Haven't seen a thread for this although i know there was one last year and i wasn't on it but i really need to do something now. I have about 4 stone to lose. I am starting to have aches and pains as i get older and feel fat and awfully self conscious. Going to try low calorie and mfp. Would anyone like to join me or point me in the direction of the right thread?
Thanks

Weigh-in day this morning and my weight is exactly the same as a week ago. On the plus side I guess at least it hasn't gone up (!) especially as I lost a few lbs the first week, so they've stayed off which is some consolation. Still, it's quite demoralising and I've had to work extra hard today to not cave in to having any treats! I think I haven't been drinking enough water the last few days and I have been eating at random times (like missing breakfast etc) due to being really busy, so I suspect that's thrown my metabolism out a bit. I have been fairly active (yoga, swimming etc) so I can't think where else I've gone wrong!

Any updates from anyone else? I think we need some motivation on this thread as it's now it starts to get tough...

StarlightMcKenzee · 20/01/2015 23:01

I've put on half a lb according to the scales which is hard given that I know I have had calorie deficit every day.

But scales are funny with me. From experience I know I can stay the same weight for 4 weeks and then appear to lose half a stone overnight, so really it is probably better to keep on just ignoring the scales pretty much,

Redling · 21/01/2015 06:23

That's a good point Starlight I've found when losing weight in the past your body can sometimes stay tr same then drop a few pounds! it's not necessarily going to happen every 7 days. I remember reading that India Knight diet book (v v v low carb) and there was something there about fat cells being replaced with water, then that leaves and you get the weight loss... I can't remember it exactly though! I'm hoping for next week. I managed to do a few sections of Davinas new DVD 7 min fit and it was excellent! DS giggling at me from the Playmat!

Redling · 21/01/2015 06:29

This is the basic outline. I dont know to what extent its true, but I kind of see how the concept works, and it's true when I was dieting and boozing back in the day I could drop pounds after a night out (even after the obvious dehydrated morning after). So weight loss can go in whooshes as the article calls them!

Can I rejoin please? Fell dramatically off the wagon, but I've been good for the last week and dropped 5lb so still on track overall Smile

slithytove · 21/01/2015 10:18

I'm definitely struggling for the lack of water. Also feel much hungrier this week and very bloated. Do feel like AF is imminent but on the implant so it's all up in the air.

Haven't been sleeping either which has always messed up my weight loss in the past.

Will just carry on with calorie deficit and hope for the best.

slithytove · 21/01/2015 10:19

Interesting link redling

Cumberlover76 · 21/01/2015 15:59

Keep going all, we can do it. I had a rubbish weekend as went to visit friends, so drank alcohol, went to the chippy for lunch and had a burger king on my way home (well it would just be rude to be at Paddington and not get a Burger King for the journey home - let me hasten to add i very rarely travel from Paddington so it's an annual treat if that!) Also DD was off nursery for 2 days at the end of last week, so i went 5 days with no real exercise.

I weighed myself yesterday and i didn't put any back on in that time, so still an overall 7lb loss in 17 days. Back to the exercise and 1200 cals now so hopefully will fall into the 12 stone bracket by the end of the weekend.

StarlightMcKenzee · 21/01/2015 16:04

Interesting link red. Might have a drink tonight without guilt.

MABS · 21/01/2015 17:12

can i join please? or am i too late? you are all doing so well :)

Redling · 21/01/2015 17:51

It's an interesting theory and could explain stop start weight loss. Also if you think bodies are not like clockwork and a steady weightloss that registers every 7 days isn't necessarily going to happen. You could do the same thing and drop 1lb one week and 3lb the next. It gets very discouraging when you see a tiny (or no) loss after a week and then have a tendency to blame the one time you had some cake that week (although across the whole week one treat should not stall weightloss) and then give up as you think you have to be super atrict. That's why seeing the year as a whole rather than being discouraged by a weeks weigh in helps. I think I'd give it a month of little or no losses before I thought that I should change what I'm doing. Also water weight is such a big deal. It makes a massive difference. If you've ever weighed yourself before and after bed then difference can be remarkable.

slithytove · 26/01/2015 08:25

5lbs off! That's a stone in 3 weeks, amazing. I'm going to aim to lose my next stone by my sons birthday in 8 weeks, feels achievable.

StarlightMcKenzee · 26/01/2015 10:19

Have eaten out 3 times this week so weight shows a gain of a lb. However, the scales still show a figure I haven't seen in years so I'll just treat it as a 'pitstop' and then crack on again. It's 52lb in 52 weeks and I'm still ahead of that currently so it is all good.

lunalovegood84 · 26/01/2015 12:28

Slithytove - wow! That is really good going.

Still plodding along at roughly a pound a week, but I'm not really calorie counting, in fact I haven't used mfp in a while. Just trying to make healthy choices. Currently 14 st 7.25 lbs. Another pound and I'm officially no longer obese!

slithytove · 26/01/2015 16:58

I'm really chuffed as I'm now 13stone 9 which I haven't been in years.

I think that water retention theory above is very true, as I only lost 2lbs last week, DH is doing this as well now and he only lost 2lbs this week (week 2 for him) so I suspect he will show a big loss next week.

I'm really hopeful that I can get the scales to show 12stone something by DH birthday in a month. We are going up to see his family so would be nice for them to see a noticeable difference

I'm still 11lbs away from being overweight instead of obese! Still, what a great target to aim for.

Hope this thread livens up, I find it so handy when I'm struggling.

snozzlemaid · 26/01/2015 18:12

I've lost 6lbs so far which im delighted with. Had a terrible weekend which included a Chinese takeaway but I'm determined not to stop and I've been really good today (so far). Normally after a bad couple of days I'd give up.

I've got used to not snacking in the evenings, but I'm struggling with when I get home from work at half past three. I always want to sit down with a cuppa but then I want to eat too.

lunalovegood84 · 28/01/2015 08:51

I've unexpectedly lost another pound since Monday, so have hit my "officially no longer obese" goal. BMI 29.95! Being a bit stricter about portion sizes lately and sticking to homemade lentil soups for lunch.

lunalovegood84 · 28/01/2015 08:55

Snozzlemaid - are you a teacher? I had the same problem with after work snacking. It was especially bad last year when I was pregnant, I just felt so drained of energy when I got home. I'm finding it much easier to resist snacking now on mat leave.

snozzlemaid · 28/01/2015 16:03

No, not a teacher. I'm attempting to keep busy when I get in so I don't sit with a cup of tea and then get tempted by crisps and chocolate biscuits.

Cumberlover76 · 28/01/2015 21:44

Well done all. I've dipped into the 12 stone band (just at 12.12) but that makes 9 pounds since I started on 5th Jan. I'm finding it better than I have before, but I think it helps that had already started making lifestyle changes at the end of last year so have pretty much stopped drinking. Also been loving all the exercise.

I've been pretty religious on my MFP and sticking to 1200 as much as poss, but with eating some exercise cals so allowing myself a couple of biccies in the eve.

Caramel snack a jacks or other sweet rice cakes are great for sugar craves. The snack a jacks are massive and only 50kcal each as are the Kallo chocolate ones, yummy!

Can't deny a little bit of what you fancy all the time ladies.

StarlightMcKenzee · 28/01/2015 22:26

I seem to have taken to snacking on pistachios and slithers of Stilton. If I have calories spare I have a glass of wine, which is often an incentive.

Bumblebzz · 29/01/2015 23:13

Struggling this week as it's been pretty stressful (DH was hospitalised and has been diagnosed with a chronic illness totally out of the blue) and with all the goings on I've missed meals and later eaten way too much, not had any chance to exercise, had no sleep due to teething baby and just slipped into bad habits and eating to feel better etc etc. I don't want to give up though as I am convinced that if I had a "normal" few weeks I would do quite well.
I just wish I was one of those people who loses weight when stressed as opposed to the opposite!

Cumberlover76 · 30/01/2015 19:22

Sorry to hear things are so tough for you Bumble Flowers (I chose the lowest calorie option between wine, cake and flowers Wink)

Hope it gets better for you.

Bumblebzz · 30/01/2015 23:16

Thanks Cumber, much better day today, ate properly and healthily and I started the 30 day shred! I've had the DVD for ages so it's an achievement to finally start and it wasn't too bad at all.

Hope everyone survives the weekend without succumbing to too much temptation!
