Oooooooh, what to do? Do i post this on Breast and bottle feeding or on Weaning? because Annabel Karmel's been telling The Standard that after 4 months breastmilk is not enough to keep babies healthy...

HM- rofl laughing when I realised that she was a junior member too!!!

And the posts are all so wishy washy....do you think they are relatives??

tiktok · 25/01/2008 12:31

The article is pretty rubbishy in other ways - it's not just WHO who have this policy but our own Dept of Health. And NCT does not have 'every branch' of it 'endorsing' the guidance....that's not how NCT works.

Aitch · 25/01/2008 12:47

er, what wellie quoted from Practical Parenting is still accurate. AK and the ed are best friends, there's no way they'd mis-quote her and live to tell the tale, she pays for half their mag in ads at the moment. i really, really think that The Standard may not have mis-quoted her...

VERY odd that it hasn't gone from the website if she has a valid complaint, btw, newspapers normally shit themselves about that and yank stuff immediately. (also v odd it hasn't gone from PP's website).
has she complained to the PCC, i wonder?

Ah, I see they have published my comments.....

The article is still there........

MrsBadger · 25/01/2008 13:27

Aitch · 25/01/2008 13:29

V good question about whether she's complained to the pcc. Anyone put it to her?

Peachy · 25/01/2008 13:33

There's long chain fatty acids in breastmilk- that's why the formula companies keep farping on about them and including mionced fish in their products in an attempt to replicate!.

Seriously Not On to contradict WHO nd UNICEF advice imo

MrsBadger · 25/01/2008 13:37

ah but I am asking Searching Questions, Aitch...

Aitch · 25/01/2008 13:39

Shall we start a new thread on her forum discussing how fantastic BLW is!!??

StealthPolarBear · 25/01/2008 14:10

Right, so rumours of her misquote have been exaggerated

Piffle · 25/01/2008 14:24

the womans carer depends on her books been sold
Publicity which then causes mothers to buy these books 2 mths earlier.
REsult.
Ignorant farking cow, tell me then which one of my kids ever had low iron?
Ill?
piss off

terramum · 25/01/2008 14:42

She's going to be on BBC Radio London (Eddie Nestor Show) Sunday 28th...sometime around 10.45pm....if anyone fancies calling in

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 25/01/2008 14:43

Putting on my threads as about to go out.

Mustn't miss this.

Habbibu · 25/01/2008 14:53

Well, I've posted, but really only in reply to Mo McAuley, as it was my usual rant about big babies and weaning. Don't think there can be a person on the planet who doesn't know BabyHab's birth weight now.

Aitch, do you think AK is fearful of the increasing influence of the BLW Queen-Bee blogger?

Karen999 · 25/01/2008 14:57

Is it just me or are all the comments under the article missing??

Habbibu · 25/01/2008 14:58

Just noticed that too, Karen - think there may be a crash of outrage...

Aitch · 25/01/2008 15:17

i think she's probably more frightened of gill rapley, and with some justification if that radio four thing is anything to go by...

OP posts:
Habbibu · 25/01/2008 15:25

Ah, but Gill Rapley is "qualified" and therefore utterly off AK's radar, surely?

Peachy · 25/01/2008 15:44

Ah, Gill Rapley is OK

But very dedicated to the cause certainly (met her via Unicef)

S1ur · 25/01/2008 17:20

Gah! the ES didn't publish my comment! I was even insulting -

The AK forum have pulled one thread I started last night but left the other (the one with AK response).

And she's started her own thread too, her post...

"Hi everyone

Many of you have seen the article in yesterday?s Evening Standard (26 January) with the headline ??Breast not best after four months?, says expert?and there?s been quite a debate about this on my forum.

Unfortunately this is not what I said to the Standard and wanted to explain my position so there?s no confusion.

I wholeheartedly support breast feeding and never stated (nor support) the claim that you should stop breastfeeding at four months. The reporting was a misrepresentation of my views.

I breastfed my three children and have consistently supported it in my 16 year career as the UK?s best-selling author on baby and children?s food. I have always stated in my books that breast or formula milk provides all the nutrients that a baby needs for the first six months in life.

However I wanted to warn mothers that babies need iron in their diet from six months once their mother's supply of iron has run out. So if they start weaning on fruit and vegetables at 6 months then it is likely that babies do not receive their nutrients like iron and essential fatty acids so unless there is a history of allergy it is fine to introduce simple solids like apple, pear, carrot or sweet potato earlier from five months onwards so that at 6 months you can move onto fish and meat.

I will be clarifying some of these points on BBC Radio London on the Eddie Nestor Show this Sunday 28th around 10.45pm and I hope you have time to tune in.

Best wishes,

Annabel xxx"

So that's taht cleared up for ya!
