Oooooooh, what to do? Do i post this on Breast and bottle feeding or on Weaning? because Annabel Karmel's been telling The Standard that after 4 months breastmilk is not enough to keep babies healthy...

I never want to make an enemy out of anyone - honest...but I do believe that when people make their livelihoods out of children, they should act responsibly......she may have been misquoted but the article was still on-line at 3pm.....if that had been me I would have got them to remove it asap.....maybe she did, I dont know.....but I think it is really important that accurate advice is given - especially when it comes to feeding our lo's...

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 25/01/2008 20:17

[sighs]

Right ok then carry on.

When the law suit hits though, I never said nuffin or nuffin!

hunkermunker · 25/01/2008 20:18

It's important, SJ. Honest.

harpsichordcarrier · 25/01/2008 20:19

"weaning after six months onto table scraps"
surely there is more to BLW than that

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 25/01/2008 20:19

I know, I know, carry on

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 25/01/2008 20:20

(not that you needed or were awaiting my permission anyway! )

Jennster · 25/01/2008 20:20

Tickers hey?

Jennster found out about tickers

5 minutes 34 seconds ago......

hunkermunker · 25/01/2008 20:22

Harpsi, nah, that's about it in a nutshell, really Did you see I was on the radio today?

Piffle · 25/01/2008 20:24

she is daft her books are NOT incomaptible with BLW, you just ignore the first 1/3 of the bloody thing
I love to cook and do homemade every night (mostly) sometimes I cook her chicken and apple balls and all the kids 13yrs -10mths love them. DS2 has never had sludge purees but has had many AK recipes.

She has such a profile, usually well respected in most areas of baby feeding. She could exploit both and cater to both BLW style AND purees. As it is about maternal choices and styles after all. She is buryign head in sand to a career affecting degree IMO

Habbibu · 25/01/2008 20:27

Can't help but thinking BLW is missing a trick. I mean, if you rebranded this as a multipurpose BLW vegetable shaper "for those tiny little handies" and this as a vari-use broccoli tree implement, all in shiny packaging, with BLW in shiny metallic letters, people would buy it simply because it's in the baby aisle, surely?

VVVQV · 25/01/2008 22:42

Nah habs - Aitch's Own BLW ready meals

terramum · 25/01/2008 23:02

I've emailed her as well...she responded but didn't answer my questions at all.....then I noticed that her email was a word for word copy of her statement on her forum . Shall see if she replies again....not holding out much hope.

kiskidee · 26/01/2008 01:20

surely Aitch and AK should join forces and create the babyfeeding empire.

I could just see thousands of wittle these with a double A logo.

Aitch · 26/01/2008 02:21

weaning on table scraps is exactly right, imo.

Have just skim read this thread (made me too angry to linger) but I couldn't help noticing that according to two quotes on here she seems unsure about how many children she has. Whether it's 3 or 4, I don't care, but if she has problems counting her offspring I doubt I'd trust her advice on weaning.

tiktok · 26/01/2008 09:48

AK had a child who sadly died as a baby - that's why the discrepancy.

It's explained below - always best not to skim read threads....

IAteRosemaryConleyForBreakfast · 26/01/2008 10:21

Oh goodness, I am duly shamed.

It obviously doesn't excuse her ignorance but the poor woman

Mummy2Bookie · 16/04/2011 13:14

Bloody annabel bloody karmel.......... she has no right to talk about weaning before 6 months. She should stick to her hairspray and make up photo shoots for her books that recycle all her old recipes anyway. My sdd has three of her books that all contain her hidden veg sauce.

Okonomiyaki · 16/04/2011 15:24

Um, zombie thread!

peanutdream · 16/04/2011 19:24

my little chunky monkey was ebf till 6 months and then one of his first foods was sucking and chucking a finger of steak a la blw. love it.

and people keep saying to me that the advice has changed again - weaning at 4 months is back on Confused is this true? i doubt it???

jaggythistle · 16/04/2011 19:59

i was given the book as a present from my MIL. (she reads the Daily Mail too but is normally quite nice...)

i agree that some of the older baby/toddler recipes are ok and easy too.

we did a mixture of mush and finger food for DS.

some of the 'helpful advice' between chapters is awful though, i felt it was encouraging you to drop feeds and get more mush in asap. also she doesn't mention breast milk at all after about the 12 month point so obviously doesn't rate the nutritional value much.

i ignored the meal planner guff too, she has too much time on her hands.

jaggythistle · 16/04/2011 20:00

oops missed zombie thread bit. Blush

PenguinArmy · 16/04/2011 22:09

So what does she say about BLW?

franke · 16/04/2011 22:12

Haha, this thread's from 2008!

But in answer to your question Penguin, I think regarding blw, she was concerned about babies choking on lychee stones Hmm

seriously.
