I know there's a petition up for people to sign if they don't agree with the new Equality Bill being proposed, but if you'd like to do something more physical then watch this space!

We're hoping to do this on the 21st July, to coincide with the recess of Parliament for the summer break. We're also going to be organising regional events this time, as I know that a lot of people would have liked to be involved but couldn't get to London!

More news as I soon as I know what we're doing - but your support will be invaluable.

Nappyaddict, I work in Sunderland. What are you doing in Sunderland? [v. nosy emoticon] I thought you lived elsewhere?

nappyaddict · 09/07/2008 13:49

my friend who lives near birmingham is visiting parents in sunderland but still wants to go to one of these picnics if she can.

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 14:21

Aghh!! No reply from the Uni security, have rung several times and no answer! Any suggestions anyone?

kiskidee · 09/07/2008 14:25

How about we just show up? Can you see them actually bouncing a dozen mothers and babies off the grass? Go ahead and contact the press etc. Esp if the press is there they may see it as a measure to get good rather than bad publicity.

could you send them a letter by recorded stating sweetly that you would love their official blessing to have this event on their grass?

shanegem · 09/07/2008 14:52

made a top for the big day, what do you think?

nappyaddict · 09/07/2008 15:35

i like it. i might have done the slogan in a brighter/darker colour though.

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 17:42

Kiskadee - yep I'm thinking along the same lines!

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 17:42

After all isn't it better to ask forgiveness than permission

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 17:51

I have just seen an email from the Brum picnic organiser - she has made a very good point wet weather alternatives. I don't think Vennels as tbh it's not very pushchair friendly!
Any suggestions on this front!

I might be abe to attend the Birmingham one...
Is it far from B New Street?

TinkerBellesMum · 10/07/2008 14:56

From New Street Station:

Up the escalators into the Palasades. Turn left, follow the path round to the left again and turn right, which brings you down the ramp.

Carry on in the same direction (Corporation Street) until you get to House of Fraser.

You need to go behind House of Fraser so either turn left just before it (Cherry Street) or through the North Western Arcade.

It's a five minute walk.

Sorry to do step by step, don't know how well you know the area around there and for anyone else who wants to come.

TinkerBellesMum · 10/07/2008 14:58

Awwww love the pic of your little girl "breastfeeding"! I wish I could convince Tink to do it, she just gets one doll to feed another

Haylstones · 10/07/2008 16:45

Thanks Tink, I'm in Glos so easy on the train but I don't knwo Birmingham at all. Will definitely try to be there.
Dd loves 'feeding' her babies the same as mummy feeds ds - lol at yours uding babies to feed other babies!

VictorianSqualor · 10/07/2008 18:54

Do any of you have posters?
We've come up with this so far, wondered if anyone else had done one?

TinkerBellesMum · 10/07/2008 21:21

The best one is an action man figure (the small ones, not Barbie type size, my brother would have hated what I did with his action men and Barbie lol) she loves that live in Nanny's toy box. She loves it because it's black, her godfather is black and she loves him so she goes around hugging this action man, telling everyone he's called "Allan" (as are all the jazz musicians on the walls at Old Orleans ) and even sleeps with him at Nanny's. Anyway, she gets one of her "Bobba"s (Brummie for baby) to feed "Allan"!

Just read my instructions to TBD and he thinks they work. It is really easy to get to, if you get lost ask someone how to get to Rackham's (it's not called that anymore, but people still call it it) or look for a bus stop as there are maps near them.

Maybe we should set up some contact numbers so people can call someone if they get lost?

I've been working on a poster, but I think I put too much info into it, so I'm going to try trimming it a bit. I like the one that's been on the group today, maybe we could adapt it.

pooter · 10/07/2008 22:47

Victorian Squalor Im organising one in Colchester - 1pm - 3pm by the bandstand in Castle Park. Ive got about 12mums and assorted children so far, and havent even been to Le leche yet! (that's tomorrows job) - are you coming? Do you know someone who would like to?? Im making boob-like fairycakes to tempt people.....

pooter · 10/07/2008 22:49

Victorian Squalor you can email me on archipooter at googlemail dot com if you want more info (although there is no more info!)

Woooozle100 · 10/07/2008 22:57

ooh I can try and come to bham one. Dyou need any help with publicity in local media?

TinkerBellesMum · 10/07/2008 23:20

ChairmumMiaow's OH has spoken to someone at the BPM and they're going to be covering us, but feel free to call anyone else you can think of.

We still need to get in touch with breastfeeding groups, so if you want to help calling/emailing around some of them. We're still working on a poster and will need banners (Cathedral want us to have some, but said we mustn't use the railings). We've got a facebook group for Birmingham (breastfeeding picnic - Birmingham) if you want to join us there.
