see Xmas tips link Yeah, if you're boozing for england but oculd it perhaps be a slight advert for Avent products here rather than fully correct BF advice? i think one or two drinks is usually OK, especially if you have them straight after feeding as we've said many times on this list...

I know MN has gotta have an income from somewhere but adverts disguised as advice aren't helping anyone. or is it just me?

that's a load of bollox...

moondog · 06/12/2007 20:41

It's crap isn't it?
We've complained long and hard to MN.
Don't worry, she will be long gorn after Christmas.

LadySnowsAlot · 06/12/2007 20:43

what else has she been saying then?

moondog · 06/12/2007 20:51

Well she was going to do a Q & A answering 'all oyur baby feeding questions'.

We pointed out that we are already doing this for each other for free.
We don't need someone with a product to sell to do it for us.

Prunie · 06/12/2007 20:54

I thought that advice was factually wrong.
MN, this is pants, but I suspect you aren't that interested.

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 20:55

o fgs. everyone is so afraid of being sued they are refusing to give sensible information.

And yes, slight scepticism about the pump and dump advice. What's wrong with just timing your drinks or waiting until you're sober? That requires no avent equipment at all!

moondog · 06/12/2007 20:56

You don't even need to do that YV.

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 20:58

oh yes, sorry that wasn't worded very well. I feed DS in all states of inebriation and never worry!

I meant if you are determined not to feed after a drink, it's perfectly possible to do so without the aid of avent.

LadySnowsAlot · 06/12/2007 20:59

seriously, it annoys me because there are always new mums on here paranoid that they will damage their lo if they have a drink. they are often in great need of a break and a chance to relax which makes it worse. i saw on another thread that someone had invented 'dipsticks(!)' to dip in ebm to see if there is alcohol in it

BahHunkerBug · 06/12/2007 21:01

There. I think you may have sworn there, so go and wash your mouth out

moondog · 06/12/2007 21:01

lol

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 21:01

I'm sorry but lol lol lol at dipsticks!!

(actually I am sitting here with a glass of red at the moment. Would it be wrong to do competitive breast-milk testing as a party game ?)

FrannyandZooey · 06/12/2007 21:02

You certainly don't need to pump and dump

alcohol leaves breastmilk at the same rate that it does the bloodstream, so by the time you are sober, your milk is too.

Some of us do think it's best to wait after having a drink - it isn't cut and dried - but pumping is pointless and unnecessary.

LadySnowsAlot · 06/12/2007 21:04

their advert should be:

"New Dipsticks made for dipsticks, by dipsticks!"

callmeoverchristmas · 06/12/2007 21:08

Sorry but if your P**ed you should not be looking after a Child anyway! What does she think we are? A few glasses of wine relaxes me and makes me calm down after some very tough days. I BF DD the next Morning no worries. Why? - because I was not Drunk! If I was I wouldn't. Same as I Drive to work knowing I am not over the limit.

Having said that when DD was very tiny and feeding all night I did not drink at all (that was hard ) but mostly because I wanted to make sure I could wake up if she needed me.

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 06/12/2007 21:32

I just posted my own tip saying ignore it! Do MNHQ moderate these tips? I very dare them....

Another classic from Vicki then? Along with the EBM can only be kept for 24 hours in a fridge?

GoodGollyMissMolly · 06/12/2007 21:44

So does that mean I can have a little drink and not worry about DD??

moondog · 06/12/2007 21:45

Good God, yes woman!!!

Crack open the Champers!!

Piffle · 06/12/2007 21:46

my top tip about avent products for breatsfed babies
The tops of the bottles are fecking great for first cups
the rest of it goes to sure start
Pls sell the lids separately to save me a few bob

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 06/12/2007 21:49

Uses for avent when breastfeeding: I find the bottles very useful for measuring small amounts of liquids in cooking, or indeed cocktails. Very difficult to accurately measure 50ml in my big measuring jug. Super easy in a newborn avent bottle

GoodGollyMissMolly · 06/12/2007 21:56

Oooh I've waited so long for a propper glass of wine.

callmeoverchristmas · 06/12/2007 21:58

DD puts the lids of visiting babies bottles on her feet and uses the bottle as a maracca!

Prunie · 06/12/2007 21:59

YV: that is a genuinely useful tip (I love MN).
Sadly I have thrown out all my bottles but I would have kept one of the weenie ones for measuring out cocktail ingredients if I had thought of it.
I think that needs to go on the other thread.
