Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

growingbump happy anniversary!Smile

good luck all those having sweeps and inductions today!
anyone know how sweeps are performed?Confused Blush

tweakers · 01/09/2010 09:13

that's exactly how i felt yesterday skye... feeling like you're being flooded by hormones doesn't quite cover it! i'm really hoping all these tears are a good sign!

they have to come out at some point but I too am being to wonder!

this may sound a bit strange but is anyone else hearing funny noises coming from their bump? Sounds kind of like a bubble popping

cinnamongreyhound · 01/09/2010 09:22

I never have tweakers but I've seen threads on it here before, so think it's quite common.

I'm taking my walk to the midwife as there's 6 of us and only 5 seats in my car, so will be going at 3pm. Typical the clinic is on a Wednesday and our little town still has half day closing Wednesdays so no cakes for me as baker's will be shut :(

My DH is home today Roz14 as it's the last day of school hols and DSS is with us until DH takes him to school tomorrow, dread to think how grumpy he'd have been if he'd been going to work this morning!

Cosmosis · 01/09/2010 10:45

If crying really was a sign of impending labour, my baby would have been here about 3 weeks ago Grin

Have another sweep booked for tomorrow, have done long walks yesterday and the day before and heading for another this afternoon.

Roz14 · 01/09/2010 11:23

Tweakers - the posh cake shop is just up my street Wink

Sorry that so may of you ladies have been feeling weepy. It really is the hormones!

hello all, I'm still here waiting for sweep to kick in......Had loads more mucous plug come away but nothing more.
DD is off to grandparents in an hour or so as they're breaking my waters in the morning either way [slighty scared smiley] Would love to go into labour spontaneuosly as like most of you, we're stopping at two too and I was induced with DD1 too!

fingers x'ed that we have lots of September babies by the end of the week.

Skye re: how sweeps are done mine have involved my Dr doing a vaginal examination and kind of twisting/scraping/stretching my cervix with 2 fingers...Blush really it's not as bad as it sounds....honest!
And whoever it was googling DIY Sweeps I can't see how you could get the right angle unless DP/DH was going to do it for you!

porcamiseria · 01/09/2010 13:33

pinch, punch first of the month!

GOOD LUCK CAKES

no baby here either. Got worried as had reduced movements, so went to get monitored. baby fine and they were so lovely. They said they will induce me sooner rather than later, and said to go in if worried. It was a rather quiet tense drive there tho.....

all my @I want a natural birth@ is out of the window, I want this baby OUT and in my arms, fxxk the birth, really. I am back to back, and its a big un so would likely ask for an epi anyway

good luck everyone XXXXXX

Will keep my fingers crossed for you inzidoodle and have a lovely day tomorrow, you never know sods law might intervene as you have a nice day planned!

Had a lovely swim, they had all the floats and balls out so lots of splashing around and DH and I raced across the pool pushing the boys on the big floats which gave me loads of BH and the baby was moving furiously so obviously enjoyed himself too Grin

It's such a lovely day here so hoping to take the kids to the park after my midwife appointment.

EmmaRoyd · 01/09/2010 14:41

Had a sweep this morning, really wasn't that bad at all. Midwife was so nice, in fact too nice, when she asked if I was worried about anything the floodgates opened and I just could not stop blubbing. I just cried and cried.

Induction book for next tuesday night and I'm scared. When I was induced with DD it was a different hospital and I had my own room and DH was allowed to stay with me. This time I have to share a room with 3 others and DH will be sent home. I'm shitting myself that it will be like last time and I will go from nothing to full blown massive contractions within about five minutes and DH won't be there.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/09/2010 17:36

Fingers crossed that your sweep works then EmmaRoyd!

Had midwife appointment today, everything is fine but she said that she couldn't even say that the baby's head wasn't engaged that it was totally free :(
Got sweep booked for Tuesday and then will book another 3 days later then induction day or two after that. Really don't want to be induced again so feeling pretty down this afernoon, plus I spent 50mins in waiting room before appointment which didn't help!

EmmaRoyd · 01/09/2010 18:51

hi Cinnamon. I also spent at least 50 mins waiting for my appointment. My babies head is part way engaged and I asked if it should be fully engaged for labour to start. She said that she wouldn't expect the head to engage fully until labour is properly under way. She said its perfectly possible for you to go into labour even if its free. I feel pretty down too. This is my one and only sweep, I was hoping to have two but they don't do that at this hospital. It's one sweep then induction.

EmmaRoyd · 01/09/2010 18:54

oh.. I can't remember who said their midwife recommended castor oil but mine said whatever you do, DON'T drink castor oil, it can bring on sudden violent contractions and many babies born this way have to be resussitated Shock

EmmaRoyd · 01/09/2010 19:00

wikipaedia says...Castor oil has been used to induce childbirth in pregnant women, though it is not always effective in application. Castor oil, when ingested, triggers cramping in the bowel (making it an effective laxative). Thus, it is intended that such cramping extend to the uterus. In an overdue pregnancy in which the mother's cervix is already effacing and partially dilated, this cramping can lead to labor contractions. The irregular, painful contractions of castor-oil-induced labor can be stressful on the mother and fetus.[citation needed] It also leaves the laboring woman quite dehydrated as a result of the vomiting and diarrhea which result when the recommended dose of castor oil for labor induction is taken?2 oz, or about 4 tbsp. This leaves her without access to the energy she could otherwise derive from food or drink throughout her labor process. Using castor oil for induction is not recommended without consulting a medical practitioner and is not recommended in a complex pregnancy.

tweakers · 01/09/2010 19:47

that sounds horrendous Emma!!

oh and it was my mw by the way!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/09/2010 20:09

I only know one person who took castor oil to induce labour, I think most people do avoid it. I had diarrhoea and vomitting through my first labour and I would recommend it as a way to go! Anyway, the woman I know who tried it ended up with emcs as she was too tired to push after being very ill!

A lot of people have said the same to me about engaging EmmaRoyd but I don't want to get my hopes up about a natural labour and end up being induced as I will end up even more miserable about it. I am considering turning it down but then there are so many other things to consider like trekking to the hospital daily for monitoring, especially as I'm still childminding so I would have to take all the kids with me and DH will have to work so I will be on my own with them all while being strapped to a monitor.

tweakers · 01/09/2010 20:15

i don't understand how all but three of us on here are overdue Confused Have we all jinxed each other by moaning about being impatient?!!

curry here tonight!

skyeplusbump · 01/09/2010 20:18

all the babys born were overdue too...i think i should get out of here!ShockHmm

Grin
cinnamongreyhound · 01/09/2010 20:18

We just had chinese, boys don't really like take away curry and I was too miserable after visiting the midwife to cook. Will be having some 'nookie' as the midwife put it though and bouncing on my ball. Still have 10 days before they want to induce me, so will give it all a try!

tweakers · 01/09/2010 20:24

skye that's exactly what i was thinking!!

cinnamon my mw keeps prescribing 'loving with my husband'.

next appt isn't til friday when i'll be having a sweep and she wants to sort out date for being induced....

quite annoyingly the banned pg soft cheese waiting in my fridge is going to be out of date at this rate!

EmmaRoyd · 01/09/2010 20:55

Yes i thought that, not a single early baby on the list! And yet the leaflet I got from the hospital this morning said that only 14 in every 100 pregs to go 42 weeks which made me cry with self pity even more. WAAAAHH!! (bawling emoticon)I don't want to be one of those 14!

I'm going to pick up a birthing ball in the morning, good old freecyle. tweakers I'd eat the cheese, this preg Ive eaten everything Im not supposed to Blush.

Candinha · 01/09/2010 20:55

Still here too just had a quick read of all the news about everyone else. Good luck to all that are being induced soon or having sweeps to get things started.

No news here yet MW coming over tomorrow and said she will do a sweep Confused never had one before so it was nice to read about it here as I was wondering what she was going to do.

My anckle is a lot better today as I they have put a full cast on me so I can put some weight on it and even managed to walk around with only one cruch, and bathed the kids Smile.

Also had a practice at some positions for birth to see what my foot will tolerate and I think on my knees it will be OK. Anyway ladies good luck to all - tonight could be the night Wink

DancingOnMyBladder · 01/09/2010 21:20

Hello all!

You all sound like you are seeing your midwives loads at the moment?? Not me- but then i'm not quite overdue yet. I must be the only one who hasn't had any discussion about sweeps or induction yet.

Ds2 came 10 days early (which was a week ago now!) and i really thought this one was supposed to be about the same. WHY NOT?? DOESN'T SHE LIKE ME???

Anyway enough of the self pity!

Kids back to school tomorrow- woo hoo! Bless them! DS2 starts reception so i'm sure i'll have a little weep!

cinnamon I didn't realise you were a childminder too- I finished last week though- couldn't go on any longer.

Best of luck for tonight everyone- hope we have more babies by the morning.

xxxx

tweakers · 01/09/2010 21:41

well all i've achieved from having DH's choice of curry is indigestion! hey ho
overheard him on phone to his mum, they don't approve of me going for a walk on my own at night (despite me only being a max of 5mins from house at any one point) FFS wish he'd just say it to my face instead of expecting me to overhear (he was in same room when he said it and then blamed me being upset on my hormones)

so dancing, you'd better be sharing that self pity!

candinha you sound so much chirpier about things, i'm really pleased

emma that's great about the birth ball. as for the cheese, its about the only banned thing i haven't eaten! Blush

tweakers · 02/09/2010 03:47

well girls, i really thought things were happening last night! went to bed at 10.15, did some nipple tweaking, had a lower bump cramp, got up at 10.30. for an hour i had regular surges and then they stopped so i went to bed! i'm now up again 3 hours later because i can't sleep but no surges, just can't sleep Hmm
I discovered two useful things about my hour last night though...1) it would seem my body hasn't forgotten what to do which is very encouraging
2) It would also seem that DH in early labour is going to be an absolute pain in the bum (if he's here). He hoovered all of downstairs (to be fair, mainly the birth room but still!), cleaned the kitchen, emptied dish washer etc etc. All very useful stuff obviously but i just wanted quiet and his faffing wasn't helping! oh and he started quizzing me about how and why DS had managed to draw on one of the tables. told him that i would discuss it another time and that now was not that time! i did ask him to stop all his faffing around but he reckons its what he does every night before going to bed Hmm I then pointed out that what i was doing wasn't, and i wanted him to just go to bed in case Pea was arriving and that i needed him awake later on in the morning. I have no idea what time he actually went to bed but it was a long time after me! hey ho, lessons learnt and all that!
