oohhh!!! that looks, erm, interesting!

who's going to buy one first then.......?

it wouldn't be any good for storage though, as the sides aren't rigid

hmmnnnn...jury still out here Confused

lisad123 · 18/07/2011 10:31

wouldnt they cover the lights at back on some cars? surely thats not safe :(
Looks good, though

NerfHerder · 18/07/2011 10:40

They do say you'll need a light board if the crate covers your lights...

Interesting though- I, Like Aitch struggle with the height of a roof box.

VinegarTits · 18/07/2011 10:52

what the video doesnt show is the car slowly starts to tip over an the woman running for her life as she narrowly misses being crushed by a nissan micra

AitchTwoOh · 18/07/2011 11:08

hahahah. i just phoned them to whinge about the price... guy is going to check whether it will fit my car (without lighting rig etc, cannot be arsed with that) and call me back. seemed very nice, actually - they had noticed a spike in their website activity last night so who knows, he may turn up on the thread. he uses it with a mini and reports that it does not tip up like a clown car, so that's good.

and OF COURSE the woman with the Micra is the inventor's wife. behind every great man and all that... Grin

oh and yes sides aren't rigid unless it's on the car, boo. but i believe i heard a light-bulb go off in the chap's head when i asked about it so watch that space. Wink

No Lid???

A British product with no lid? Who are they trying to kid.

Ok now it is less than awesome for me. You email them Aitch and give them what for. You have to have a lid or at least some sort of tarpaulin cover.

Re getting in to the roof box have you tried standing on the car seats to reach inside (or are you a very small person). Even I can't reach to the back so have to stand in the car to organise the stuff, and I am normal-tall.

NerfHerder · 18/07/2011 11:12

Ha! You rang them to whinge about the price?

Real chutzpah! Grin you do make me laugh aitch...

Slubberdegullion · 18/07/2011 11:13

Yo Adrian!

It needs a lid mate. Because of the rain

VinegarTits · 18/07/2011 11:14

it needs to be available in black

can you carry children in it?

NerfHerder · 18/07/2011 11:14

Shock Stand on the car seats? You do take your shoes off, yes slubber?

(disclaimer: I cannot actually reach the roof of my car- when cleaning it, I clean an 8" stripe down each side of the roof Blush)

AitchTwoOh · 18/07/2011 11:14

oh i ALWAYS moan about prices if i can, you'd be surprised how often people take a few quid off tbh. retail is about 2.75 times cost, i like to bear that in mind when chatting to people who own their own business. [theapprentice]

AitchTwoOh · 18/07/2011 11:17

i want it in yellow or orange, actually. green is a bit garden waste-y for me and not as visible as i might fancy. i do hope Adrian is taking notes.

or what about a nice Orla Kiely pear print?

OP posts:
Grumpla · 18/07/2011 11:25

Definitely needs some hi-vis on there to avoid people crunching into it in car parks...

QueeferSutherland · 18/07/2011 11:34

Oooh, nice.

Does it fold flat?
Deffo needs a secure lid.

Slubberdegullion · 18/07/2011 11:36

Nerf, nah, not unless shoes are wet. Car seats already health hazard with crisps and human hair.

Aitch you could customise it with your own high vis stickers.

Lid/covering is paramount.

NerfHerder · 18/07/2011 11:38

Ah- I have a new (to me) car... it is pristine inside, and will stay that way

AitchTwoOh · 18/07/2011 11:41

i asked him about a secure lid, it's something they are working on apparently. what do trailers do normally? are they metal lids? a bit of plastic that could padlock on and get stored under/clipped onto the box when not in use would be great. but i will tolerate a canvas cover so long as it can be padlocked menacingly.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 18/07/2011 11:42

an eyelet at each corner of the canvas thingy would allow for padlocks, surely? i do hope Adrian is listening... Grin

Brilliant invention! THATS what I wanted to see on The Apprentice, clever proper stuff. I look forward to a Cath Kidston print version with lockable lid.

PS We have a special folding step for our roofbox, think it was from the wonderful world of JML.

4madboys · 18/07/2011 12:00

that is GENIUS and totally what we need for our holiday this summer, we already have a roof box, but with 5 kids we need all the space we can get!!

have bookmarked it to show to dp later!!

and re roof boxes we have a 7 seater citreon, so its high anyway and the roofbox is very high, but i leave that to dp as he is 6ft, but it is a PITA with carparks!

Slubberdegullion · 18/07/2011 12:06

Adrian, no one is really serious about pretty print colour-ways on your stupendous invention
are they?

Aitch I've seen both, lockable lids and the tarp with the zig baggy bungee cord attachment. You could make a tarp top but that's not the point. It needs to come with one from the get go.

wobblyweeble82 · 18/07/2011 12:09

I neeeeeeed one! just emailed it to DH - we've a new baby and were thinking we wouldn't fit us and the dog in to go away this summer but look at that bad boy! Grin

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 18/07/2011 12:09

aitch, you should phone Adrian back and ask for a free lid and painted in rainbow colours as your commission for bringing this to the attention of all of MN mums!!

Grin
ChaosTrulyReigns · 18/07/2011 12:19

That's fabulous Aitch.

Thanks for posting and I'll bet tail crate love you, too.

Please a black one, with a lid, and some castors on the bottom to help move it around when it's full and to entertain the DC too.

Wink
