Haven't seen a thread for this although i know there was one last year and i wasn't on it but i really need to do something now. I have about 4 stone to lose. I am starting to have aches and pains as i get older and feel fat and awfully self conscious. Going to try low calorie and mfp. Would anyone like to join me or point me in the direction of the right thread?
Thanks

I need to get some time to have scrambled egg for brekkie tomorrow I think!

Today I've had two coffees with SS milk, a snack pack of tandoori prawns and calamari with yoghurt dip (from M&S, really delicious and only 120 cals!) and a whole pack of stir fry veg with mushrooms with a spoonful of thai green paste and soy sauce. Mushrooms are good as they are almost like having bits of meat in there! I would have had more to eat but I knew I had duck in the fridge I had to cook and its fattening. MFP has quarter duck as 460ish cals so I'm just having mine with lettuce wraps and a teeny bit of plum sauce. 3 pints of water. M&S also had their diet lamb moussaka (280cals) on offer and it is very tasty and pretty low carb, so I've grabbed a few to have at lunch as DS is not allowing for much midday cooking time. Might make some of those egg muffin things, DS can have them once we start weaning too!

ineedsomeinspiration, not sure what you mean about weekly points. With MFP you just log everything you eat, so if I had a meal out I would probably overestimate the cals or amounts if it was not on the database (although some things might be there like chain restaurants) and just log it as I would usually.

I cook from scratch alot and the recipe bit is great, you can paste in a URL for a page with a recipe and it will import ingredients and amounts, but also allow you to edit. Or you can type/paste each ingredient in and it will find it. I've got lots of saved recipes that I regularly use.

This is my problem time now. I keep thinking about what I should eat, as I always snack at this time of day. So far I've kept out if the kitchen. I need to break the habit.
Does anyone have the recipe to make those egg muffins? I saw them on mn a while ago and thought they looked great. Would like to try them for breakfast.

Redling · 05/01/2015 20:49

I'm trying to remember how to cook with restrictions! I've been going wild with creamy sauces, proper goose fat roast potatoes, stews cooked with wine etc. I can't just remove the carb element as I'm not cutting them totally or out forever so I do have to also just learn that not every meal needs to be a sumptuous extravagant feast :) nowt wrong with a bit of soup or a nice healthy veg curry. Lean mince for chillis and no fat yoghurt instead of sour cream.

Ah, so sorry - was going to post some recipes but found out last night that DC are back to school tomorrow and not Wednesday, which was etched on my brain for some reason! So today has been a rush of new shoes, name taping bits of uniform and generally resembling a headless chicken. It was, however, perfect for my planned '2' day! Every cloud and all that.

Will post a load tomorrow when I've dumped dropped the little darlings at school.

Hello to all the new bods too. Grin

Bumblebzz · 05/01/2015 22:54

BTW if you use MFP on an iphone you can have your steps automatically counted and displayed in MFP.
I notched up 300cals today without really meaning to walk lots. I wiped it out with one slice of Xmas cake (my only treat today which is a massive contrast to the last 6 months! Still I need tips on handling evening cravings...).

Redling · 06/01/2015 08:33

Day started with black coffee and hot water and lemon. I slice and freeze lemon chunks so I drop them in boiling water and they defrost and cool it down to perfect temp! I want to make scrambled egg but I have a sleeping baby on me who's eyes shoot open if I dare try to put him down. You'd think he was a great aid to slimming but I just stuff myself when he goes to bed!

3littlerabbits · 06/01/2015 08:52

So I weighed myself this morning and got such a shock. 4 kilos put on over Christmas... I am now 79.5 kilos which at 5ft 4 (3 really ) that makes me pretty much obese :(

On the upside I am off work this week so did a spin class and a toning class yesterday (uncomfortable due to my size but got to the end, hurray! ). Had porridge, toast and 2 M&S superfood salads to eat. Also 1 penguin and 10 choc coins which is not great but they're gone now. Off to a spin class now.

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 06/01/2015 11:53

starting at WW tomorrow - I need people and that weekly weigh in to keep me focused I think..

Am thinking up nutritious lunches though - chicken + pea omelette with salad for lunch today.. no cheese needed as it is tasty enough on its own. Had porridge with raspberries for breakfast which was deeeeelish... don't know why I don't eat like this out of choice really -

WHY, if not focused, do I choose the crap even though the stuff I make tastes so good?

slithytove · 06/01/2015 12:55

So started the day with an apple, just had tuna pasta for lunch. Put my planned dinner into mfp and I'm set to come in at 1300 when I'm allowed 1500. Also walked 2 miles pushing a double buggy, so not a bad start!

Cumberlover76 · 06/01/2015 13:31

Day 2 going well for me too. I know what you mean NoLonger, i really enjoy the healthy food and the way it makes me feel. I do think my downfall is portion sizes though so i am weighing as much as i can and being really strict doing MFP.

I went spinning (light effort but i still went!) last night after work and today i put in 35 mins in the gym at lunch time and burned around 300 kcals plus my daily 45 min walk which burns at least 150.

Cooking the Cauliflower Fried Rice from The Healthy Chef with grilled chicken tonight. I've adjusted the recipe a little and will use 50g of almonds, and have guessed 4 servings (but i may revise later when i've made it.)

Some lovely recipes on there.

Howlongtillbedtime · 06/01/2015 18:44

Evening all , how is everyone doing ? I have just had a friend pop round with wine , normally that would be a good thing and a perfect excuse to eat crisps and snacks .

However ! Today I had a weak vodka with a diet coke and no rubbish, I now need to eat dinner before i have another drink and turn to the kettle chips .

StarlightMcKenzee · 06/01/2015 19:36

Can someone explain the MFP nutritional categories to me?

I understand % of RDA.

I don't understand the potassium daily goal. Am I aiming for it, for above it, or for below it?

Same with fats, cholesterol, sodium, fibre and sugar?

Not sure whether it is good that I have no trans fats or whether I have to try and increase them iyswim.

Methe · 06/01/2015 19:46

Yoghurt with blueberries for breakfast
2 mile walk at lunch time
Scotch egg on the way home from work ( I was starving as didn't have time to eat the salad I took to work :()
Bacon and mushroom omelet for tea .. Very few chips
2 glasses of wine

Not a great day but a vast improvement on this time that week :)

Cumberlover76 · 06/01/2015 19:48

This article is helpful Starlight . you need pretty much some of everything for balanced diet. You should try and avoid artificial trans fats as not good for the body.

Mrsmorton · 06/01/2015 19:50

I don't want to use my exercise calories, can I change the settings so it doesn't add them? I'm going for 1200 a day all in and exercise on top...
Waves at my friends on MFP!!

StarlightMcKenzee · 06/01/2015 19:57

Hmmm. It would appear I get practically no iron and no calcium and no vit A or C. I also get hardly any sodium.

I'm bang on for carbs, sugar and fat though, and I thought I was massively depriving myself. I'm so hungry.

Mrsmorton · 06/01/2015 19:57

Blush probably should have put that on the MFP thread.

That article is v useful cumber

StarlightMcKenzee · 06/01/2015 19:59

Bang on for protein too and almost non-existent cholesterol.

StarlightMcKenzee · 06/01/2015 20:04

Thank you cumber You have given me lots to think about/research.

MaelstromOfLunacy · 06/01/2015 20:11

If anyone wants to add me on MFP my name is HannahLaRouge Smile

Thanks again cumber you're a mine of MFP knowledge!

slithytove · 07/01/2015 01:03

I'm hungry :(
Really need to use my calories better tomorrow

PookBob · 07/01/2015 07:21

It was my sons birthday yesterday, so not a good day on MFP! Back on track today.
