I know there's a petition up for people to sign if they don't agree with the new Equality Bill being proposed, but if you'd like to do something more physical then watch this space!

We're hoping to do this on the 21st July, to coincide with the recess of Parliament for the summer break. We're also going to be organising regional events this time, as I know that a lot of people would have liked to be involved but couldn't get to London!

More news as I soon as I know what we're doing - but your support will be invaluable.

VS and Ready4 I am also up for an Oxford picnic, what does organising involve - apart from thinking of venue (I'm clueless in central Oxford) and letting the Police know we'll be there?

ChairmumMiaow · 08/07/2008 11:41

I've just got permission from Birmingham Cathedral to use their grassy area, so Birmingham has a venue and I just need to confirm with the police, which I will chase today or tomorrow!

VictorianSqualor · 08/07/2008 12:07

DP reckons the university parks would be best in Oxford.

VictorianSqualor · 08/07/2008 12:10

Also DP works for Oxford Mail and can get them to cover it.

Yorky · 08/07/2008 12:11

VS - you're not doing very well if you don't want to end up doing more towards organisation!

ChairmumMiaow · 08/07/2008 12:15

Oh I forgot, DH also accidently made a contact at the Birmingham Post yesterday - she said she'd be very interested in doing something about our picnic so I have emailed her

VictorianSqualor · 08/07/2008 12:17

LOL. Well, I'll do you a deal.
I'll get dp to get the paper involved, and try to get the Oxford MNers involved if you contact the university parks and the police, hows that?

Indith · 08/07/2008 12:21

Ooooops

Not gone to France yet! Going on Sat and coming back 26th. When are you planning for? Erm, e-mail me, glad to help if I can.

VictorianSqualor · 08/07/2008 12:45

I've started a thread here Yorky.

UD, is berolina still in the UK?

theSuburbanDryad · 08/07/2008 13:00

No, Bero went back last week VS. But I have her email if you want her to talk to someone at the uni for you (not sure how much sway she gets - but she'll be able to tell you that [amile])

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 08/07/2008 13:06

I have her email, I'll drop her a line later, there is someone else on mn affiliated to the uni as well.

BouncingTurtle · 08/07/2008 16:06

Hello Indith!!! I thought it was June you going, my bad. So you won't be around for the picnic as it is on the 21st - maybe you could have your own on in France!
It turns out the contact I was given by the Police was a H&S guy at the council, but he has given me the details of the head of security of Durham Uni - since they own Palace Green.
So waiting to hear from him. H&S guy did bring up a concern about young children being near traffic though, so I'll have to give you all some kind of safety briefing I guess!

nappyaddict · 08/07/2008 16:29

who is going to the birmingham one?

BouncingTurtle · 08/07/2008 16:34

I've just had a call from the Inspector who gave me the details of who I needed to contact, he was very lovely! He asked if we were going ahead with the picnic in Durham if the UNi refused permission for us to use Palace Green and I said yes, if we can find an alternative venue (Indith can you help with this?), he said to let him know and if we needed any assistance with press, traffic management etc., he would be happy assist!

BouncingTurtle · 08/07/2008 16:34

happy to assist!

WilfSell · 08/07/2008 16:36

anyone know where the nearest one to Stoke is?

Ta.

Indith · 08/07/2008 19:43

Not sure of alternative venues really. The whole point is to be pretty public, the botanics are a great place but limited in terms of the public. Ditto the garden in Castle, smiling sweetly at them is an option (and if you want me to before Friday I can, the office staff know me well!) but it is out of view.

I can't see why Palace Green would be refused, traffic up there is pretty minimal so really shouldn't be a problem.

If you get this in time, do me a quick "poster" with the date and your contacts on and I'll give a copy to the lady that runs Bumps and Babies in Durham City who I'm seeing tomorrow and to my MW to put up in the clinic, seeing her on Thurs. If you don't manage it then I'll give the Bumps and Babes woman the e-mail I have for you and you can get something to her.

lackaDAISYcal · 08/07/2008 20:01

Did anything get sorted out for York?

If not, I can make Durham I think ....DS doesn't finish school until the 22nd, but I think DH will be home that day; if not the GPs can pick him up.

I've emailed morgangee to get on the mailing list, or do I need to contact you BT?

kiskidee · 08/07/2008 20:05

WRT traffic, health and safety for nurseries for under 3's is 1 adult per maximum of 3 children. You could poss. CC him an email/letter to all participants informing them that they are responsible for the safety of their own children and that they are to bring along no more than 3 children per adult to the event. I am a bit at the traffic thing too. After all, parents walk with small children and babies in close proximity to traffic all the time in Durham city centre!

TennantbellesMum · 08/07/2008 21:03

I'll be at the Birmingham one Nappy.

WilfSell there is Birmingham if there isn't a Stoke one, don't know about any other Mids ones.

BouncingTurtle · 08/07/2008 21:08

Indith - I've contacted the head of security if you could have a word (mention me!) that would be great! Haven't done the leaflet yet so it would be great if you could pass that email address on! I don't think it would be a problem TBH!
Daisy - oh yes! It would be fab to meet you!
Kiskadee - IKWYM! Especially walking up to the Cathedral - pavements are sooo narrow! That is a very good suggestion BTW!

nappyaddict · 08/07/2008 23:55

Tink - what time will you be going?

TinkerBellesMum · 09/07/2008 00:00

We're saying 12 start. I need to talk to TBD but I think I'll go straight there and get him to bring Tink to me from the CM.

nappyaddict · 09/07/2008 13:06

does anyone know where the nearest one to sunderland is?

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 13:12

Nappyaddict - I'm holding one in Durham, we're inviting everyone in the Teesside/Tyne & Wear area.
