Text (page 61):

Are you breast-feeding, Katie?

No, it's brilliant I have 20 crates of teats and bottles -- I don't have to sterilise or heat anything, you literally take the teat out of the pack, screw it on, throw it away. I don't care what people say - you don't have to breast-feed. They gave me a tablet that dries your milk up so my boobs haven't hurt or leaked or anything.

Peter: Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine.

So why did you decide not do breast-feed?

I don't want a baby drinking from me - the thought of it makes me feel really funny. I think only a certain person could handle my knockers.

Pagan - what are the side effects?

Theclosetpagan · 03/08/2007 20:10

Wonderful side effects which include an increased risk of strokes and certain types of cancer. Just wonder if any of the higly paid private doctors Jordan saw discussed these risks with her.

Maternaltouch · 03/08/2007 20:11

If you can, please also as well as complaining to OK etc follow the links from this website to put pressure on the government to stop this kind of advertising. The NCT, Save the Children and UNICEF are asking the government to stop formula milk promotion in the UK.
Parents need reliable information based on evidence, not commercial pressure from baby milk companies.

There is a real prospect of change in the law if enough people get emailing.

Complaint sent to ASA .

MummyHeather · 03/08/2007 20:20

Haven't seen the article - will need to have a look. I think on the whole the media's attitude to BF is terrible. There are no role models for Mums. Every time you see a storyline in a soap with a baby it has a bottle in it's mouth. I'm not a militant pro-BF and think it is a woman's choice. I chose to BF - it's hard, the most physically and emotionally demanding thing I've ever done and I think and support from other people is hugely important. Wish the media and wider community could understand that.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/08/2007 20:31

There are two ways you could look at Jordan's 'decision' here.

Either she was daft enough to accept any amount of money for doing anything.

Or she contacted formula companies in advance and asked......

I'm a bit peeved at the c/section question myself, but that is a whole different issue.

I'll be complaining to the ASA and Trading Standards in due course nonetheless.

FillydoraTonks · 03/08/2007 20:38

" i love her anyway, even if she is a ginge. people that are mean about red hair is the same as racist"

um, no, not really. not unless there is a hidden history of ginger slavery and institutionalised discrimination that has gone unnoticed.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/08/2007 20:39

It's Saxonist.

lionheart · 03/08/2007 20:52

I thought it would be Celtist, someohow.

Thread here filly.

ValnBen · 03/08/2007 20:57

I don?t really care about whether Katy or anyone else ?chooses? to BF or FF my self but the statement:

?They gave me a tablet that dries your milk up so my boobs haven't hurt or leaked or anything.?

really cuts ? what about us poor women who give birth to still born babies and sent home with the advise to wear a tight fitting bra 24/7 for a week, do NOT touch your breasts in any way shape or form in the meantime; oh, and take paracetamol if they hurt!!??
No nice tab to take it all away for the plebs then??

binklehasflipped · 03/08/2007 20:59

havent read the article but I think she has every right to ff and to talk about that decision.

that said, I think its terrible if its just blatant product placement, thats a differnt matter entirely.

Theclosetpagan · 03/08/2007 21:00

The tablets can have hideous side effects - give you an increased risk of breast cancer and strokes. They are not advised for suppressing breastmilk anymore and haven't been for about the past 15 years. You were better off without them VB

Katy44 · 03/08/2007 21:01

ValnBen, so sorry
Did you read the post below about the side effects of these tablets though?

Katy44 · 03/08/2007 21:01

x post
theclosetpagan, i might be being v naive but how did she get hold of them then?

Theclosetpagan · 03/08/2007 21:05

Some doctors will still prescribe them - usually they are not well informed about the risks - or that they're no longer advisable. That's what makes me wonder if KP was told the risks before they were given.
I used to be a midwife - and even back in 1991 they were not being prescribed - some older doctors will still give them but usually because they are uninformed about the risks - or do know them but decide they're not important.

Katy44 · 03/08/2007 21:06

that's a bit worrying!!

ValnBen · 03/08/2007 21:10

Theclosetpagan and Katy44 - no I wasn?t aware of any side effects of the ?milk tab? wasn?t even aware until now that there was such a thing ? maybe spending a week with copiously leaking breasts and no baby to take it was the better of the two evils after all (in hindsight) ? just made my blood boil at the time of reading that?s all ? will climb back under the rock I came from on this subject now. Thanks.

Katy44 · 03/08/2007 21:15

I didn't mean to have a go - can completely see why you're pissed off at her attitude, just wanted to point out she's completely misinformed and imo stupid.
Hope I haven't offended you

ValnBen · 03/08/2007 21:17

Ho Katy ? not at all ? sorry if my response came across curt?.
Still a touch angry at the whole "katy boob" thing - not at anyones responses - honest.

Katy44 · 03/08/2007 21:18

don't blame you
Keep glancing at this and think for a sec people are talking about me!

ValnBen · 03/08/2007 21:20

Sorry ? left off the 44 bit ? will try not to do that again

dyzzidi · 03/08/2007 21:20

Just a quick note really. I FF my dd and used the little glass bottles although not SMA (whilst in hospital).

They did not heat them in the hospitals and recommended giving all feeds at room temperature.

I did warm every feed at home but that was because I wanted to

Katy44 · 03/08/2007 21:21

it's this whole thread
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not talking about you...somewhere ...

ValnBen · 03/08/2007 21:31

Guess I still feel a tad guilty about the whole thing cos with baby #2 who was born at 34 wks - (?elective? CS ? erm, I didn?t ask for him to be born that way ? the people in charge did!!) - was called from SCBU whilst in recovery about 20 mins after delivery to be informed that my baby was hungry and could they feed him? Eh? Of course you can!! Well, we need you to say what we can feed him with? Eh?.... well, we have blah, blah , blah and blah?.you have to chose!!...... The only one I could remember was S bloody MA!!! Took almost 4 day?s for MY milk to come in this time!!!
