Calorie counting for 2026 🎉

Bookaholic73 · 14/12/2025 13:04

I have totally fallen off the calorie counting bandwagon for the last half of 2025, and will be starting again on Jan 1st 2026.

My goal is to reach 64kg, I am currently 77kg.

Is anyone else starting in Jan and would like to join me?

Well done!! That's great!

2 weeks in now. 2lbs lost this week, feeling so good and more motivated than ever. I am doing this for my baby as I want to be the healthiest and strongest I can be for her.

Fantastic loss 👏

Day 4 done ✅

Im really pleased as I’ve usually given up by a few days in 😂

I had a lovely dinner of chicken in a home made Chinese broth with green vegetables added.

@MrsKurzI had 2 boiled eggs and a slice of toast for lunch and I felt that kept me full for ages.

I feel the same!! I never stick to diets at all. I guess I am trying to see this as a lifestyle change rather than a diet and I have found that's really helping! Last night I got to the evening and realised I had only eaten kust under 1000 all day so I made a snack plate, an apple, some popcorn and a malt load mini bar. I don't want to go too hard, I want to try and reach close to my calories and don't want to feel hungry. It was great. Never ever would I normally have an apple in the evening.

Hmmm, still isn’t clear is it? A tablespoon of oil is about 14g fat (and 120 cals) so half that is 7g (and 60 cals) which doesn’t match up with the 1/2 pack nutrition info of 4.5g. I’m fairly certain none of those vegetables contain any fat of note, so it’s really confusing the issue.

I think an email to Sainsburys is in order; they should show the nutrition info for what is actually in the bag, not for once you have added oil in my opinion. I only ever use a tiny bit of oil, a couple of sprays, to stir fry veg so this nutrition info would be wrong for me.

A 100 g of tenderstem is about 38 cals, about the same for mangetout, pak choi even less at 17, so I can’t see how 220g of that stir fry can contain any more than around 80 calories, probably less.

I have emailed Sainsbury’s but no response so far - will update when I have one!

I lost another 1lb this week and my waist has reduced half an inch. Still a long way to go but I think I’m hitting my stride and working out what I can eat within my daily cal limit is becoming more instinctive. My stomach feels like it’s shrinking too - last night I had a veggie pizza (instead of usual meaty one) which I had budgeted for and couldn’t eat all of it, which is unheard of for me!

Hope that inspires some of you new starters - keep going, it should get easier!

Happy2026 · 18/01/2026 21:31

Lost 2lbs
now 13 stone
Next milestone is to see the 12s

Smeegall · 18/01/2026 22:18

New to this and using my fitness pal to track - but I don't like the exercise element because I think it doesn't add up. Is there a calorie tracking app that just does calories?? Also the app is a bit annoying when editing weights of food and doesn't always log

Raisondeetre · 18/01/2026 22:20

I’ve failed this week. Will try again next week.

Nutracheck allows you to change the settings so exercise calories are logged separately from food, so you are dissuaded from eating them.

Argh, I’ve had a really terrible, bingey weekend and I’m full of regret and disappointment with myself 😩

Don't dwell on it, it's done – there's no need to let it derail you from your goal of losing weight. It's not the end of the world.

I say this as someone who ended up in the pub yesterday afternoon at the end of a dog walk and after a couple of pints came home and ate crap. I did log my cals still for accountability and ate 909 over my limit! 😵

Straight back on it this morning though.

pickupzurie · 19/01/2026 07:50

Yesterday was my usual weigh in day, however I am skipping it as I had a long planned event that ran from Friday to Sunday night, and I totally went off script. I am not checking the damage as it wont do me any good,it will be over inflated so I am just moving on from it.That's part of life so I will get get straight back on track today and weigh in next weekend.

ThatsCute · 19/01/2026 07:50

This week I lost 0.75 pounds, so I’m now at 140.5.

I wasn’t able to do any 20 minute brisk walks at my lunch breaks—I was either thwarted by rain or by colleagues moving meeting times last-minute at lunchtime. 🤬 Did 3x 30 minute Joe Wicks classes, 30 min of Peloton Yoga, 30 min of Peloton Ballet Barre, and a 10 minute Peloton Core class over the week. 💪🧘‍♀️🩰🏋️‍♀️

Happy2026 · 20/01/2026 23:09

I’ve wobbled a bit too. I shared chips and curry with a friend at work at the cafe at lunchtime.

Tried to redeem it back by having a 250 calorie dinner: gyozas in vegetable broth. With a 55 calorie yoghurt for afters.

i really want to see the 12s next weigh in 🙏

ETA: the chips and curry were delicious and has given me an idea for Friday night fakeaway!

Happy2026 · 21/01/2026 22:55

Good day today. Dinner was burgers. I had one with homemade chips, iceberg, onion and gherkin salad and healthy Big Mac sauce. Was delicious!

Bookaholic73 · 22/01/2026 10:07

Yikes, I've not posted here for ages! I am still on the CC wagon though!

I've decided not to weigh myself daily, as it messes with my head. If the scales show something positive, i celebrate with food. If the scales shows something negative, i comiserate with food.

So I've decided to only weigh once a month, on the first of every month.

I'm on 1850 a day at the moment. Some days i'm a little under, some days I'm a little over. But it averages out around about 1830ish.

The gym has been going well, but i would like to improve my cardiovascular ability. I can lift weights but get out of breath by walking more than a few miles.

I’m in the 12s!
Next target single figures so 12st 9 🙏

Belladog1 · 22/01/2026 12:39

I'm currently struggling with my bathroom scales which are relatively new Salter scales. I got on them this morning, and it showed I had gained weight. WTF!!!! I have been saintly. I got off, got on again and it showed I had lost a Ib.

Moved them into the other bathroom, got on them and I had lost another Ib. Now I officially have no idea what I weigh and I need a lie down!!

What flooring do you have? If tiling, it works best if the whole scale is on one single tile (which obviously only works if you have large tiles). Do you have another room with better flooring for scale accuracy?

The bathroom floor originally was vinyl flooring ..... a bit spongey. Moved to the other bathroom which has wooden flooring. I don't move the scales and keep them in the same position. But when trying to lose weight, just 1/2Ib is a boost. I'll see what happens in their new position

I would just choose one place and only ever weigh yourself there. Thats what i do. My kitchen floor in front of the sink is where i weigh myself every time. Even if the weight isnt 100% accurate, it shows if I'm being consistent.

That's what I was doing, but getting on them twice this morning, seconds apart, showed two different readings. I've now moved them to the other bathroom and I'll see how they fair there.

I got myself some RENPHO scales from Amazon, and am really loving the extra information, it shows me body fat %, visceral vat etc, so it's giving me something other than just weight to focus on. However as of now, I'm 4kg down since January :) about 14 to go!

ScabbyHorse · 22/01/2026 18:48

Hi can I join, I’m logging everything on my fitness pal.. it’s interesting how many calories booze has. Going to try to keep to 1590 a day and if I go over one day then to eat less the next..

Bookaholic73 · 23/01/2026 12:07

Morning all :) Hello to all the newbies, sorry I've been MIA. I've just been super busy with work.

Today I am not tracking, but i am just being careful with what i eat, eating the same foods and amounts that i usually do when tracking in a deficit.

I find that having occasional days where i dont track (never more than once a week) helps to keep me from tracking burnout the rest of the time.
