Would you be able to take it on the ferry? I have a corsa, I wonder would it tip over? .

ChristinedePizan · 19/07/2011 15:29

I suppose on the ferry you could take it off and put it where passenger(s) were in the car. And it might be possible to do that if you were going to stop at a service station. Would depend how easy to get off it is I suppose.

I would need a lid. One of my friends once hadn't shut the pannier on the back of her motorbike properly and all her things flew out, never to be seen again. That is the sort of thing that would happen to me Blush

Fimbo · 19/07/2011 15:49

A smaller version would be fab for my bike. I had to balance with one hand this morning whilst carrying a geranium that ds had grown in a small pot at school. I always have pe kits, book bags, lunch bags etc to carry and as ds moves to jnrs after the summer the kit will get bigger!

Fimbo · 19/07/2011 15:51

Oh and I agree with the others Aitch should have one for free with "as recommended by Mumsnet" blazoned on the side. Grin

SpotsMumSally · 19/07/2011 17:01

Maybe wouldn't work so well then, thought it would be handy to shove all of our junk into when travelling over Christmas. I wouldn't fancy having to take it all out on the ferry.

Fab idea though.

Hi all, Scott here again, and WOW, what a reaction!

I've clearly got a lot of developing to do thanks to all your brilliant feedback. I agree a top cover is a must, and in the short term will supply at cost price, which I hope to have by the end of the week. In future, I'll certainly look at how I can include in the Tail-Crate price.

Also, I agree with you all that Aitch has done a fine job marketing Tail-Crate, so will happly send one, including top cover, with my compliments. I'm sure we will all look forward to hearing how you get on.

Thanks again and happy Tail-Crating

TobyLerone · 19/07/2011 17:39

Aaawww, how excellent Grin

Congratulations, Aitch! And I'm sure we will all tell anyone who asks how wonderful Tail-Crate is, as a product and a company, so good job, Scott!

SparklyCloud · 19/07/2011 17:45

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 19/07/2011 18:16

Grin ah the power of MN

Looking forward to your review Aitch!

ChristinedePizan · 19/07/2011 18:21

Scott - I'm really pleased you've done that. I am even more tempted to buy one now than I was before :o

Lougle · 19/07/2011 18:27

From their FAQs:

"The Tail-Crate cannot be used with a trailer, or whilst a tow ball is attached to the back of the vehicle."

Does that mean that anyone with a towbar can't actually use this product? Shock

That would be a big problem.

thisisyesterday · 19/07/2011 18:45

my towbar folds away!!!

so i can still use one!

will wait to see how Aitch gets on before purchasing though!

fuckmepinkandcallmerosie · 19/07/2011 19:09

Bum.... I have a towbar on my car.

GRUMP

Nice one Scott.

Interested in hearing the tester feedback Aitch.

weblette · 19/07/2011 20:35

Really pleased you've got it all up and running Scott!

musicposy · 19/07/2011 20:39

Wow, I'm even more impressed with them now they're sending you one, Aitch! Lucky you.

I'm going to show the link to DH and see what he says. I was out looking at tents today (I'm a bit of a new tent addict Blush ) but the one I liked best, though fairly reasonable, was 52kg in two bags. My first thought was "wouldn't work. I'd have to get a trailer" then I thought, NO! The tailcrate!

Tailcrate, if I put 52kg in it do you think that would be OK? I notice it has been tested to 400kg Wink.

I really need one of these now. :)

Wilts · 19/07/2011 20:55

I look forward to reading Aitch's feedback. It looks great, Dh is not convinced though. Hopefully Aitch will convince him Wink

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 20:56

Grin Grin Grin

(although you know that i am now thinking 'on what will i spend the £150-ish that i had put aside for HandiRack/roofbox/SOMETHING to get me extra room now that i have that covered?' )

and my bloody children are still not asleep. scottish summertime... won't get dark for another two hours at least...

thanks also from DH, he is Very Pleased. Grin

yes scott a FB page would help you alot, when i liked soulpad all my friends looked and when i liked vibram five fingers i had alot of funny comments Grin and i often look at things my friends like. is it free for a business? i set up a group and that was free
and its really good to give atich one.
also have you tried it on a ford galaxy new shape? it would be great for when we go to the 'just so festival' as then i can pop to wales for a couple of days afterwards. when we are at the festival i could just flat pack it and pop it in the car.
whats the max MPH its been tested at?

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 21:44

OHOHOHOHO i believe i have (kinda bodgily) solved the security thing. tell me why this won't work...

my 30ft metal cable, looped through frame and over lid etc then padlocked loosely AND THE PADLOCK PLACED IN THE CAR. this will only work if the cable fits under the door of the car, i suppose. or it could be chucked through the gap when the boot is open and then trapped when it closes. suspect this would be not brilliant for door seals so that would maybe be something that you would do only when going for a wazz and coffee at service station rather than at all times.
