Calorie counting for 2026 🎉

Bookaholic73 · 14/12/2025 13:04

I have totally fallen off the calorie counting bandwagon for the last half of 2025, and will be starting again on Jan 1st 2026.

My goal is to reach 64kg, I am currently 77kg.

Is anyone else starting in Jan and would like to join me?

I’m down 0.5 of a pound since my first post-Christmas weigh in on Monday. Had a bit of a jump up on the scales mid-week, but ultimately down from 142 to 141.5. Trying to stay under 1700 and do some form of physical activity every day. Yesterday was Joe Wicks strength training (Joe & Rosie’s Strength Challenge 2), and I think I’ll do another session from that series today. 💪 Onward and upward, ladies!

Well done@ThatsCute on the weigh loss and exercise. I used to exercise at home too but had to stop as my DH kept wondering in asking when he could have the TV back, did I want a coffee, to tell me I looked great, funny, tired, sweaty or just to tell me a dog story....so now I go out for the peace and quite 😅

Morning all,how is everyone doing? Weigh in day has arrived again for me, half pound loss this week, brings me to 6.5pounds down from where I started. The way that I am eating now within my 1200 allowance forces me to cut out a lot of processed foods and sugar and a welcome impact of this is that I am less hungry, no sugar crashes, less cravings so than I can make better food choices. This week I am going to try and get a bit more protein in. For me I think its working well as with the start of January I have very little social activities on, not sure how it will go when it starts to pick up again, I dont want to have to start declining events I want to be able to work around them, what do you guys do for this?

It's difficult but I am refusing to stop social plans. We had lunch out today with family, I had a water where i'd have normally had a coke. I had a normal meal and got a small desert but I have been good all week. I figure i have to allow small treats in here and there because if I don't then that's when I go all out and eat crap all the time. Back to it tomorrow 3 healthy meals and snacks will be an apple or rice cakes.

Happy2026 · 12/01/2026 00:02

I’m ready to start.
I’m around 13 stone and want to lose at least 2 stone.
First target is to get into the 12 stone bracket.
Upping my vegetables and protein intake and cutting out crisps and chocolate!

Belladog1 · 12/01/2026 09:38

First week done. I have been really strict with myself, and I cleared my cupboards out of any treats I had left and walked them to the local food bank.

I am trying to move more. Yesterday I cleaned the house and did some dancing with the floor mop as I went 😅 I weighed myself this morning, and I have lost 3.5Ibs. This will slow down this week as I have my partner coming to stay with me. He is joining me on the diet, and we share our food logs daily and our goals - so although we will be healthy eating, I am sure we will have a few glasses of wine or cocktails.

I’ve had a whoosh this weekend and lost 2lbs since last Monday, for a few days last week it wasn’t budging! Pleased with that as I now have exactly one stone to go

Passingthrough123 · 12/01/2026 19:09

I have a question! Why do packaged stir-fries end up being 150 calories?! I've checked the packaging of the one I had tonight from Sainsbury's and there is no oil or anything in it – so why so many cals? It's just chopped veg! If I added up all the ingredients separately it's about 50 cals, if that.

Which stir fry is it?

Happy2026 · 12/01/2026 23:05

I’ve had a good first day.

I had a coffee and a big omelette for breakfast (protein 💪), made a soup for lunch and had homemade chickpea curry, a soft pitta and salad for dinner. I snacked on a chocolate from the posh chocs I got for my birthday and a couple of breadsticks.

Which stir fry is it?

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference broccoli tenderstem with pak choi, garlic and coriander!

I just had a look at it online and it is 100 calories for the whole bag (160g), so 50 calories per portion if for two people. Where are you getting 150 calories from?

Edited

The weight on the package said 220g.

That must be a different product then as if you look at the link it clearly says 160g. Can you post a link to the product you bought?

ProfessorIDareSay · 13/01/2026 10:05

Looking at the various Sainsbury stir fry products, they say to use 1 tbspn of oil to stir fry; looks like they are including that in the total calories? (It would be about 120 calories).
If so, that’s annoying as I would prefer to know the exact nutrition information rather than have to work out what they have done!

I can do better than that – here's the packaging!

Calorie counting for 2026 🎉
ProfessorIDareSay · 13/01/2026 10:45

Hmmm, still isn’t clear is it? A tablespoon of oil is about 14g fat (and 120 cals) so half that is 7g (and 60 cals) which doesn’t match up with the 1/2 pack nutrition info of 4.5g. I’m fairly certain none of those vegetables contain any fat of note, so it’s really confusing the issue.

I think an email to Sainsburys is in order; they should show the nutrition info for what is actually in the bag, not for once you have added oil in my opinion. I only ever use a tiny bit of oil, a couple of sprays, to stir fry veg so this nutrition info would be wrong for me.

A 100 g of tenderstem is about 38 cals, about the same for mangetout, pak choi even less at 17, so I can’t see how 220g of that stir fry can contain any more than around 80 calories, probably less.

ThatsCute · 13/01/2026 13:27

Yeah, that’s bad. You need to know the nutritional info of the products you bought, not of the possible meal once you’ve added other products (which you might never do, or you may use a substitute product).

MrsKurz · 13/01/2026 21:41

Am I too late to join in? I started with calorie counting using my fitness pal the first week of Jan, I’m 168cm and currently about 80kg, goal is 65kg. No particular time frame would just like to do it sustainably. I’m also doing a 30 day no refined sugar challenge atm, in the second week :)

Day 2 done here ✅

Upping the vegetable intake so roasted some vegetable and had half a plate with my dinner.

Caloriecountskick · 14/01/2026 08:46

Still going strong over here. It's mad how changing your mindset can make you feel more energised. 2 weeks tomorrow since my first weigh in and when I started making changes and I feel full of energy. I know it can't be proper weightloss yet but I do feel healthier for not binge eating at all. We've also adjusted our eating times and are now eating around 8:30, 12:30 and 5pm for our meals. It's stopping me snacking as much as I will have some fruit or corn cake mid morning and the same in the afternoon and I don't feel the need to overindulge as I know my main meal is coming soon after.
Weigh in 2 tomorrow and looking forward to it. Even if it isn't a loss, I am not going to feel disheartened as I feel good in myself which is the main thing.

Happy2026 · 14/01/2026 23:06

Day 3 done ✅

’Fried’ yesterday’s leftover vegetables with leftover potatoes and had them with egg. YUM.

Well done!! That's great!

2 weeks in now. 2lbs lost this week, feeling so good and more motivated than ever. I am doing this for my baby as I want to be the healthiest and strongest I can be for her.

MrsKurz · 15/01/2026 18:57

Well done all! My next official weigh in will be Monday, which will be 2 weeks for me of no refined sugar and sticking to around 1650 cals per day (some days a bit more but have been making good choices overall).

todays the first day I’ve felt a bit “hungry” and like I could binge, and I think it’s because I didn’t eat enough during the day and not enough protein. I notice when I eat a protein heavy meal at lunch, the afternoon is way easier, so I’m going to focus on that the next couple of days

thisisajoke22 · 15/01/2026 20:25

Hi can I join? Managed to shift 2 stone of baby weight from Sept 24-Jan 25. I've then stayed pretty consistent at 10st 7.
I would love to get under 10st but I'm slacking as I'm fairly happy. I lift weights 5 times a week so would love to strip away some fat and see my muscles more. Under 10st would be the lightest I've been for 20 years.
I gained 9.5lbs over Christmas but I've managed to shift 6.5lbs of that already.
It would be amazing to reach target and just maintain for once in my life
