seeing the lockable mesh, and the issue of keeping a lid on, the lid could be held on by the lockable mesh, no?

lovecat · 19/07/2011 08:46

Ooh, I love it! Put a (lockable) lid on it and I'm all yours! DH won't buy a roofbox because of storage issues, but this.... I would deffo buy one if the lid came with it (and could be secured) for not too many £££.

Adrian & Scott, you are geniuses for inventing this and Aitch, you are a genius for putting it on here! :o

mel2005 · 19/07/2011 10:25

wouldnt a thief just unclip the straps and run off with the whole box if it had a locked lid? i cant think if how i could lock it to the car. having had a good look at the car i think the straps would also rub on the paint on the top of my boot as it has a large ridge after the fixings.

Peachy · 19/07/2011 11:10

Wow. We've ahd a similar ish thing (needs towbar but no wheels) made by Khyam for eyars but it has Had It.

Will show dh ta

Peachy · 19/07/2011 11:11

Though dh curently very proud we did all WHitcun week with the bell in our multipla with no roof rack or trailer.

What he doesn;t get is that in future kids would rather bring their legs....

TobyLerone · 19/07/2011 11:14

This is awesome.

4madboys · 19/07/2011 11:22

this is genius! i showed dp who was very impressed! Grin

how about you give/loan, sell them at a reduced rate to the mn on this thread and we can test them out and do a feedback thing for mn or a magazine or something? Grin

4madboys · 19/07/2011 11:31

i am thinking it would be good for things we need easyish access to when going away, like the pushchair, we often put it in the roofbox, but then when we stop on the way its a pita to get out, so am thinking we could put it in there and then it would be much easier to get out, the nipper 360 is fairly light and folds so would fit in, plus the boys scooters, and asorted random crap that you need with 4 boys and a baby!

4madboys · 19/07/2011 11:32

WELL DONE AITCH FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MNET Grin

and also thankyou to the makers of it who have taken the time to come and post on mn :) good customer service already, we could vote you for the family friendly mn campaign! Grin

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 11:40

lol, yes WELL DONE ME! (for, ahem, reading Camping magazine Blush [geek]).

that's what i mean about the appearance of security, Mel, nothing will stop an organised thief, so a couple of sturdy people with knives could have off with it. (it's the same for some of those bike racks as well, i think?)

but given that i was otherwise going to get the Handirack, which also suffers from the same issue potentially, i don't think that it's such a big deal. i would be keeping an eye on the car, i think, in transit, and just wanting it to look like someone had given some thought to security.

longer term, though, a lockable net that secured right through the door frame would solve the problem (although i suspect would be hellish expensive).

has anyone bought one yet, btw? i think i'm going to, tbh. none of the issues are so big for me that it still isn't the Best Thing Since Sliced Bread. (if i can get a lid, that is).

I think that Tailcrate is genius. Just pure dead brilliant.

But it needs a cover and a lock.

And well done to the guys from Tailcrate for coming on here Grin

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/07/2011 12:05

Oooooh. Oooooh. That really is tempting (aside from the painful attempt at convincing DH, who will witter about fuel consumption and packing within our means, pah). BUT - lid. And agree it's a bit steep, given the materials, esp. without a lid. Which clearly we all need. I refer you to Slubber and her Syphillitic British Weather. Grin

The inventor (is anyone else picturing Tom off The Apprentice? Grin) and Adrian appear to have been scared off. Come back, guys! This is helpful feedback you're getting, and it's FREE!

i want future models to have the option of rigid sides (those outwell corner pockets sound great), a solid lid that converts into a low table and have a whacking great MN symbol on the lid. Grin

ChristinedePizan · 19/07/2011 12:10

Want!

Do you have a sub to Camping magazine Aitch? Hmm :o

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 12:14

hah! Grin no, in fact it was my sister's copy... we were out on Sunday on a day trip and as we were sitting brewing up our kettle on the stove she leant over and said breathily "... Aitch, i think we have found the product that you have been dreaming of..."

and indeed she had.

EggyAllenPoe · 19/07/2011 12:19

looks like a great product. what safety testing have you done? i'm not just thiking weight it hols - but also driving at speed ok?

also, does it have reflectors/ lights on the back?

a tarp top would be good enough for my purposes ....but yes a top is necessary for camping rather than 'driving to the tip' purpose.

as a camping product this is very desirable.

assure me of the details! and yes, feedback from MNers that owned one would be a big 'sell'.

weblette · 19/07/2011 12:22

Disclaimer - I know Scott as we live in the same village.

I've seen the things in action and they're brill. Take no time at all to put on, and damn strong.

Really pleased to see it's getting the attention it deserves :D

4madboys · 19/07/2011 12:44

waves to mofo and weblette Grin

weblette · 19/07/2011 13:10

Wotcha 4mad Grin I did consider using it as a child transporter too, #3 was very taken with the idea....

MrsGogginsShawl · 19/07/2011 14:01

I've sent a link to the Tail Crate to my DH, I'm hoping we might get one. It would transform our holidays away, taking garden waste to the tip, even trips to family for Christmas would be easier.

I think Aitch should get a free Tail Crate as commission for getting this on MN! Come on Adrian and Scott! This thread will probably get your more sales than your camping magazine advert will!

MrsGogginsShawl · 19/07/2011 14:03

Adrian and Scott - Have you thought about advertising in gardening magazines? It would be ideal for gardeners to take things to the tip or home from the garden centre without getting soil in your boot.

reelingintheyears · 19/07/2011 14:05

That is fabulous...

I want one.

pettyprudence · 19/07/2011 14:38

Do you think it would fit on my teeny tiny peugot 107 or do you think its bigger than my car?
