Calorie counting for 2026 🎉

Bookaholic73 · 14/12/2025 13:04

I have totally fallen off the calorie counting bandwagon for the last half of 2025, and will be starting again on Jan 1st 2026.

My goal is to reach 64kg, I am currently 77kg.

Is anyone else starting in Jan and would like to join me?

I'll have a look at Nutracheck thank you. I feel bloated too. So cross at myself

GoodNamesOnly · 27/12/2025 22:42

Sending good wishes to everyone starting now. I can't start until 1 Jan as I am about to go and spend 4 days with family, so will definitely be eating and drinking. I stayed with it up until Christmas Day, but the last two days I have been overindulging in leftovers. I wanted to enjoy it, but also hope I haven't started a new bad cycle.. hoping this thread sets me straight!

I feel sad that so many of us have lost weight and then put it back on. We feel like it is our fault, but there must be more to it than that. That is why I feel like my only long term option is to get my body to understand how many calories it needs. No tricks, just trying to reset.

I will be doing Dry January too, is anyone else? TBH alcohol is a big part of my challenge. I can easily not drink during the week, but in the holidays I drink every day and the calories quickly add up.

I usually go veggie for a few months in January too, but am undecided whether to do that this year. I already eat a lot of vegetables, but on a vegetarian diet I usually end up eating loads of cheese, whereas in the last few months doing calorie deficit I have pretty much avoided cheese.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2025 08:00

@GoodNamesOnly I do dry January, this year I actually did until end April as I was really enjoying it. I sleep so much better and just generally get more out of my weekends when I am dry. I don’t drink in the week but like you, weekends and holidays.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 28/12/2025 08:03

I’ve lost a lot this year but put a few pounds back on so want to get on top of that before it gets out of control. Biggest problem I have is working away a lot so eating out. Can’t judge the calories in the meals. (Not all restaurants/takeaways show calories.)

Lovemusic2015 · 28/12/2025 09:39

Hi ladies, I’m hoping to join you all too. I haven’t lost the baby weight properly. Had lost half a stone since summer but put it back on plus some with Christmas. I’m 10 & half stone & would like to get to a fit healthy 9 & a half stone by summer. Thinking 1600 calories, 100g protein to start & need to watch my fibre as didn’t watch that last time & ended up unwell.

any online / YouTube fitness videos to reintroduce exercise? Will try for maybe 2 a week when kids are asleep as struggle to get to classes at a set time around work / kids. I’ve dumbbells & kettlebells here.

HangryGreyHedgehog · 28/12/2025 10:14

I’m in!
I lost 12kg but half of that has gone back on as I lost my way and motivation.
I use Team RH - £7.99 a month but best app I’ve used.
I’ve got a big sporting event in 4 months and would love to be 68kg - which would be the lightest I’ve been for YEARS…

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2025 10:58

@Lovemusic2015 I did a Caroline Girvan 30 day thing earlier this year, I really enjoyed it, it’s long slow dumbbell workouts if that’s your thing? And you don’t need to lift anywhere near as much as she does, you could start with 3kg and increase if you’re able to. It was her Iron series and the whole thing is on YouTube for free

Lovemusic2015 · 28/12/2025 13:22

@thenewaveragebear1983thank you so much. Looked up Caroline Girvan there & that sounds perfect. 30 minutes is doable when kids are in bed. Don’t think I’d get 5 done in a week but if I aim for 3/4 maybe and get in a routine of doing it. Did you do 5 a week?

Lovemusic2015 · 28/12/2025 13:24

@HangryGreyHedgehogcan I ask about team rh? Is there videos to follow for a workout or is it more calorie counting & nutrition? Thanks.

Bookaholic73 · 28/12/2025 14:37

It's so nice to have so many people joining me.

@GoodNamesOnly i quit drinking in July of this year, and thats when my weight increased, as i ate a lot of sweets and chocolate to cope with the sugar cravings i was getting from not drinking wine. I feel infiniately healthier though, so dont let that put you off.

@Thanksforyourlackofthought i work long hours and find that difficult with food and counting calories, so cannot even imagine the struggles with working away a lot. Maybe start thinking now about what might help (packing food or going for healthier options when eating out).

I have lots of mechanisms in place - early morning walks to get steps in to help negate the amount of time I am sitting in meetings or traffic, taking fruit or protein from the hotel breakfast to keep me going and I carry supplements with me. Unfortunately due to what I do, some of the paces I stay are in areas where the quality of food is not so good so to get a better meal it means going to a restaurant. I've got very good at leaving food and not eating mindlessly but I hate food waste! Ah well, these things are sent to try us aren't they?

pickupzurie · 28/12/2025 15:18

Can I please join you guys for accountability.Currently I am the heaviest that I have been in 10years, I know what happened so I know what I need to do and that's calorie counting. It worked in the past and I'm comfortable doing it. I'm quite short so 1200 is my daily allowance and I track on my fitness pal. I am an avid gym goer so I am just going to mix up my sessions to try to see some progress. My goal is a 14lb loss and my motivation is that im heading into another decade in 2026 and really dont want another year of being fat. I officially started on the 26th and so far on plan.

MildlyAnnoyed · 28/12/2025 15:21

Yes, I will be. I don’t particularly want to loose weight, I just want to maintain.

Bookaholic73 · 28/12/2025 16:48

For full transparency I have not started today. I ended up going over to a friends house for lunch and afternoon nibbles.

So I am actually starting tomorrow. That gives me a week before going back to work for the worst of the withdrawals to be over. I am eliminating all sugar and UPF so I know it’ll be a hell of a week as when I’ve quit sugar in the past I get awful headaches and lethargy.

All of the sugary Christmas foods are out of the house, so there is less temptation.

I’ll be doing some meal prep tomorrow. My plan is to eat the same thing for 2 days in a row each week, so that I only have to track every other day.

OP posts:
socks1107 · 28/12/2025 16:50

I was supposed to be back to it today but the house is full of wine and treats and I have zero self control.
i did a work out and will have to start probably next Sunday tbh. I’m being honest with myself but will try and limit the damage as I’ve sold all my size 14s so I have to be a bit restrained

HangryGreyHedgehog · 28/12/2025 17:43

sorry for delay.
team RH has got workouts, recipes, articles to explain targets as well as tracking capability.

SearchingTheSkies · 28/12/2025 18:11

I’d love to join you all. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and just can’t seem to motivate myself to eat healthily, but I’m determined to get back on track. Calorie counting worked well for me in the past.

Bookaholic73 · 28/12/2025 18:58

So I’ve prepared my breakfast and lunch for tomorrow, as I’m out walking dogs most of the day helping a friend out.
I’ve been craving steak and roasted veggies for a few days so I think I’ll have that for dinner tomorrow. I’ve defrosted the steak.

@SearchingTheSkies its difficult to get motivated to start isn’t it. I find that once I’ve actually started, it’s reasonably easy to stay on track, but starting is so difficult!

Bookaholic73 · 29/12/2025 08:23

Good morning. I’m all set to start today.

I’m just about to have my coffee, and have pre tracked my breakfast and lunch.

OP posts:
pickupzurie · 29/12/2025 08:54

PutTheCakeDOWN · 29/12/2025 09:45

I wanted to start yesterday but there is just too much Christmas food left. It wasn’t realistic!

Strategies25 · 29/12/2025 09:47

I’m in! Very similar position to you OP. I’m 73kg - aiming for 68kg
