Haven't seen a thread for this although i know there was one last year and i wasn't on it but i really need to do something now. I have about 4 stone to lose. I am starting to have aches and pains as i get older and feel fat and awfully self conscious. Going to try low calorie and mfp. Would anyone like to join me or point me in the direction of the right thread?
Thanks

I'm changing weigh day to friday and only weighing once a week.

Having said that, I've a day off today. Had a third of my daily calories in Costa and am currently back in bed. Shock

Going to get up and do some gardening in 4 min! And go for a run later. ??

Mrsmorton · 13/01/2015 11:27

wishing you can't have 600 calories a day. It's not healthy it sustainable.

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 11:30

Well 600 a day but on a Saturday have 3000..does that sound bad or would it work?

Mrsmorton · 13/01/2015 11:32

Bad. I think your metabolism would be fucked.
What do you weigh now? What's your aim? 1200 is the minimum recommended unless you're doing cambridge or some such.

Why can't you do 1200 and 2000 at weekends? You'd still lose unless you're tiny already?

Redling · 13/01/2015 11:36

Wishing maybe try having a small low cal meal in the evening and seeing how you go? Soup or something. I just find if I eat so little I'll crack and eat loads! So eating up to my 1200 every day works for me. Also I have one day off a week as I tend to have excercise cals left over. So not saying 'I'll never have pizza again" but eating it in moderation rather than a few times a week!

Cumberlover76 · 13/01/2015 13:16

I feel hungry with 1200 and i tend to eat most of my exercise cals back, i'd be passing out with 600. It seems sticking to 1200 net calories works for me as i've lost a good 4lb in the past week.

I think Mrsmorton's suggestion of 1200 during the week and 2000 at the weekend is sensible.

Bumblebzz · 13/01/2015 13:38

Weigh in day today and I've lost about 4 lbs which I'm very pleased about. Though it's roughly equivalent to what I ate on Christmas day alone :)

I think I'm learning to identify when I'm hungry, as opposed to bored/stressed/habit etc. On Sunday I had a lovely lunch out (3 courses plus a glass of red) which i thoroughly enjoyed (and I'd planned to have one meal out where I could have what i liked) but I thought I'd totally blown my calories. However I just didn't feel very hungry that evening and had fruit and yoghurt and that was all I needed. Previously I would have still sat down and had a big evening meal out of sheer habit.
So overall very happy though I know the next few lbs are going to be much harder to shift!

Bumblebzz · 13/01/2015 13:41

BTW thanks to the PP with the frozen lemon slices suggestion - it's genius and stops me throwing out 4 lemons out of every 6 I buy ;-)

StarlightMcKenzee · 13/01/2015 13:48

wishing What is your BMI at the moment?

Cumberlover76 · 13/01/2015 14:06

I did read that if you are having lemon water in the morning it is best to have the juice of half a lemon rather than just a slice, so i have been doing that and the cut half of the lemon lasts fine until the next morning.

Also, for anyone doing exercise, yesterday i tried a beetroot juice shot a couple of hours before my spin class and i really think it made a difference to my stamina and i worked harder for longer. I saw it on a tv programme the other day and thought i'd try it. May try juicing my own, but i imagine will be messy!

Bumblebzz the lemon thing was me and I confess that they are mainly in there for G&T when I don't have ice :) but work for morning lemon too! I tend to wedge them and when they've thawed give them a squeeze in the mug to get more juice. I had a breakfast of scrambled egg and ham, a lunch of moussaka (now as DS is napping) and tonight I am doing spicy roast chicken with courgette fries.

Cumberlover76 · 13/01/2015 16:45

Like your style Redling Wink i think i will start freezing limes for my vodka (one day when i drink again!)

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 16:50

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 17:22

My BMI is 29.5 Confused

slithytove · 13/01/2015 18:23

Wishing, the issue with eating starvation calories, is that it will work short term, but do damage long term.

Your body burns a certain amount of calories each day regardless of activity. The BMR. You can find this number out online. If you drop drastically below that amount, you will lose weight yes, but it will be muscle mass as well as fat.

The more muscle mass we have, the more calories we burn at rest. So it's a good thing.

Also, when your body gets used to this, and you plateau, there will be nowhere for you to go with your diet, as you can't drop any lower.

I would advise looking at your calories burned in a day, and eating that, maybe minus a couple of hundred. Reassess the amount every half stone or so.

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 18:59

Thanks for the advice. I've checked my bmr and its 1555 and if I want to stay the same weight I need to have 1866.. I think I will cut down to 1000 or 1200 and see what happens

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 19:00

They say 3500 calories is a pound of fat so that's a pound a week so Id rather doubke that so I lose 2 a week

slithytove · 13/01/2015 20:25

So if you burn 1866 a day just by existing, cutting 600 cals a day out of that is 4200 a week, not including any movement. I think you'd easily lose 2 lbs a week.

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 20:30

The only thing is I'm under active thyroid aswell so it's harder to lose weight so that's why I thought im best of having less calories than everyone else

slithytove · 13/01/2015 21:02

Are you on meds?

Wishing123 · 13/01/2015 21:41

Ye 150mcgs of levothyroxine

polealltheway · 13/01/2015 23:22

Hi all can I join? I need to loose 2 stone Hmm
I have been calorie counting for the past 2 days and stuck to around 1400 cals per day Grin

I just checked my BMR and it is 1475 so should I be having this many calories or less to loose weight? I hope not less Hmm

StarlightMcKenzee · 14/01/2015 12:31

Hi all, and hello to the newbies.

Harder this week. I knew it would be. My weight loss was quite a lot last week and when that happens a week of nothing lost tends to follow, which is hard. However, if I can just lose 1lb (but ideally 2) then the scales will say something I haven't seen in years and that should give me the motivation I need to keep going.

slithytove · 14/01/2015 16:36

Welcome pole, 1400 is fine as BMR doesn't account for any calories expended in daily living, it's literally what you use to stay alive

slithytove · 14/01/2015 16:37

I'm in exactly the same position starlight. But I was high on calories last week so I'm hoping by dropping another 200 cals daily, I might see 13 St something come mon day morning!

Last time I saw that was a distant memory
