Would I really regret giving up BF now?

As many of you know, I had my DS2 prematurely at 33 weeks, 11 weeks ago. I have been breastfeeding and topping up with EBM via a NGT tube. Callum is struggling with his weight gain and doesn't put on a huge amount weekly. Today has been so hard, I have struggled to express enough milk off for his topups. I am tired and physically shattered. I feel tearful. I so want to do the right thing, and keep breastfeeding but I don't know how much more I can take.

I don't know, I hope it will make a difference, if it doesn't then we know that something is wrong with Callum. I struggled so much yesterday to express enough off for him, I was getting dribbles of milk instead of my full bottles. He is still breastfeeding, and the topups contain mainly EBM, its just to keep my sanity now. I was so on the verge of giving up yesterday, I was exhausted with it all. My girls are playing up, every single night, screaming, shouting and running about. My body was screaming 'enough'

It must be so hard and worrying especially with three other children.
Poor poor you.

I asked about fortifiers but our health trust doesn't give them out to patients at home, only in-patients. This ruling is changing next year.

Sorry sparkly, that stray smiley was mean't for another thread.

You must be knackered.

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 19:58

I am, Callum is still not settling at night till at least midnight, and he feeds back-to-back from 9pm. Then he wakes at 2-3 and 5-6am. I then sleep till 8am, when DH wakes me to do the girls hair. I stay at home while he does the schoolrun and feed Callum again and express enough off to last the day. Then I do whatever is needed to be done that day, and pick the kids up from school, as well as feeding and topping up. I am physically and emotionally drained.

Bossy Highlander speaks - your DH can learn to do your girls hair for the next couple of months. You need sleep!

200mls - wow

MrsGrinch · 10/12/2007 20:03

Sparkly - I hesitate to suggest it because of affecting your supply but could Callum be topped up down the tube by dh at say 1.30 before he wakes? Just for a couple of nights to give you a longer stretch.

moondog · 10/12/2007 20:04

YES sPARKLY,YOU REALLY SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL DUTIES.
yOU KNOW THIS DON'T YOU?
I hope your dh does!

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 20:07

I know, but Dd1's hair is long and has to be put up, he tried when I was in hospital and he gave up in the end.. I want to get it cut into a bob but she refuses to let me cut it that short. Dd2's hair is just above her shoulders and much easier to deal with

OP posts:
moondog · 10/12/2007 20:07

Oh just cut the lot off.
Kids get no choice in times of crisis!

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 20:08

lol, I am going to take her to the hairdressers soon, and see if I can talk her into having it cut the same as Misdee's dd1

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 20:24

woohoo just expressed another 120mls. I think yesterday was just a bad day, I got myself all worked up and it affected my milk supply.

OP posts:
moondog · 10/12/2007 21:15

Oh that's good news!
Relaaaaaaaaax girl!

AwayInAMunker · 10/12/2007 21:18

Brilliant, SGK! But how hard is a ponytail? Or does she need plaits a la Princess Leia?!

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 21:19

she has to have plaits, purely becuase her school is riddled with headlice and she comes home with them weekly if her hair is left to fly around...

moondog · 10/12/2007 21:27

aLL THE MORE REASON FOR A BUZZCUT.
wILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM NICELY.

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 21:30

buzzcut!!?? I don't think I will get away with that one pmsl!!! I wish I could, would save lots of time hehe

OP posts:
DoesntChristmasDragOn · 10/12/2007 21:36

Surely your DH can learn to do a simple plait??

You're doing a fab job.

sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 21:41

no he is all fingers and thumbs lol!! Her hair is really thick too. I hate it!! I struggle to get it up most morning..

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 10/12/2007 21:42

what I normally do is plait it the night before and hope it stays in place for the morning lol, but it doesn't always work out and has to be redone

OP posts:
DoesntChristmasDragOn · 10/12/2007 22:03

Plait it and then accidentally cut it off with a pair of scissors...?

MarsyChristmas · 10/12/2007 22:14

Well done sparkly!

Callum may be having a growth spurt you know. I think that you're doing really really well and should be totally proud of yourself!

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 10/12/2007 22:15

SGK - giving up is shit. You arent giving up - neither should he.
