Chooseyourplayer · 01/01/2015 20:12

Haven't seen a thread for this although i know there was one last year and i wasn't on it but i really need to do something now. I have about 4 stone to lose. I am starting to have aches and pains as i get older and feel fat and awfully self conscious. Going to try low calorie and mfp. Would anyone like to join me or point me in the direction of the right thread?
Thanks

I'm not sure if I'm seeing results. I haven't weighed myself as it has only been 5 days and I know from the past that I can fluctuate by almost half a stone daily so even if I have lost weight it might not show on the scales at the moment that I weigh. I've got to be a bit more 'long-term' about it really and just keep going whether I loose or not, assuming that one way or another I'll be 52lb lighter at this time next year if I just carry on the way I am.

I am definitely eating a lot less.

Howlongtillbedtime · 08/01/2015 21:52

No Mrsmorton I need to lose the weight to get to a size 14 unfortunately but that is where I am happy , I would have to starve myself and go to the gym every day to get much lower I think , but we will see . I feel pretty determined to carry this on so who knows .

If you are not hungry then I wouldn't worry , I have never really understood the stalling thing surely if you are using more energy than you are taking in then you have to lose ? But I am sure someone who k nows about these things will be along with better info .

Mrsmorton · 08/01/2015 21:56

Thanks howlong I've never understood it either!!

slithytove · 08/01/2015 23:31

Did ok today if not particularly healthy. Came in at 1500 cals. Only managed 3/5 a day so need to work on that. But in fairness, I had no fruit in today.

Tomorrow the goal is to have my 5/5 a day and to drink a bottle of water.

Can I drink it as ribena light?

I think it's a great idea to do some virtual shopping in the size I want to be. I've got £500 put aside for the day I hit 11 stone.

Howlongtillbedtime · 09/01/2015 07:11

Morning everyone

slithy I am no expert but think water is the ideal but squash would be definetely better than teas or coffees .

i also want to get to 11stone , we have got a similar amount to lose . I know a lot of people would still think that was big but for me it means a comfy size 14 and I feel good at that .

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 09/01/2015 08:26

Please can I join you? Want to lose 1lb a week. Want to lose about 2 stone. I've been eating 1500kcal, including lots of fruit and veg for a week and have stopped drinking. Doing plenty of exercise too but I always do- it's binging that is my problem. I'm a bit obsessive and always have to stick to something perfectly. If I fall of the wagon and have one biscuit, I just give up for that day (or that week...)! Hoping to stick to nice healthy long-term diet which isn't too restrictive.

Redling · 09/01/2015 09:19

guybrush hello! I was very all or nothing about diets in the past as well, but now I'm accepting that treats are part of a healthy diet, if you accept they are a treat and not for every day! I love cooking, I love wine, I love tasty rich foods. But to have them and not be fat, I need to resrict these to a nice meal out and eat sensibly at home. Or, if I want to have a glass of wine at the end of the day, I need to have a very light lunch to offset the calories. It's very much what the WW points plan does. It's responsible eating rather than 'I am changing my life and only eating vegetables'. I know what I like and I know I want to be thinner, so I'm adopting 'a little of what you fancy' policy! Mainly veg based meals, less refined carbs and sugar, a lot more walking means I can have a couple of treat meals and a couple of drinks at the weekend I hope! I need to lose weight in a way I can sustain.

lunalovegood84 · 09/01/2015 10:17

Hi, can I join please? I had my first baby 6 months ago and was at my heaviest weight ever when I got pregnant nevermind all the extra baby weight. Confused

I weigh about 14 stone 12 lbs at the moment and 52 lbs would take me to roughly the lower end of 11 stone which is where I feel best (I'm 5'9" - that's a comfortable size 12 - 14 for me). Currently I'm wearing 16 - 18 but I have a lot of abdominal fat with a bit of an overhang and I suspect split abdominal muscles too.

I slowly lost about a stone in the 2 months before Christmas just by sensible eating choices, not very restrictive. I'm aiming to shift it up a gear and to do some exercise too. I have the 30 day shred DVD which I've done about twice. I am going to start that but swap the abs work for exercises from a post natal book I have. Also going to try to get out more with the pram. I'm so guilty of looking outside and thinking its going to rain so we'll just stay inside today. Even if it's raining there are lots of shopping centres and museums here that we can go to.

Redling · 09/01/2015 10:28

Hi Luna! I'm trying to get out more too, I spent most of December on the sofa with chocolate and my 4 month old baby on my lap :) lovely as it goes but not sustainable! I know about staying in, I do it if it's not nice weather, but yesterday I strapped him into the carrier, fastened my coat over him and walked with a brolly to baby group 30 mins away. I'm going to try and get out every day for a walk. If I can find any time I'll do my Davina DVDs as they are good.

Biscetti · 09/01/2015 20:00

Sorry, been crap this week and not been back on this thread. DC back at school one day and then one has been off for the last two. Fabulous start to the new term. I have lost 1lb though, so I can't really complain, particularly as I've thrown 5:2 out of the window this week.

DS has football tomorrow morning so will spend that 90 mins with a brisk walk, rather than my usual straight to Nero's for coffee. I will also post some fab recipes (soup and others) once I've bought a new charger for my laptop on which I have written up a load to share.

Hope everyone's had a good week and you're not all being blown around too much - it's blowing a gale here, with some pretty hefty gusts at times.

StarlightMcKenzee · 09/01/2015 20:42

Oooh, I'd love some recipes. I have been taken by surprise a bit tbh. Just started the weight loss plan when I saw this thread so have had to make do with adjusting the food I already had in.

I'm struggling with MFP and trying to figure out what it all means.

For example I put in Indian takeaway chicken biryani and there are lots of entries all saying '1 portion' and then a whole range of calorie rates.

That's what I am planning to eat tonight, or nothing. I haven't decided. I'm WAY under my allowance though but so very tired.

I appear to have a million carrots though and coriander (doncha just love ASDA online shopping and their substitutions). I seem to have quite taken to eating a carrot for breakfast which instantly solves my vit A deficiency and appears to work as a breakfast for someone who doesn't eat breakfast. I might partner it with a banana when we get some in, and try and address the potassium issue.

Cumberlover76 · 09/01/2015 21:02

With MFP I try to overestimate my calorie intake and under estimate my exercise so tend to pick the higher calorie option if I'm not sure on the database.

slithytove · 09/01/2015 23:46

Had an ok day. Stayed under 1600 cals even with a few treats, and took the kids swimming. Not much swimming for me but lots of arm work I guess! (2 under 2 non swimmers).

Had fajitas for dinner, so instead of having 4 with full fat stuff, I had 3 wraps with extra veg and lighter cheese/sour cream. Still an indulgent meal at 900 cals, but I ate eggs, fruit and veg the rest of the day in preparation!

Grilled bacon and eggs, and healthy lettuce wrapped chili tomorrow. Plus football class in the morning and a canal walk in the afternoon, should be a good day.

Managed 5 a day today. Not the water though.
Goal for tm, drink water, eat more veg for my 5 a day instead of fruit.

Bumblebzz · 10/01/2015 06:45

It's been said before but the barcode scanner thing on MFP is brilliant!
It stopped me going overboard on a pizza last night as I scanned it in first and then worked out how many slices I could have (far less than I would have had previously!).

Plus thanks again to the PP for the apple and peanut butter snack idea. I had it yesterday and it was a winner being 1. Delicious 2. Low in cals but filling 3. Took quite a while to eat so I didn't feel hungry afterwards. Definitely one to remember. I have one of those apple slicer things (cores and slices) which made it super easy.

Redling · 10/01/2015 17:28

Today is a bit of an indulgent treat day so I'll see how I do on Monday. I always used to be able to have a relaxed day (the WW extra points I used to have all in one day!) but if I dont lose much I might have to be more careful!

Methe · 10/01/2015 18:40

I'm having a day off today.. It'd cd1 and I neeeeeed wine and crisps. But I forced myself to take the kids for a walk earlier on so I've had some exercise and I might try swimming tomorrow. I'm just reminding myself frequently that this is a lifestyle change and not a sprint to the finish line, days off are fine.. As long as it's not every day off ... Which most of last year was!

I weighed myself earlier on though and I've lost 3lb since Monday and I feel so much better for the exercise. I've walked 12 miles this week. Don't think I'd walked 12 miles in the last quarter of 2014.

Hope everyone else is feeling good?

juneybean · 10/01/2015 21:30

I've had a terrible first week, I have lost the required 1lb since new years but still disappointing that I could have lost more if I'd behaved!

lunalovegood84 · 10/01/2015 22:06

Redling - well done for getting out in the rain. A couple of months ago I got caught in a sudden downpour with the pram and nowhere to shelter. I was soaked right through to the skin, wet socks and shoes etc, ugh it was horrible. Baby was fine under his plastic cover though. I just need to get over it, I'm in the west of Scotland, it rains a LOT!

I've had an OK couple of days but my goodness MFP really opens your eyes to properly counting calories. I don't really use it consistently, i normally do a sort of rough running total in my head. Today I thought I'd done super well and its come in at 1900 and I didn't include my cups of coffee and tea. Argh. That says its enough for a pound a week loss at the moment but I'd like to speed that up a bit in this initial phase as the last stone or so will be tough.

DoFliesHaveKnees · 10/01/2015 22:15

Bought a new scales yesterday so not sure if the reading will be true or not, but apparently I lost 4lbs this week. Will wait and see what next Saturday brings and take it from there!
Loving MFP, the barcode scanner is ace, makes it so much easier to track my calories.

I did slimming world last year, but I think MFP is better for me as I can see what I'm eating and helps me make better choices!
I have dragged out my SW books though, some good recipes to be had there!
Been making pots of soup which will continue, not so bloated this week, but as my DH pointed out, I haven't been drinking a bottle of wine a night this week ??
Roll on next Saturday so I can see if I'm going in the right direction! Well done ladies, good to read what's happening with everyone else!

Bumblebzz · 10/01/2015 22:29

Another ok day here too. I feel incredibly hungry at random times of the days (like at 6am this morning and now!) but I'm getting used to the feeling and it does seem to disappear after a while even without eating anything. I think I'd forgotten what it's like to feel hungry, pretty shameful really. I'm exclusively breastfeeding so that probably contributes to the hunger pangs too (but I have laid down plenty fat stores to support/feed both of us!).

I cooked chicken with chorizo and butter beans today, delicious and quite high in protein, very low in carbs/cals so it was a winner.

I'd love some more recipe/snack ideas if anyone has time to post. Especially snack ideas as I find most normal home-cooked dinners are fine, it's the sweet/snacky stuff that led to me gaining weight.

MaelstromOfLunacy · 11/01/2015 10:23

Sunday weigh in time!

Weight. 12st 13lbs (-1lb)
Body fat %. 39.1 (-0.6%)
BMI. 29.1 (-0.4)

Not too bad! Went to bodypump and lbt classes, but could have been more active, so that's my target for this week. Have booked in for three classes at the gym and will make the dog walks longer. How's everyone getting on?

Cumberlover76 · 11/01/2015 10:36

Well done everyone. I weighed in this morning and appear to have lost 4.5lb (2.1kg) this week which is amazing! I have been so good though. Exercised every week day and stuck to my MFP 1200 cals per day, I do tend to eat back a fair amount of my exercise cals though so I can eat a bit more each day. Have been pretty hungry, but if I can keep it up is worth it.

Methe · 11/01/2015 17:07

Ooooshcumber well done!

How are you all managing to use MFP will home cooked stuff? I've just had a huge plate of chilli and shredded cabbage but have absolutely no idea how to calculate the calorie content of the chilli which I made myself.

I fell off the wagon completely last night after I had some wine.. Several packets of crisps and a slice of christmas cake Hmm

Will have to see the damage tomorrow when I weigh. Hormones have a lot to answer for don't they!

Cumberlover76 · 11/01/2015 18:24

I use the recipe section on MFP for my home cooking. If you work out one time when cooking what the measurements of the ingredients are and be really honest about how many portions it makes. Then save it and its easy to add whenever you cook it's easy to add.

slithytove · 11/01/2015 18:29

I put my recipes into mfp too, works great and its how I learned fajitas were over 1000 cals

Ok day, only had breakfast and carrots as went for a nap this afternoon. Sausage and mash for dinner but have 900 cals to use so will be under.
