Iv just read a post about someones ff story, and have also commented on it.
Why are people so scared to say, "Well, at least try bf, its the best you can do for your baby."

Instead of all this "Is a mothers right to chose how to feed."
Well, yes, but it isnt the babies choice to be raised on powdered cows milk, compared to the PERFECT milk that is breastmilk.

Yes, sometimes its hard, and downright painful, but surely, as mothers, its something we should EXPECT to have to do? Motherhood isnt easy, so why is feeding the first thing people skimp on effort with?

OP posts:

if artificial feeding was bad for babies it would be banned? i can't even begin to engage with that... are you actually Jordan?

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:28

Lots of things are bad for people and not banned, GG - not sure what your point is.

Not saying ff is bad before anyone leaps on ME [Glinda]

GrinningGorilla · 27/06/2008 23:31

So do you think formula feeding is bad for babies then? So would it be preferable for babies to be wetnursed by other women or be bottle fed by their own mothers - just so they can have breastmilk?

Aitch · 27/06/2008 23:32

lol.

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:32

Very studiously and earnestly and definitely and absolutely NOT saying that, GG, look:

theSuburbanDryad · 27/06/2008 23:33

Grinning - wtf?! Did you actually read Hunker's post? The one where she specifically says she doesn't think ff-ing is bad?

GrinningGorilla · 27/06/2008 23:34

By the way i'm not Jordan, but wish I had her money!!

theSuburbanDryad · 27/06/2008 23:34

(Hunker - have you heard my Extremely Exciting news, btw?)

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:35

No! Tell me!

Aitch · 27/06/2008 23:35

theSuburbanDryad · 27/06/2008 23:36

You have to GUESS!!!

GrinningGorilla · 27/06/2008 23:36

Sorry the post I did was meant for Aitch, it just happened to go on after hunker posted.

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:38

My usual response to "I have exciting news" is "Are you pg?" - the last person I said it to (you know who you are if you're lurking!) said YES!

So, shall I see if I can make it 2/2?

Are you pg?

Aitch · 27/06/2008 23:38

well in answer. it would be preferable for the babies, yes. but in our culture not for the mothers i think. in purely biological terms though, deffo wetnursing or expressed milk, yes. but as i was just trying to say to sabire, none of these things are purely biological, they're cultural.

theSuburbanDryad · 27/06/2008 23:39

YES!!!

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:39

Aitch · 27/06/2008 23:45

wonderstuff · 27/06/2008 23:45

Congrats tSD
Sabire at our local hospital they do assume everyone wants to bf, quite militant about it tbh, I have met a few people who have been upset by mw's taking away bottles and trying to latch baby on! They wouldnt even discuss ff att our anti natal group

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:45

Am really happy for you How come two scans already - are you OK?

theSuburbanDryad · 27/06/2008 23:46

hunkermunker · 27/06/2008 23:48

Phew phew phew indeed - I had early scans with DS1 for just that reason too. Hope all happy and healthy and as worry-free as pregnancy ever is for you.
