Chooseyourplayer · 01/01/2015 20:12

Haven't seen a thread for this although i know there was one last year and i wasn't on it but i really need to do something now. I have about 4 stone to lose. I am starting to have aches and pains as i get older and feel fat and awfully self conscious. Going to try low calorie and mfp. Would anyone like to join me or point me in the direction of the right thread?
Thanks

Ok, so I've just weighed myself and I'm 12st 7lb.

Monday will be my first 2 day of the 5:2, followed by Wednesday. These are my easiest days tbh, but I may mix them up .

Will be making a big pot of proper minestrone (ie without pasta) tomorrow evening. I find this fills me up nicely, is just less than 100 calories for a big bowl and, importantly, is delicious. Will have a poached/soft boiled egg for breakfast with asparagus soldiers, and a handful of nuts if I flag. It'll be green tea all day I think, as not overly keen on just water.

Also, will try my best to not weigh myself apart from on a Saturday.

Howlongtillbedtime · 03/01/2015 21:14

Biscetti , do you fancy sharing your minestrone recipe ? I am a bit rubbish at soup but I know it would really help to fill me up .

slithytove · 03/01/2015 21:18

I'm in! Pretty much exactly what I'd like to lose. I'm starting on Monday with a weigh in and mfp. Maybe slimming world if I can afford it. Good to have some support!

slithytove · 03/01/2015 21:20

I think I'm one of the bigger ones here :(

Biscetti · 03/01/2015 21:22

Yes, of course.

1 onion
2 sticks of celery
1 small courgette
1 potato (sort of half a fist size)
1 carrot
80-100g cauliflower
80-100g broccoli
1L of chicken or veg stock - I just use one Knorr cube to 1L water
Splash of olive oil
1 bay leaf
Parsley & S&P to taste

Cut all the veg up into 1.5cm pieces. Heat the oil in a large saucepan and sauté the veg for a few minutes, add the bay leaf and stock and simmer for 6-10 minutes, check seasoning.

I like to sprinkle about a teaspoon of Parmesan on top with the parsley - if you use a microplane it looks like you've got loads of cheese on!

It's just as good whizzed up but, for whatever reason, I feel fuller if I leave the veg as is.

Oh God I'm 14 stone 10. That's insane. And only 1 stone less than 40 weeks pregnant.

No sugar or White carbs, no carbs with evening meals. At least two hours walking a day if weather (and 4.5 month old DS!) permits. I might go to WW as there is a group close to me, but will try myself with MFP for a month and see how I go alone. I lost 3 stone with low fat diet a few years back but then went low carb to keep it off (as a foodie I chose lovely meat and fats over bread!) and did hula hooping (amazing) and Davina DVDs which were great. I had got to the point where bread and cereal and pasta weren't a big part of my diet. I need to remember my tricks and recipes! I remember a pack of stir fry veg with a spoon of very easy chilli and garlic plus soy sauce and a bit of chopped chicken was a great lunch with barely any calories!

Biscetti · 03/01/2015 21:27

Howlong I have got a huge number of soup recipes that I tend to wheel out through the year depending on season. All v easy, low cal and tasty. If you would like me to put some together for you let me know, and I'll happily do so.

Redling · 03/01/2015 21:28

That's a great recipe Biscetti! I have a cupboard stuffed with herbs and spices which will be my saviour. Weaning DS in Feb so have to be organised about food and pre plan anyway, so I may make up a big batch of soup for me at the weekends as well! No more eating 5 bowls of cereal during the day Blush

budgiegirl · 03/01/2015 21:35

I'm in ! I'm on the second day of MFP, and want to lose 52lbs.

Currently 13st 10 which is my heaviest ever , and feel really uncomfortable at this weight.

I used to run half marathons, which I loved, and it really kept the weight off. But a foot injury stopped all that, and my weight has steadily increased over the last 3 years.

Determined to do something about it this year - good luck to all of us embarking in this journey together xx

Howlongtillbedtime · 03/01/2015 21:55

That looks tasty Biscetti thank you . Will definitely be giving it a go , and yes please to a couple more , that would be fab , whenever I have tried to lose weight in the past I get stuck in a food rut so all ideas gratefully received .

Kewcumber · 03/01/2015 22:00

I'm in but not starting until school goes back - as I have tonsillitus and need to have some nice food when my throat healas enough as Christams was a bit of a white wash on the food front!

Doubt you are bigger than me Slithy. I lost 6 stone about 4 years ago and about half has slid gradually back on. So my aim is to lose 3 stone.

Well initially my aim is the get healthier, get more active and lose 7 lbs... and I'll take it from there...

Kewcumber · 03/01/2015 22:03

Might try 5:2 as it worked wuite well before but I work from home now and 5:2 much harder if you're at home!

Am going to weight myself at Boots - no scales at home to stop me getting obsessive - or may join a gym if I can afford it (will do budget next week) and weight there.

slithytove · 03/01/2015 22:04

Well im 14'10 and 5'5. Might as well be honest. Size 18 mainly.

I've had 3 kids in three years. At my heaviest I was around 17 stone but before kids I was around 11 stone and size 14. I've a wedding to go to in August and I'd love to be proud of how I look.

DH has 5 stone to lose, I'd love to really do it this time.

slithytove · 03/01/2015 22:06

Maybe we should all post handy recipes here? With calorie counts if possible.

Biscetti · 03/01/2015 22:12

Ok, will get some down on here tomorrow and yes Slithy that's a great idea - would be nice to have some new ones for me too.

NatalieHarding21 · 03/01/2015 22:12

I am really motivated by everyones comments and definitely want to give it a go, I too will watch the calories and aim for 52 lbs in 52 weeks, I have a exercise regime although need to action it, been sitting around for too long planning action, just got to do it!!!!!

WhenDoISleep · 03/01/2015 22:23

I'm in as well - starting on Monday.

Currently weight is 15st exactly and at 5ft 4in that is not healthy. I am seriously feeling it - foot problem which I'm compensating for so my leg aches all the time plus my back hurts every morning. I need to get this under control fast before I get any bigger - said that last January and have put on 1.5st since Blush.

I'm planning on using MFP and starting some exercise when everything goes back to 'normal' re school routines etc. next week.

My interim goals are end of Feb (my birthday) when I would like to be 13st xlbs then a holiday during over the Easter break when I don't want to be huffing and puffing more than the steam trains we are taking the DC to see.

Cumberlover76 · 03/01/2015 22:39

Here's one of my fave soup recipes, its very filling Chickpea & Lentil. I find eating veggie meals, especially currys, very filling and satisfying, more than meat. I'll find some good recipes to share.

Dowser · 03/01/2015 22:51

I'm aiming for a pound a week. Two would be better but I'm being realistic.

7 lbs by mid feb for me as I'm going away then it gets really hard when you're away.

Love soup. OH does a lovely veg one with a handful of cubed ham and he puts a tub of pease pudding in it which is basically puréed lentils. Aldi sell it and it's only ingredients are lentils and salt.

Not a load to lose to be fair, but am getting married later in the year and want to start looking for a dress about march.

Redling · 03/01/2015 23:16

I have a wedding to attend in April and as I'm a 16/18 would like to have lost enough to be more a 14/16. I Find it helpful to concentrate on dress sizes as it's remarkable how many you can drop, I went from a 20 to a 12 in 3 stone and it makes such a difference. I don't plan on getting my bits out in a bikini or anything so it's all about how I look in clothes! From a health point of view, I feel weaker since getting pregnant so I know losing weight and excercise will help me regain strength. My DS is a massive chunk who needs a mummy who can lift him and bounce and play with him and walk with him. I have an ongoing issue with my coccyx since the birth which I feel would be helped if such a weight didn't press on it. I feel puffy and bloated and want that lovely light feeling you get when you aren't stuffed and slightly hungry

ineedsomeinspiration · 03/01/2015 23:23

Can I join in? I was planning on getting myself together and weighing in on Monday.
I needed to lose weight before Christmas and the situation is now considerably worse.
I'm thinking of doing ww as it worked for me before and I'm not very good at banning stuff. Feel like I need to retrain my brain back how it was when I was slim and before I became obsessed with cooking.
I want to wear an item of clothing because it is nice and I link it rather than because it covers my flaws.

Chooseyourplayer · 03/01/2015 23:43

Its great that there are so many of us.
I am 5ft 6 and 14stone 7, size 18. My heaviest ever, and i am fed up. I also just want to wear clothes i like rather than cover-all's.

Is anyone giving up carbs completely? I am not sure if i am ok in moderation within my 1200 cals limit.

OP posts:
Biscetti · 03/01/2015 23:46

I'm not giving carbs up completely, no. They will certainly be reduced substantially on my '2' days, but I will have light carbs on my other days.

slithytove · 03/01/2015 23:50

Mfp has given me 1500 cals a day for a sedentary lifestyle? Should I reduce it?

Oh also I'm breastfeeding so don't know if I should add anything on for that?

Redling · 04/01/2015 00:40

I'm not giving up carbs completely but I'm going to cut them and get them from sources other than wheat as I'm a toast addict and can eat a vat of pasta. Also I do like to have a nice meal and I love cooking, so plan on cooking fairly normally but basing it on meat and vegetables. The starchy sides add about 300 cals to a lot of meals. But total no carb is so hard, you have to avoid yoghurt, a lot of veg like carrots etc. if I cut flour and sugar.
