Would I really regret giving up BF now?

As many of you know, I had my DS2 prematurely at 33 weeks, 11 weeks ago. I have been breastfeeding and topping up with EBM via a NGT tube. Callum is struggling with his weight gain and doesn't put on a huge amount weekly. Today has been so hard, I have struggled to express enough milk off for his topups. I am tired and physically shattered. I feel tearful. I so want to do the right thing, and keep breastfeeding but I don't know how much more I can take.

thanks moondog! she lot 18mo now and as soon as she was one no formula came this house again! although it took alot hard work to get her to drink full fat as its not sweet like formula!

sparklygothkat · 12/12/2007 14:36

sf, callum will gulp down the formula too, but i know he getting enough of my milk, he just needs more calories.

md the ABM lady works during the day (she is a HV) so will phone her later.

Hi sgk - only read first 3 pages of this thread so apols if I am repeating anything.

Have you seen / tried the Medla Supplementer? Its a real faff to use and clean but it does let a baby have top up feeds at the breast via another little tube that goes in their mouth with yr nip. I've been using it with my 9 wk old ds with varying success. Have also been giving him top ups of ebm and formula via bottle. He had static weight for 1st 5 weeks.

sparklygothkat · 14/12/2007 20:02

12oz gain this week, he is now 7lb 3 1/2oz.

chipmonkey · 14/12/2007 21:18

Yee-har!!!!

sparklygothkat · 14/12/2007 21:50

it appears he does need the extra calories, why i have no idea!

the only thing is he is now throwing up a lot again, would this be the formula or the reflux meds needing adjusting again?

OP posts:
moocowme · 15/12/2007 04:32

could be the formula. have you tried a stay down one? breast milk is much better for reflux. are you keeping him upright after feeds?

sparklygothkat · 29/12/2007 00:03

well, Callum is now a huge 8lb 6 1/2oz still breastfeeding, and topping up with formula, but we hope to stop the topups soon.
