by 7.30ish IIRC. bit hazy on times tbh.

Nemo1977 · 17/01/2006 21:06

they will probably start induction straight away after the monitoring checks so probably be started by 6.30pm ish. If not dialated each pessary takes 6 hrs before they will give another and also includes hourly monitoring. I was taken in at 4pm with my first and 7.30am with my second.
