Text (page 61):

Are you breast-feeding, Katie?

No, it's brilliant I have 20 crates of teats and bottles -- I don't have to sterilise or heat anything, you literally take the teat out of the pack, screw it on, throw it away. I don't care what people say - you don't have to breast-feed. They gave me a tablet that dries your milk up so my boobs haven't hurt or leaked or anything.

Peter: Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine.

So why did you decide not do breast-feed?

I don't want a baby drinking from me - the thought of it makes me feel really funny. I think only a certain person could handle my knockers.

btw, I don't know that you can necessarily blame Jordan, she is hardly a rocket scientist and might not know that bottle feeding is inferior to breast feeding and should not be promoted.

It is SMA that know full well that it is illegal to do this, and that they should not and are not allowed to promote formula feeding, and are still doing it.

but she must have accpeted "the crate", solicited or not, and agreed to be photographed with bottle turned so as to clearly display logo. The outfits are clearly carefully selected so why not the props. She is not as naive as that !

wildwoman · 03/08/2007 13:58

you can buy the bottles in a private hospital in london (can't remember the name though)

lissie · 03/08/2007 14:04

im sorry but she is much savvier than any of us are giving her credit for. she will have known full well what was happening

MrsPuddleduck · 03/08/2007 14:06

Let's face it, Jordan's no mug - she's probably going to get another 10 free crates after that stunt!

moondog · 03/08/2007 14:08

Complain as Flibberty suggests below

do agree with feeding being her choice. But did we really expect breastfeeding from some one whose whole 'career' has been about sexualising her breasts?
I have lodged a complaint with the advertising standards agency - www.asa.org.uk it took about 2 minutes so lets all complain about the outrageous product placement and not so subtle placement of the follow on milk with the same logo as on the bottles being fed to her baby.
I am double annoyed at her as I and my older sister are both gingers and have always very much enjoyed being a gorgeous ginger. 'I love her anyway, even though she's a ginger' !!! WTF!!!
What a completely stupid cow she is.

If as many people lodged a formal grievance as posted on this thread we might get somewhere.

Slubberdegullion · 03/08/2007 14:10

Could I just politely point out that the media have (and no doubt) will again in the future referenced threads here on MN (nod goes here to the Shrek thread).

IMO the main issue here is the product placement and associated negative connotations with regards to breast feeding, in a magazine that is primarily bought by young women (in a country with a poor BF record).

At the very least commenting on Jordans career, parenting skills, IQ etc etc muddies the waters. At the worst it makes (some) of us look like very unpleasant women indeed.

If you want to Jordan bash....there is a plethora of other threads/forums out there for you to do so on.

moondog · 03/08/2007 14:12

I agree.
The fact tha it is her is practically irrelevant. What does she actually do anyway? Is she a model or something? I don't watch tv so am not really sure.

Being Jordan is what she does, moondog.

She started out as a "glamour" model though I think.

Seona1973 · 03/08/2007 14:17

the sma might not even have been freebies - i have seen those little bottles on sale in mothercare.

Slubberdegullion · 03/08/2007 14:25

I have complained to the Editor of OK.

c4it · 03/08/2007 14:26

See here for how to complain www.babyfeedinglawgroup.org.uk/monitoring.html#reporting

Meglet · 03/08/2007 15:02

I BF and FF but agree that this article won't help encourage younger women to even try to BF. Suspect that she probably couldn't BF though, not sure what those things in her boobs might do to the milk.

jetgirl · 03/08/2007 15:54

I just read that interview too and was horrified. Normally don't have too low an opinion of Jordan/Katie, she obviously loves being a mum etc, but I can't believe the crap she came out with. And that product placement is outrageous. Perhaps she would have problems bf because of her surgery, though it didn't seem that way from her responses to the questions.
Jordan will influence a lot of young mums with those kind of statements, at a time when various organisations are trying to promote bf.
Must cost a fortune too!

Piggy · 03/08/2007 16:43

Have just filed a complaint. Easy peasy. Bumping this for anyone else....

I tried to register a complaint with ASA but I cant get the complaints page to submit, anyoen else have this problem?
Its outrageous product placement, and I think both SMA and OK should be brought to task.
Not impressed with OK (not that I buy it) but this should not be allowed
Not sending out a good pro breastfeeding message out to young girls.

tissy · 03/08/2007 18:50

Fio- I dunno, maybe it was handmade by a relative, or something, but those ribbons would easily go round that baby's neck a couple of times!

mush4brains · 03/08/2007 19:14

no, i got the complaint to go across on the asa website fine.
Am also just about to email OK, SMA & see if Jordan has got a website herself

LaBoheme · 03/08/2007 19:24

Wrong on so many levels - I am 100% pro choice on BFeeding, but her comments are callas (sp) and ignorant - not warming the milk, why not FFS she's a tiny newborn, are you that fucking lazy? and can you not even be bothered to wash and sterilise your bottles? great attitude to the environment. Feeding a newborn on your knees during a noisy photosession. This has made me so angry - this article represents everything I hate about the way Motherhood is represented in these glossy comics for grown-ups.

I need a glass of wine this has made me so

jofeb04 · 03/08/2007 19:53

Omg at the photos.

I am obviously pro-choice (I ff both my dc), but the advertising is so blatant.

Have complained, and going to get in touch with the consumer council.

Theclosetpagan · 03/08/2007 20:04

Pro-choice or not (and I am pro-choice as was a bottlefeeder myself) - Jordan/Katie - whatever other name she gives herself has been PAID to advertise this milk. Otherwise the logo would not have been displayed so prominantly.

SMA have no doubt given her crates and crates of the stuff along with the teats.

I am all for choice as long as breastfeeding isn't undermined - that's what advertising does and SMA know full well what they are doing.

BTW - the tablet "that dries your milk up" has some interesting side effects - wonder if anyone told her that.

pinkspottywellies · 03/08/2007 20:05

Nobody's picked up on Peter's comment that "Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine." Junior's about 2 or 3 - who know's if it may have any effect on his future health.
