Haven't seen a thread for this although i know there was one last year and i wasn't on it but i really need to do something now. I have about 4 stone to lose. I am starting to have aches and pains as i get older and feel fat and awfully self conscious. Going to try low calorie and mfp. Would anyone like to join me or point me in the direction of the right thread?
Thanks

I like the feature on MFP where you can import a recipe from the web and it will choose matches for the ingredients, which you can edit if you need to. My favourite cookbook is Curry Easy by Madhur Jaffrey and when I search the dishes I can usually find a webpage where someone has copied it out (not sure how that complies with copyright but it's making my life easier!). I don't really have the patience to input ingredients manually unless it's a very simple recipe.

I've lost a couple of pounds in the last few days but it's not a true loss as I'm now back where I was just before Christmas. Still it's good to know the festive damage has been undone!

Redling · 11/01/2015 20:51

Slightly anticipated tomorrow's weigh in and weighed myself and I'm 14 stone 5! That's 3 pounds off :) we'll see if it's lower tomorrow after today's food has been digested! I've always weighed in the morning after a wee, before a drink for the most flattering weight!

StarlightMcKenzee · 11/01/2015 21:08

Brilliant! Smile Love to hear all the weight losses.

I'm expecting to have lost tomorrow when I weight. I am hoping it is loads because I have just discovered that the reason I have been so miserable and hungry is because I have working out my calorie values all wrong.

I have put in a 'cup' of many things (rice, cereals, sauce etc.) as to me they were the amount that would fit into a teacup. But apparently a 'cup' has absolutely nothing to do with cup size.

So I have been having a teacup size portion of cooked rice and calling it 800 calories.

I've also way overestimated the portion of vegetables too, as saying I was eating a cup size portion of chopped carrot took me to many 100s of vit A.

Will weigh myself tomorrow and then try and re-adjust the measuring thing. No wonder I've found it hard.

Well done on the losses all others. Look forward to hearing more tomorrow. Had a bit of an eve off as have been so good this week. Had a coconut macaroon and a couple of chocs, but still coming in under 2000 for the day so fine.

Seeing everyones losses is fab ! Well done to all , I will weigh on thursday again . I have managed the gym both days this weekend and I am hoping to get there this morning , these are my only three days in a week that I can get there so I need to make the most of it really .

I ended up eating pizza for dinner last night which isn't ideal but such is life , I am not going to fall off the wagon because of it which is what I would have done before . I had three slices and a couple of bits of garlic bread but back on track today .

What does everyone have for lunch ? I am having soup most days which is fine but I don't want to get stuck in a rut having the same thing all the time because I know I will get bored . I used to always have a sandwich and a packet of crisps which is no good now .

There was no sneaky extra pound loss this morning :) so 14.5 it is! Happy with that. I want to be under 14 stone by the end of the month. My goal this year is 11, then maybe 10 one day... And then I'll probably get pregnant again and start again!

Lunches, depending on what I am doing (low fat or low carb) a jacket potato with cheese and chive cottage cheese and salad was always a favourite. If low carb a chicken leg or breast with salad and cottage cheese. Chop salad is nice, lots of veg all cut up the same (almost like a coleslaw) and tossed together with some feta cheese and dressing. but your right, soup is the easy fallback! I'm going to get some more of the Mousakkas from M&S, a nice size for lunch and only 280 cals. It feels like your really eating having a hot meal at lunch as well. And I can eat it with one fork which helps with whingey baby!

StarlightMcKenzee · 12/01/2015 08:27

I weighed this morning. Gone from 13.12 to 13.08, which is good but not that motivating yet because I've only gone back to what I weighed before Christmas so feels more like I've just got myself to the starting line.

The good news is that it's obviously working and that also from today I might actually begin to notice what I have lost.

Redling · 12/01/2015 09:26

Starlight that's a big loss though! Well done! I have got over a stone to go before I'm pre preg weight, and when I got pregnant I'd already put on weight from my ideal, so I've got loads before I'm just back to 'normal', and then would like to lose some more! But I'm seeing it much more as a long term thing than I ever have before, I don't spend all day thinking about food due to baby madness and I'm not looking to drop weight for anyone but me so I am not panicking, I have a wedding in April of like to be a size 14 for but that's it.

slithytove · 12/01/2015 11:44

Weighed myself.

Was 14st 9lb
Now 14st 2lb

I'm thrilled. That's from sticking to 1600 calories a day. Did 2 light stints of exercise, and am ebf. I will easily be able to drop the calories and up the exercise when needed.

I'm now under 200lbs for the first time in years.

Goals for next week: drink my water, eat 5 a day, and try to get to 13st xlb

lunalovegood84 · 12/01/2015 12:45

Brilliant losses all round! Well done. I was 14 st 9.25 lbs this morning so down 0.75 lbs since pre Christmas.

For lunch I usually have soup, dal or something egg based, mostly boiled eggs with a couple of small slices of toast. Going to try some new soup recipes as I'm always sticking to the same ones.

Cumberlover76 · 12/01/2015 13:24

for those wanting to drink more water, have you tried sparkling water with a quarter of fresh lime squeezed in, it gives it a lovely taste and very refreshing.

i also dug out my juicer yesterday as had tons of carrots and made a juice for DH and me with 8 carrots, 2 apples and 2 kiwi (it's also supposed to have a handful of parsley per serving but i didn't have any fresh). it's an instant energizer and is yummy plus lots of vits. Had it this morning with breakfast.

Cumberlover76 · 12/01/2015 13:26

Sorry if I've posted before, but this is my fave soup of the moment. Also this sounds yummy.

StarlightMcKenzee · 12/01/2015 14:15

That looks good cumber and really fast to make, and I have a packet of red lentils but there are no instructions on them.

Do I just bung them in, or do I have to do soaking or other prep.

Cumberlover76 · 12/01/2015 14:45

Red lentils are really easy to cook, just give a rinse and chuck them straight in. I tend to make double the amount and it lasts me & DH about 3-4 days, (depending on how big his portions are but he works outside so can eat lots!). I don't have the yoghurt with it and yesterday added a couple of carrots as had some to use up, i also add a tsp of turmeric as it's good for you and makes it an amazing colour. It's very filling.

Howlongtillbedtime · 12/01/2015 21:23

I went out to lunch today with a friend, the menu was a bit pasta or burger heavy so I ended up with a jkt potato with chilli .

Bloody hell ! Checked calories when I got home and it was 900 sodding cals ! So soup for tea

StarlightMcKenzee · 12/01/2015 21:29

I think a burger is not too bad if you avoid all the sauces, limit the chips and bread.

Howlongtillbedtime · 13/01/2015 07:21

I will have to remember that next time , but I am pleased with myself because normally that would be my cue to eat a load of crap because I had buggered up . But I still managed to come in under calories by having a bowl of soup and some ryvita for dinner , and thankfully I had been to the gym and not had time for breakfast .

It looks like everyone is doing really well , thanks for the lunch ideas .

gymboywalton · 13/01/2015 08:06

just had my weigh in
have lost 5lbs!

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 09:55

I'm on mfp and I usually have about 6 to 800 calories and it always says ive not had enough..is it bad for me? And if I ate the whole 1200 calories will I still lose weight

Redling · 13/01/2015 11:15

6 to 800 calories is ridiculously low, did MFP calculate that?! If you were intermittent fasting 2 days a week that low would be ok if you ate normally the rest of the week, but you should lose weight on 1200-1500 cals a day. You'll be seriously hungry on lower than 1000 and it will not be maintainable.

Redling · 13/01/2015 11:16

It's odd that some days I've seemed to eat less than 1200 but that's usually because I've skipped a meal. But to do it every day wouldn't be wise.

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 11:21

Well when I'm not dieting a go all ridiculous and have kebabs and pizzas but when I try and be good I usualy have Cheerios for breakfast slash dinner then go to work and have my tea at work which is usually a jacket spud with tuna and salad and then when I get home from work I have a rocky road bar and then I feel it's too late to eat anything else.mfp says I should have 1200 but because I have under active thyroid I jus don't think I'd lose weight

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 11:23

I'm 5ft 3 and weight 12stone I would like to get to 9 stone again

Shiraznowplease · 13/01/2015 11:23
