Does anyone fancy being my MFP friend?

SmilingandWaving · 09/03/2015 21:03

I've just started using it again but I haven't got any friends on there & don't want to publicise it on FB! I think if I had some friends I'd feel a bit more accountable & less inclined to cheat.

I did see a thread from January where people had given their user names but felt a bit rude adding them without checking first.

Last time I used it I managed to lose about 1 stone but I've since put it back on -& the rest!-

I'm 5'10 and currently 13 stone 8. I think I'm heading for about 11 stone but I've never been a healthy weight (heaviest was about 15 stone 7) so I'm not entirely sure at the moment.

My user name is SophieHQ.

It's awesome haha - like a deep fryer but uses air and a teaspoon of oil and something in the way it circulates the oil in the air makes the food taste deep fried but isn't!

I cook everything in ours, sausages (don't need to add oil for those)
homemade chips and sweet potato fries i just frylite and put them in, anything which you can cook in the oven can go in it basically. but it heats up quicker than the oven which is great if there's just me in!

apparently you can even bake cakes in it but i'm not sure on that one haha!

Testarossa1 · 17/03/2015 15:09

I'm on mfp, well back on it! I'm Shelley378 if anyone wants to add me. Been on 1200 calls for 3.5 weeks and have lost 5lb. I'm aiming for a stone. I've cut out a lot of bread, eating ryvita crispbreads to keep the calories down instead. Lots of raw veg with them at lunchtime. Usually have a caramel snack a jack mid afternoon for a sweet hit. Plus eating lots of fruit.

SmilingandWaving · 18/03/2015 08:13

Hi Rossa, I've added you. Well done on the 5lbs, that's fantastic. You must have some willpower to stick to 1200 a day!

I think I've cooked more recipes from the Hairy Bikers book than any recipe book I've ever owned! The bonus is that DH really likes them too, he really likes the Chicken & chorizo bake.

I had an off day yesterday, felt exhausted all day and ended up getting Indian takeaway! I did manage a quick workout to ease the guilt! but still ended up over my calorie goal. I'm trying to look on the bright side though, I did still work out & I ate the vegetable curry that came with DH's biryani with an aubergine side dish. I did order a chapatti rather than a naan but they forgot to put it in so I had half a poppadom. Normally I'd have a lamb pasanda cooked with wine & cream and a huge naan bread to go with it!

Now I'm going to forget about yesterday and get back on it today!

Well done for your mini victory as well Jumble, sounds like you're doing really well. Have to say the first time I read your post I thought it said mini Victoria and was imagining a tiny cake! I was just thinking 'that sounds lovely' when I realised what you'd actually written!

Not sure about will power! Just trying eat low calorie stuff that fills me up! I do go over 1200 some days, but under on others so think it balances out and as long as the weekly average is under I think that's ok.

SmilingandWaving · 18/03/2015 14:11

Yeah I'm concentrating on the weekly average at the moment after having a bit of an off day yesterday. Normally that would be the trigger for completely falling off the wagon but it's not going to happen this time!!

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 18/03/2015 19:39

Rossa I shall add you when I get on my laptop Smile

Ohh costa do little Victoria sponge cakes and they are yum, but I won't be tempted to them!

Did you enjoy your takeaway Smiling? I think if you did then its ok, it's not like you eat a takeaway every night and you do have to live a little!

I've kind of fallen off the bandwagon today. I had scrambled egg with spring onion, mushroom, spinach and tomatoes on a slice of wholemeal toast for breakfast. Lunch was a bowl of mushroom soup with a warbatons thin sandwich. Then I had half a cheese sandwich that DD refused to eat for her lunch.

I got in from food shopping and thought 'well I know I'm going to go over so I may as well have a sandwich!' And made myself a pâté sandwich Hmm I was hungry but tea is cooking and I decided to sod the calorie counting. Now I decided to log it and with tea included I'm JUST in my calorie range for the day (I had to add some of my walking exercise to make it look a little better)

I know it's not massively bad but I feel a bit disappointed with myself. The cheese sandwich wasn't because I was hungry it was just because it was there. And that's how I got this weight in the first place, by eating things because they were there, just for the sake of it!

Anyway, I'm going to have dinner and if I have anything else tonight then I'll try not to worry. I just need to start afresh tomorrow (and not use this as an excuse to go buy a family size bar of Galaxy!!!)

SmilingandWaving · 18/03/2015 19:59

I did enjoy it, trouble is we'd got into the habit of having takeaway once a week when neither of us could be bothered to cook! It's been taking a toll on finances as well as waistlines!!

I think that's they key isn't it? Just pick up & carry on the next day & accept that it was a bad day.

I'm terrible for picking at DSs leftovers! He's not a great eater either so it's not insubstantial. It's another bad habit to add to my list.

I'm telling myself if I get to a size 14 before my holiday I'll wear a bikini! I've never worn one before so it's now my goal.

SmilingandWaving · 18/03/2015 20:00

Meant to say, it sounds like a pretty good day really Jumble. Your breakfast sounds delicious!

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 18/03/2015 20:40

I'm the same, Tuesdays are normally Dominoes day. We would get 3 different sides and a medium pizza to share Confused it's our 3 year anniversary tomorrow and I'm not sure what we'll do. I would normally say get a takeaway but I think I'd feel too guilty. I would like to go for afternoon tea though as we both have the same day off, that won't be too calorific surely?!

Breakfast WAS good, I had 3 eggs in the hope that the protein would fill me up-which it did!

DD isn't either, sometimes she just flat out refuses to eat anything (except grapes, there's always room for grapes). I tried to distract her with funny faces and in the end resorted to "just try a little bit, TRY A LITTLE BIT!" while she got more and more wound up. Does that child not know how good cheese is?!

God I forgot, I had a bit of pasta too! DD didn't want her pasta and wanted out of her highchair and I ended up scoffing a few mouthfuls. It was that fresh, stuffed pasta. With chorizo Confused

I know it's not the end of the world, I have otherwise eaten quite healthy (I hope!) food. Dinner was a chicken breast with a mix of onions, tomatoes, pepper, mushrooms and spinach in a Philadelphia stir in sauce. I'm not much of a cook and never experiment but I really enjoyed it. Well, it was using a pre-packaged sauce but I shall count that as cooking Wink I just gave in to piggy moments of greed when I could have waited a while or eaten some fruit or something. Bahh humbug!

On a positive note, I got the new SW magazine and I think I'll have a bath and relax Smile

Testarossa1 · 19/03/2015 10:43

I work as a nanny and find myself picking at the boys left overs and and any extra that I don't serve, if I cook to much pasta for example. I've had to discipline myself to put the extra either in a bowl for the fridge or straight in the bin, same for left overs before I get tempted! I have discovered rude health brown rice thins rice cakes, 24 cals each and with a bit of marmite on, (which is practically fat and cals free) they make a nice filling snack. Get that salty kick without the fats and cals in a packet of crisps.

babygiraffe86 · 19/03/2015 12:03

I seem to be hugely struggling to reduce the carbs in my diet and up the protein.

i like bread and pasta just too much :(

arghhhhh! 6 weeks until a tenerife beach has to be blessed with my presence!!!!

Jumblebee · 20/03/2015 11:09

I'm struggling to find good ideas for evening meals that DON'T involve carbs Confused

Yesterday was a write off! Went to za za bazaars for lunch and ate all the wrong things Hmm then a ham and egg sandwich for tea and half a bag of haribo

DP is still with me on MFP and he's lost 4lbs so is happy! It's my weigh in tomorrow so I'm going to be angelic today to try and minimize the damage Smile

babygiraffe86 · 20/03/2015 11:15

Carbs are just so prominent!

managed to reduce but not cut out the bad carbs the last couple of nights.

mussels in garlic with a single slice of garlic bread on Wednesday.

Homemade Kiev with sweet potato wedges, corn on the cob and a salad last night!!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow :) get on the green tea :)

Jumblebee · 20/03/2015 12:21

Well done on stopping at just one bit of garlic bread, I would have eaten half!

What's your recipe for chicken kievs if you don't mind me asking? I need more interesting things to make with chicken and I do love kievs :D

I shall definitely hit the green tea (but only with a little squirt of lemon juice added as I find that it's a lot nicer with lemon)

I've turned my coffee addiction to green chai latte made with water. 98cals so I have to watch how many I have but they're 99.9% caffeine free so would probably be better than my usual tea or coffee before bed Smile

I had scrambled egg with spinach, spring onion and asparagus and 2 rashers of bacon with the fat cut off for breakfast. And my stomach is getting growly! I had that about 2 hours ago so I know I shouldn't be hungry and I'm probably just thirsty so I should probably move my bum from the settee and get a drink. But I feel I need to store up some energy for when I babysit my 2yo nephew this afternoon as he's a little ball of energy!

babygiraffe86 · 20/03/2015 13:04

I'll grab the kiev recipe when i get home, its nothing special - actually from my Grannies old St Michael recipe book (its older than i am haha) but they're lovely.

I didn't use the amount of breadcrumbs it states, and i mix the breadcrumbs with a bit of grated parmesan for a tang - mmmm yum :)

The scrambled egg sounds delicious, I don't have a lunch break on a friday as I get to go home at 2pm :) sounds like a perfect meal for when i get home :)

Good luck with the nephew - they just seem to find energy in the air at that age!!

Jumblebee · 20/03/2015 16:19

They sound amaaaazing! Grin

Well we took nephew and DD to the park and he had me run ragged, he just wanted to go on the slide again and again. Bought them a muffin to share and DD only had a tiny bit of hers, the temptation to finish it off was so strong but I didn't (excuse me while I go polish my halo Wink)

I did go a bit crazy in the pound shop as they had loads of different weight watchers biscuits and stuff. I can't decide if getting some was a bad move or not; they are minuscule and probably wouldn't satisfy my chocolate cravings. I'm hoping they'll give me enough of a hit but I can see it ending up in the whole pack being scoffed in one sitting!

I am definitely enjoying trying lots of different scrambled egg recipes, it's about as adventurous as I go for breakfast Grin I know people say porridge fills you up and releases energy slowly but I can have a 40g bowl of porridge and feel full after I've finished it. But an hour after that I'm guaranteed to be suffering with hunger pangs!

Testarossa1 · 20/03/2015 16:51

I've weighed myself this morning and I've lost another 1lb! Really pleased as that's 6lb over 4 weeks, though mfp seems to think I've only lost 5, I was 10st 8 and now I'm 10st 2, I make that 6 lost!

Yes yes to eggs, I had 2 boiled eggs for lunch with 4 ryvita crispbreads and felt full for ages yesterday. Definitely going to do that again. I've really got into the crispbreads, keeping me away from proper bread.

Jumblebee · 20/03/2015 18:12

Rossa mine has done that before, I've lost 6lbs all together but mine only says 4lbs Confused at least WE know the truth! Congratulations on your loss Smile

Did you have anything else with the ryvitas and eggs? That sounds like a good lunch to make on the go Smile every time I'm at work I'm either spending £3 on a co op salad meal deal or taking in soup which, by lunchtime, is lukewarm! I think eggs and ryvitas would be an easy lunch to have Smile

Just had roast chicken with steamed veg and leftover stir fry veg in Philadelphia sauce, it was delicious Grin might even treat myself to some onken yogurt for pudding!

babygiraffe86 · 20/03/2015 20:11

I was going to have lamb pitta breads but dp turned up with 2 x 8 inch pizzas and chip shop chips :-( I couldn't just throw them away - oops! No alcohol tonight though haha!

jumble will sort that kiev recipe for you when I gets out of this food coma :-)

Testarossa1 · 20/03/2015 20:21

Hi jumble, glad it's not just my mfp that can't add up! Congrats on your loss too! I just had the eggs and some light philidelphia on the crisp breads.

Other lunches I've had have been some salad leaves with chopped cucumber, peppers, carrot, avacado and a small amount of cheese, mixed together and drizzled with either light mayo or balsamic vinegar, again with crispbreads with tuna on or Philly and wafer thin ham. I've also found the Covent garden roasted tomato and basil soup is lovely and only 84 Calories for half a carton, again with either crispbreads or oatcakes. Could you put your soup in a thermos to stay warm?

I'm finding the ryvita crispbreads really versatile, lend themselves to loads of toppings, It's a bonus that they are actually tasty! They do lots of different varieties.

I also do a snack box I take to work with already chopped fruit, usually Mango, pineapple, strawberries, grapes and satsumas, that I can dip into when I get peckish, plus I have a caramel giant snack a jack for something sweet with a cuppa mid afternoon!

SmilingandWaving · 20/03/2015 20:45

Sounds like everyone's doing really well, congratulation on the loss Rossa. Your lunches sound lovely.

I'm trying to stick with salad or soup for lunch at the moment but I'm finding the snacks are creeping back in! I'm going to try really hard to get it back under control over the weekend. I haven't done any exercise for 2 days either! Weigh day is Sunday, I'll be happy if I've lost 1lb this week, I was pretty good up until the takeaway!

Low carb meals are so difficult aren't they? I'm trying to just fill up on veg & ignore the lovely plate of mash that DH is eating! When I was trying to cut them out completely I actually made a pizza base out of cauliflower Grin. It was surprisingly tasty, a bit like a tomatoey cauliflower cheese but pizza it was not!

Does anyone know if green tea counts towards liquid intake? I know tea & coffee supposedly don't, I've had about 5 teas & coffees today and only 2 glasses of water! I've got a book of green tea languishing at the back of the cupboard somewhere.

OP posts:
Testarossa1 · 20/03/2015 22:41

I mix up my lunches a bit or I'd fall off the wagon and be eating rubbish pretty quickly. I'm trying to make sure I have some protein at both meals as I read somewhere it fills you for longer.

Evening meal is usually whatever my dp cooks, whatever he fancies really, just a smaller portion for me.

Yes carbs are hard to avoid, but I think as long as you reduce them a bit, that has to help!

Planning a roast beef dinner Sunday, so I know I'll go over my calories, but I'm more relaxed about the diet at weekends, but also planning a walk to earn some extra calories for the roast dinner!

Jumblebee · 21/03/2015 08:32

Well, stupid cough woke me up at 6am this morning so I weighed in nice and early. I stayed the same Hmm

I'm trying not to be too disappointed but I'm really annoyed at myself because I know where I went wrong and I still made bad decisions even though I knew I shouldn't have. Stupid lack of will power!

I'm going to try and just keep going and look at the positives, at least I didn't put anything on!

Jumblebee · 21/03/2015 08:32

PS smiling I hope your weigh in tomorrow goes better than mine Smile
