Text (page 61):

Are you breast-feeding, Katie?

No, it's brilliant I have 20 crates of teats and bottles -- I don't have to sterilise or heat anything, you literally take the teat out of the pack, screw it on, throw it away. I don't care what people say - you don't have to breast-feed. They gave me a tablet that dries your milk up so my boobs haven't hurt or leaked or anything.

Peter: Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine.

So why did you decide not do breast-feed?

I don't want a baby drinking from me - the thought of it makes me feel really funny. I think only a certain person could handle my knockers.

Theclosetpagan · 03/08/2007 21:45

I had a CS with my DS and I formula fed too so I wouldn't ever judge anyone else on how they have their baby or how they choose to feed.

My point really was to wonder if KP had been informed of the possible risks of these tablets when she was prescribed them.

milkmummy1 · 04/08/2007 11:03

am going to complain too. this stilk makes me really cross and am never buying ok again. how utterly irresponsible of them.

Theclosetpagan · 04/08/2007 19:05

Link to the Baby Milk Action Group blog regarding OK magazine.

Difers · 04/08/2007 20:18

Come on Folks, we can't let this go just yet....

I just complained to the editor of OK magazine....I wrote this.........

Dear Editor,

I am disgusted at the blatant advertising for SMA formula milk within Jordan's article. Within this country we have very low breastfeeding rates and articles such as this are not going to help increase those rates. In case you are not aware of harm that formula feeding advertising is doing to generations of mothers and their children I suggest you read this article from The Ecologist Magazine. www.theecologist.org/archive_detail.asp?content_id=586 I have complained to the Advertising Standards Agency. I hope you feel ashamed that you put profits before babies health. Do you realise that babies in this country die from illnesses such as gastroenteritis caused by using formula milk? It is that serious and your vacuous magazine should be more responsible.

Meglet · 04/08/2007 21:52

Have sent a complaint to the ASA. Will do OK too.

Pannacotta · 04/08/2007 22:02

Have also complained to ASA and OK editor.

Theclosetpagan · 04/08/2007 22:09

I complained to ASA, OK mag editor and the Baby Milk Action Group. There is a link below to their blog where they have done a big write up on this.

mamamea what a good post excellent links-thanks

imo it beggars belief that Jordan is considered any kind of newsworthy role model she comes across as vapid, selfish, insecure,so sensitised to her brand that she has lost the plot about her prioritires eg her family and baeutiful newbornm baby

Red hair stunning i love it, no other comment required..

Nightynight · 04/08/2007 23:28

oh come on, surely nobody believes that jordan actually said the things attributed to her in this article?
Surely her supposed comments are the same as the "accidental" label placement in the photo - made up by someone else as a hidden advertisement.

I am disappointed that she has gone along with this. Maybe she is pro feeding choice, and didn't realise how anti-breastfeeding it would sound. That pill to dry up the milk is really bleughh.

I dont see anything wrong with the feeding position btw - presumably she doesnt always feed the baby like that. eye contact is a load of hooey anyway, none of mine were ever interested in eye contact.

BBBee · 04/08/2007 23:35

I really liked her and respected her until I saw this.

What a silly bitch.

Flibbertyjibbet · 04/08/2007 23:37

I will be complaining to the other sites that nice posters have put links to here thanks.

Incidentally, I think the Jordan/SMA thing goes further than just this one issue. By a co-incidence, a friend gave me some old copies of ok to flick through and in two older issues Jordan gives interviews. one about her impending birth, and one just after she gave birth but with no pics of baby.
Issue 579, July 10th, in between about 8 pages of drivel from Jordan we find - page 52, full page add for DMA follow on page 56, full page ad for Mulupa aptimil follow on.

Issue 580 July 17, on page 17, opposite a full page about Jordan, is a full page ad for Milupa aptimil follow on.

Anyone know if Mulipa and SMA are the same company???

So it seems to cynical moi that the relationship between ok/jordan/formula had been going on for some time and was not accidental placement in this weeks spread.

But then I probably have it in for the slapper as I am a gorgeous redhead and my mother loves me all the same

Flibbertyjibbet · 04/08/2007 23:40

Oh and in my area there is a breastfeeding support organisation, my friend works for them so I told her about Mamameas op, she has informed her manager who I am told will be making formal complaints all over the place about this product placement.

moondog · 05/08/2007 17:20

Article about this in Sunday's Independent

Actually, reading the Boycott Nestle post further down it demonstrates how unbelievasbly sinister the whole thing is.

Ad byeline is
'Babe in your arms, love in your heart, carrot in your hair'

and then Jordan is quoted as saying 'I love her, even if she is a ginge'.

wtf????

LIZS · 05/08/2007 17:27

Reported on BBC radio today too !

ScottishMummy · 05/08/2007 17:28

the article is cringeworthy!!dont know what her problen with the red hair is - i adore red hair so celtic

bookwormtailmum · 05/08/2007 17:54

Yikes - I bf my dd for 3 months then had to move her onto ff since my milk dried up through stress - no anti-milk tablet needed for me! but it would have been unthinkable for me not to have even tried to bf a newborn, esp my third child. Isn't sometimes bf easier to establish in subsequent pregnancies?

I'm going to complain to ASA as well .

MammyT · 05/08/2007 19:35

Can't get over this.. It's shocking on so many levels..

ScottishMummy · 05/08/2007 19:46

accumulating a (well deserved) substantial backlash too

on a serious note i do worry about her mental health and her low self esteem issues esp after the PND. i hope she can in time see her child and give unconditional love and reagrd and not fash over inconsequential guff like hair colour. i wold love my bubba if it had green hair, toatl and unconditional love

i genuinely think she is a troubled woman who would benefit from counselling and support, her comments in the article are imo indicative of a deeper psychological malaise

Jordan is just being used by the formula companies.. she is probably too busy and tired to realise the impact that this has..she is no different from mums on here who have made an active choice to feed their babies formula. No let us not shoot the messager, let us shoot the people sending the message.

rainbow83 · 05/08/2007 21:00

it's just so tempting to shoot the messenger in this case , especially when they're making a darn good living out of it.

Lizzer · 05/08/2007 21:01

Pistachio I read it too and was going to post. What an amazing role model ol' Gwen is.

Scottishmummy, I agree Jordan is indeed troubled and needs help.

I've just skimmed this thread and about to read it all now but I bought ok and was horrified too, hope there is a way to complain about the product placement.

divastrop · 05/08/2007 21:23

she is different to the mums on here who have chosen to ff though,as the likes of me don't influence thougsands of girls/women...or even men.

am so about the comments she made about not wanting a baby drinking from her.grrrrr.she would feel funny about a baby drinking from her boobs but she doesnt feel funny about lads/blokes wanking over pictures of them!
