What time did you go in to be induced?

Hospital want me to go in at 5pm on Friday.

I don't want to. I want to go in on Saturday morning.

Is there any reason they want me there overnight? Will ring hospital in the morning to clarify (couldn't face asking more questions of dopey consultant today!), but just wondered.

From your experience, are they likely to start trying to induce me on Friday evening? Or first thing on Saturday?

(Oh, and some "go into labour naturally" vibes most welcome - thank you!)

went in to the hospital at 10am, was finally induced at 3pm (after lots of umming and ahhing), contractions were coming VERY thick and very fast by 5.30pm

hunkermunker · 17/01/2006 23:49

Yowch, both of you!

I had a laparoscopy a while ago and told them I was allergic to all plaster - surgeon said never mind, he had funky hypoallergenic spray stuff that nobody was allergic to. After stitching me up, he sprayed some on...cue instant reaction and much frantic wiping of my abdomen, apparently! Woke up with three green flannels resting on me...

went in at 4pm, given pessary at 6 pm, went into labour at 4.40am and had DS2 by 1pm.

hunkermunker · 17/01/2006 23:51

QoQ, this is what I'm not comfortable with with starting labour off at 5pm - am fairly sure I'd be good to go before the morning and it just gets really hassly with childcare for DS and ohhh, I don't know.

PS - if LGJ's reading this thread in the morning - I did try to go to bed early, like she told me, but DS is fretful and has had a nightmare so can't go to bed just yet.

Okay Hunker, you win. But honestly, i wasnt trying to compete with you.

harpsichordcarrier · 17/01/2006 23:53

no, mine wins - clearly

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2006 23:54

Its late, you are tired.........but chill woman!

What if you go into labour all on your own at 5pm? Same problem isnt it? Stop stressing about things that are beyond your control. You'll do yourself a harm lady.

hunkermunker · 17/01/2006 23:55

If I go into labour all on my own, it seems different somehow, plus I have a lot more chance of a waterbirth and I don't have to do as much periphery fretting about pain relief

You attention seeker HC!

hunkermunker · 17/01/2006 23:56

Own up, HC, you were just trying to wax your tache, weren't you?

HM - the umming and ahhing was because they "suddenly" realised (this was 72hrs after my waters had gone) that my cervix hadn't even come forward, let alone soften at that point. They were going to put me on the drip - but then decided they didn't like to do that because it was a VBAC, and I probably wasn't far enough on on my own for it to work. Then instead of inducing me on the maternity ward, they decided I should be downstairs on the labour ward "in case" something happened and I needed an EMCS.

Then they were really shocked when by 5.30pm I was begging for gas and air as they were already so strong - expected it to take a couple of pessaries to get me going as I hadn't got anywhere on my own. (lovely MW that I had REFUSED to let me go into a labour room and have gas and air as I stressed I wanted to remain unmonitored for as long as poss, said if I went in THEN I'd have to be monitored - so kept me out until 7.30).

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2006 23:58

And dont hit me for being so blunt next time we meet.........

I appreciate you are really worried about this, honestly i do.

harpsichordcarrier · 17/01/2006 23:59

did anyone answer your question about ARM hunker? it depends on hospital protocols ime. I suspect not. most places will only "allow" a water birth in bog standard labour
you can always ask to labour in a bath??
do you have a sympathetic consultant (sorry not read the whole thread)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2006 23:59

roflmao at tache waxing!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2006 23:59

I did, I DID!

harpsichordcarrier · 17/01/2006 23:59

christ almighty news of my moustache has reachedy you hunker?
are you of the hairy persuasion too??

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:00

QoQ, incredible you went so quickly! Wish gas and air worked for me!

VVV, be as blunt as you like. I am coming across more worried than I really am, I think - I like to explore all the options so I can be well and truly surprised by the one thing I've not thought of

ps - keep saying to yourself:
it's a long time till Friday
it's a long time till Friday
it's a long time till Friday

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:01

Bubble speaks of my hobbit feet in numerous places on MN, HC

Consultant I saw today was a total arse, but not the one I've seen before. The actual consultant I have, I've not met. I really am amazed at how anti waterbirth so many consultants are though - it's not like you have your feet welded into the pool at the beginning of the labour and don't get out till the end, no matter what happens!

hunkermunker · 18/01/2006 00:02

It's a long time till Friday...it's a long time till Friday...

Now all I can think about is wanting chocolate. How did that happen?!
